Joseph helped us with the installation of two through the wall air conditioning/heating units. He was very professional, knowledgeable, reliable and punctual. The job resulted in some unexpected challenges but he was pleasant throughout the process and did not even try to charge more. Honest, sincere people are hard to come by and I really appreciate all the help Joseph has provided us. We will absolutely continue to use his services and recommend him without hesitation!

Central air conditioner on the roof was not working. They showed up the same day as promised. Fixed the problem and the price was reasonable, particularly when considering how HVAC contractors can be huge rip-offs

After going through three other HVAC companies over the course of many weeks, Alex was the only one who was quickly able to diagnose the problem, order the right parts, and finally resolve my heating and air conditioning issues. Will definitely hire again. Thanks so much Alex!

I had my air conditioning and heating unit serviced by crown cooling. They did an excellent job servicing the air conditioning. They clean both my indoor and outdoor coils change my filters and check refrigerant levels. Giving me full diagnostics of the system they also cleaned a oil boiler that I have at my house my boiler makes my domestic hot water we talked about getting the boiler to run more efficient with added controls to lower the boiler water temperature During warmer weather.

“All in One Air Comfort Solutions” deserves more than 5 stars!!! I was calling different HVAC companies to get an estimate for installing air conditioning in my home, with-out any luck; I asked a co-worker if he knew anyone in this line of business, and he highly recommended Wil at “All in One Air Comfort Solutions”; they were wonderful, warm, friendly and very personable. Not to mention that their price was beyond reasonable. They arranged to have the air conditioning installed with-in a few days; they not only took care of business in a timely manner but very importantly with very little disruption to my home and family. By the end of 2-days, I had air conditioning in my home and we couldn’t be happier. I would definitely-recommend “All in One Air Comfort Solutions” to any of my friends, family and to anyone who is looking for a reliable company to install or repair their HVAC. All in One Air Comfort Solutions/Wil was absolutely-wonderful!!! If you need HVAC installed or repaired - give them a call, you will be glad you did :-)

We hired Doug and his crew to set up central air on the ground floor of our house (we already had existing ducts for our heating system) and mini split ductless AC units in the bedrooms on the second floor. From start to finish Doug was punctual, clear, answered any questions I had (very responsive over the phone for last minute questions), and at the start and end of each phase of the project he always met with us to go over what would be done and to check in to make sure we were satisfied with the work after it was done or answer questions. The work was completed quickly. Unlike other contractors, there was no lull in the work. His crew worked diligently to get the work done in a timely fashion. Now that the weather has been warm enough to use the AC, we couldn't be happier. The central air cools the house quickly amd queitly amd the ductless mini splits he installed by LG are attractvie and do an excellent job cooling our large bedrooms. Whats more, we always get compliments on how nice they look. I highly recommend this company.

They came installed a new central air-conditioning system in our home recently. The installers were professional, super neat, & the system works great! Sam came out today to do a complimentary check on the new system. He was here around two hours!!! Again, professional, neat, thorough, and answered all of our questions. Couldn't ask for more. Highly recommend Them and the people that work for them (and that includes the people in the office). First class company!!

My air conditioning unit went out during the hottest week of the year so far around July 1st ..it was brutal! A friend recomended this company and I’m so glad that we called! Me being a woman and not knowing much about AC I was afraid of getting taken advantage of. All my fears went away while dealing with Greg. I could tell that he knew what he was doing and stood by me every step of the way. Honest, trustworthy, loyal and thorough! I truly can’t say enough about my experience with Greg at around the clock air conditioning and I would 100% recommend him to anyone needing service as I already have! We are up and running again and nice and cool after a few days of his hard work. A brand new ac unit with Crisp cool air! Thanks again Greg, we appreciate all of your hard work and dedication to getting us comfortable again- it’s nice to know that there are nice people out there that you can trust! Much thanks, Elsie Niederauer and girls

Amazing response time, constant prompt communication by text message, very professional team, worked on the weekend. In today's market its difficult to find articulate and hard working service providers, but Jim and his team really pulled through for us. They fixed a residential home air conditioning issues with 3 zones, installed a new board and 2 new thermostats in less than an hour. They were friendly and respectful to my wife and newborn. They provided a copy of the invoice upon completion of work, and we couldn't have asked to anything better from them. We highly recommend them, and trust their work stemming from over 30+ years of work.

Although I can't rate work quality (since I have no idea of what would be good work quality in air conditioner maintenance), the technician appeared to know his job.

We installed a heating, cooling system and had insulation installed in the attic. It was an extensive project, and Building Sciences LLC. they kept us informed every step of the way. We got a 10-year 0% interest loan, which was more then other contractors were offering (24 months only). We also got $5,000 worth of weatherizarion and insulation paid for by the NJ Clean Energy program. Building Sciences is a participating contractor. Others were not. The install crews were clean and professional and cleaned up after themselves. So we are really pleased we did it this way. It was more effort, but so worth it. We highly recommend Building Sciences!!!!

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What is an HVAC system?

The letters in HVAC stand for heating, ventilation and air conditioning. An HVAC system enables you to regulate your home or building’s internal temperature (thermal control) for comfortable living and working. You can bring heat levels down in the summer and up in the winter, keeping your home or office livable year-round. HVAC systems can also help with humidity levels and regulate indoor air quality in a home or office. There are many types of HVAC systems and technologies available.

Many homes have a forced-air HVAC system. Both the heating and the central air conditioning units share a ductwork system where they either push in or pull out warm or cooled air. There are also heating and cooling systems that don’t require ductwork — such as ductless mini-splits — but work on the same principles of heat exchange. The national average to hire an HVAC specialist is $2,920-$3,670, with costs varying depending on the work you need done and the equipment you are installing.

How many years does HVAC last?

The number of years an HVAC system lasts depend on the type and brand of components that make up your system. The lifespan of an air conditioner averages between 15 and 20 years. The life expectancy of a tankless water heater is approximately 20 years, while a storage water heater is closer to 10-15 years. Ducts may need replacing within 10-15 years. Your equipment will have a longer life if you have regular tuneups and maintenance to keep everything in good working order. If you’re having repair problems and your HVAC system is over 10 years old, it’s a good time to consider the costs and benefits of repairing vs. replacing. Energystar.gov provides the following tips to help you decide whether to repair or replace:

  • Your HVAC system needs frequent repairs and your energy bills are increasing.
  • Your cooling or heating equipment is less efficient.
  • Rooms in your home are too hot or too cold.
  • Your heat pump or air conditioner is more than 10 years old.
    • Replacing your system with an Energy Star-certified unit could save up to 20 percent on your heating and cooling bills.
  • Your furnace or boiler is more than 15 years old.
    • You may choose to replace your system with an Energy Star-certified furnace (which is 15 percent more efficient than a conventional furnace) or an Energy Star-certified boiler (which is 5 percent more efficient).
  • Your home has humidity problems.
  • Your home has excessive dust.
    • Leaky ducts can pull particles and air from attics, crawl spaces and basements and distribute them throughout your house. Sealing your ducts may be a solution.
  • Your heating or cooling system is noisy.
    • You could have an undersized duct system or a problem with the indoor coil of your cooling equipment.
  • Your score on the Home Energy Yardstick is below five.
    • That means your home energy use is above average and you're probably paying too much for your utilities.

How much does it cost to get central air?

Prices for central-air HVAC systems will vary. The national average to hire an HVAC specialist is $2,920-$3,670 but can run as high as $5,000 or even $12,000 depending on the capacity you need and other factors. Installing central air conditioning requires an entire system that works together to draw hot air out of your home. The system includes an outdoor unit, which houses the condenser and compressor, and the evaporator coils. If you don’t have an existing duct system, ductwork will need to be installed, which will affect labor and material costs. Leaking or damaged ducts will also need to be replaced.

How much does it cost for a new air conditioning unit?

If you’re ready for a new air conditioning unit, it’s time to start exploring HVAC prices. The price will vary depending on the type of air conditioner you buy and its cooling capacity. Window units, which require minimal installation, are one of the most affordable options on the market. If you’re purchasing from a big-box store, you can expect to pay approximately $120-$1,000 for a window unit. Window units are appealing for their quick setup and relatively low cost, but they can use more energy over time than central air and only cool the room in which they’re installed. Portable air conditioners don’t have the cooling power of a window unit, but they do have the perk of being transportable from room to room. Expect to pay between $225 and $800 for a portable air conditioner, on average. For a whole-house air conditioning system with coils, condenser and line (not including installation or ductwork), the cost from a big-box store can range from approximately $2,000 to $4,000 or more. If you don’t have (and don’t want to put in) ducts, a ductless mini-split air conditioner is a good option, although pricey up front. Pricing can range from $650 to $4,250 per unit on average; you’ll need one unit for each room in which you want temperature control.
