Jason and his son did a great job re-grouting the tile in my bathroom and installing ceiling fans in two rooms. Communication and scheduling was easy. He was knowledgeable and his pricing was within my budget. I'd recommend him to anyone! Thank you!!

I needed a window AC installed with a bracket and Varian was quick, on time, and did a great job, even adding some insulation to the install.

Joseph is super responsive with an emphasis put on customer service. He helped me with a dishwasher repair job that other installers refused to do. I was very satisfied with his work, communication, and availability. He is now my go to for anything having to do with my apartment!

After a recent poor experience with a contractor on this site, we were a little gun shy! But James and his crews are definite pros. We had them install 2 vinyl tile and 1 ceramic tile floors. It was completed in the time he gave us. They were clean and courteous. And the work was done to our satisfaction. Will definitely hire him again

Gama is very professional and great to work with. What I really was impressed with is that he seems to be able to handle all types of home projects. We started out by doing some painting and then I discussed I wanted to do some tile work and he handled it like he has been doing it for years.............I just hired him to also install a complete kitchen (cabinets, flooring, plumbing etc.) I know I am in good hands..

My husband and I bought a new house and needed a bit of work done. We originally requested quotes for interior and exterior painting and met with a handful of people. We really liked Tom. He seemed personable, knowledgeable and was very open to everything we asked for. We decided we wanted to hire him for painting but realized he did much more and we ended up hiring him to paint almost every room and shutters, skim coat bumpy, old plaster ceilings, wallpaper and replace sink etc in bathroom, refinish and stain all of the floors, put CoreTech in, install a bookshelf, re-do our stair case with metal balusters and re-do our fireplace. Tom was a pleasure to work with and did great work. He answered all of our MANY questions and helped us through the process. The house looks amazing and we get a lot of compliments. Tom did everything we asked him and always made himself available if we asked. We were told by others that our ceilings could never be flat but Tom and his crew made them flat as can be and they look new. We would highly recommend him. He and his team bent over backwards to make us happy.

New flooring was installed throughout our work office. The process in general went fairly smoothly. The timeline was extended a bit, but because working hours are limited in a doorman building that could have been expected. All in all a great job!

Complete bathroom renovation. Demolition, removal, new walls, all new fixtures and tub plumbing, custom built-in cabinetry, and porcelain tile floors. Glenn and partner measured meticulously and finished everything when they said they would without damaging stair and hallway. Couldn't have asked for more for this cramped upstairs renovation in our older home.

We had chosen Marco based on his excellent reviews, but unfortunately we didn't have the same experience as most people. We hired Marco to replace flooring tile in our kitchen, foyer, powder room and laundry room. With the exception of one day where he had to cancel, he did arrive between 8am and 8:30am with a partner and they got to work right away. They were quiet and respectful, but the language barrier was an issue at times. Prior to starting the job, we had mentioned to Marco that although we weren't concerned about the walls since they were being painted, we did request that he be careful around the doors and wood trim which had been painted recently. After he was done, we saw mastic and grout on not just the doors and trim, but also the base of our kitchen cabinets. He wiped off a lot of it, but I continue to find it as I'm cleaning. I do wish he had been neater perhaps taping up a plastic or paper to protect the base of the doors and cabinets. We had also pointed out many areas where there was hazing on the tiles left from the grout not being cleaned off immediately. He tried to remove some of the haze on his last day, but it had been too late to wipe it off without using a haze remover. I wasn't planning on writing a review since his price was reasonable and the items I've mentioned can be cleaned up. However, a few weeks into the job and the grout is now coming out of the joints in pieces. I've attached photos of where I was using a lightweight stick vacuum to clean the kitchen floor and the grout just got sucked right up. When I went to investigate, the grout just crumbles into powder when you pick it up. I'm not a tile expert, but it seems like perhaps the grout that he used in this area was too dry? I'm pretty frustrated at this point because I keep finding little areas here and there where the grout has just disintegrated. I know there were areas where they had not fully scraped out the mastic between the joints and just laid grout on top (which I know isn't proper), so they went back and scraped out some of these areas and regrouted, but even then, this should not be happening. It's been exactly 3 weeks since he finished the job and the grout should not be coming up like this so easily; it's like powder. The cracked grout is throughout the floor. I can't even say it's concentrated to one area, so I don't know what happened, but it's very disappointing.

I had a great experience with Corniel Construction. Waldy and his team remodeled my bathroom. New floor tile, new shower tile, new shower faucet, new toilet and new vanity. They did a great job having this done for me and their price was very reasonable. I was impressed with the communication of Waldy. He was very responsive, answered any questions I had and made sure I was informed throughout the job. They were clean and made sure the job was done right. I liked what they did so much I asked them to come back and replace my other toilet. Overall great experience and would use them agian.

What a fantastic Contractor! We had 5 contractors come to look at our basement as it needed a new staircase, walls, ceiling, flooring and new electric. Out of the 5 George was the only one who a) turned up on time to quote and b) submitted his estimate when he said he was going to. That not only gave us a good indication of his reliability but also the estimate was really fair compared to some of the others The basement looks absolutely fantastic and we are so so pleased with the job that he has done for us. He was reliable, tidy, polite and also gave us some really good ideas for some areas we weren't sure what to do with. You won't go wrong hiring George I promise and look forward to having him back to do our attic as soon as we can afford it :-)

Tom took on an unusual project for us. He used his extensive art background and talent to custom paint and install new outlets and switchplates covers to perfectly match our marble tile kitchen backsplash. The work looks gorgeous, and Tom is a delightful man to deal with. His business includes tile work, masonry, and carpentry. We intend to have him back to take on additional projects in our home.

Klarens was responsive and pleasant when booking the job. But his partner arrived instead of him to caulk the bathtub and kitchen. He did a sloppy job on the bathtub, leaving cracks and getting caulk on the tile (see photo). He put a huge amount of caulk around the counter in the kitchen. It looked so bad I asked him to remove it. I then exchanged messages with Klarens to have him come fix it, after I’d already paid. He scheduled a time, texted he was late, asked for alternate days, both of which I was available for, and then never followed thru to finish the job. So I am out the cost of the job and have crap around the bathtub and nothing in the kitchen. Disappointed does not express how let down I feel by KI Renovations. Other reviews were good but I recommend you Avoid.

Amazing experience using H&F. Facundo responded to my quote right away to do our backsplash and tile floor in kitchen. Great pricing, especially for the high quality work! He gave some great reccomendations on what products to use, he made himself available the next day and was right on time 7:30 AM. He worked diligently throughout the entire day, you can tell he was very meticulous and showed pride in his work. Cam back the net morning to finish-up. He was very clean and made sure to cover our table, etc with plastic and vacuumed to make sure dust did not speak. Overall couldn't be happier with the service!

Daniel was punctual, very pleasant to work with, neat and meticulous in his work. He did 3 small jobs for me - tiling underneath the kitchen sink, cutting and installing a new shelf in the kitchen and some repairs in one bathroom. I only wish I had more work to give him. His prices are very reasonable. Highly recommend him.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How much does it cost to get tiling done?

You can install tiling on your floors, walls, counters, kitchen backsplash, outdoor patio and shower — to name a few places. Tile is beautiful, easy to clean, durable, and resilient against kids and pets. The national average for tile installation cost ranges between $490 and $750. Often, tile installation specialists quote a price per square foot for installation. Costs can increase if you want the pro to supply the tile instead of ordering it yourself. Other factors that can increase cost include specialized installation with a unique design that will require more labor to install.

Prep work will also affect tile installation costs. Demolition of the existing floor, counter or backsplash takes time and energy that will be reflected in the price. Necessary repairs, such as a sub-floor that needs bolstering before tile flooring can be installed, will also increase costs. For tile showers, one example of tile installation cost may be approximately $25 per square foot including all materials and labor. Average tile installation costs for backsplashes may run anywhere from $10 to $40, depending on the materials selected and the amount of labor required. The larger the area where tile is being installed, the lower the price per square foot will likely be. For example, a flooring pro may charge approximately $3.50 per square foot for wood-look tile installation in an area ranging between 6 feet by 24 feet and 8 feet by 48 feet.

How much does it cost to tile a shower?

The cost of tiling a shower depends on two main factors: the size of the shower and the quality of the tiles. In general, most professional tilers charge an average of $25 per square foot of tiled area and the national average cost for a tile installation project is $490-$750. The tiles themselves are the greatest variable; the cost depends on their size, shape, pattern and manufacturer. For example, tile purchased at a volume discount from a big-box store cost far less than tiles made in small batches by an artisan ceramics shop. Prices can range from as little as $1 to $50 or more per square foot of tile. Other factors that will drive up the total tile installation cost are grout and mortar, speciality tiles like bullnose caps or soap holders, and surface prep materials, especially if drywall needs to be replaced before the tile can be installed. Many tile installers will also remove and haul away any old materials from an existing shower installation.

How much does it cost to tile a bathroom?

Tile installation costs are a key part of your bathroom remodel costs. The tile you select (which can range from under $2 per square foot to $50 per square foot or more), the demolition and repair work required prior to installation, and the size of the job will all affect cost. You can install tile in the shower, on the counters, on the wall or on the floor. The national average for tile installation cost ranges between $490 and $750. Bathroom tile is easy to clean and durable for daily life. Here are some examples of average bathroom tile installation costs:

  • Tile installation at $25 per square foot of tiled bathroom area.
    • A standard tub and shower combo requires tiles for approximately 60 inches of length. Calculate wall height and add 30 to 36 inches of tub width for the walls at the head and foot of the tub. If the tile walls are 6 feet to 8 feet high, in this example, the tile installation costs would run about $2,000. Price includes materials.
  • Tile installation on a 3-foot by 5-foot regular tub and shower walls with an 8-foot ceiling: $1,450. Price includes materials.
  • Tile installation on a 3-foot by 5-foot regular tub and shower walls with a 10-foot ceiling: $1,650. Price includes materials.

How much does it cost to install a ceramic tile floor?

Tile installation costs for ceramic floors depend on the type of tile you select. You can purchase tile that sells for under $2 per square foot or tile that costs $50 per square foot — or more for artisanal and hand-painted tiles. The cost of labor to install a tile floor will also depend on the tile you select. It is far less labor-intensive to install a white 12-inch by 12-inch square tile than a 2-inch by 2-inch hexagonal tile with a distinct pattern. That extra time and energy equates to a higher per-square-foot installation cost. For example, a flooring pro may charge approximately $3.50 per square foot for labor to install wood-look tile in an area ranging between 6 feet by 24 feet and 8 feet by 48 feet. That same pro may charge $6 or more per square foot for a more intricate pattern, or a smaller space. Some installers may charge a minimum day rate for ceramic tile floor installation, such as $340 minimum per day, to cover business expenses and employee wages. If you’re looking to reduce costs, removing your existing flooring and handling any repairs needed can help eliminate prep work costs. Prep work may be charged per hour and could cost anywhere from $25 to $80 per hour or more, depending on the region and the type of repair work necessary.

How much does it cost to install tiles in a kitchen?

One of the most common kitchen upgrades is installing decorative backsplash tiles in the space between the counters and cabinets. It’s a chance for homeowners to get creative while also protecting the kitchen walls from splashes and stains. Like all tiling projects, kitchen tile project costs depend on the tiles you choose, installation materials such as grout and mortar, and any surface materials, like replacement backer board. The national average for a tiled kitchen backsplash is $490-$750. In general, pricing averages $10-$40 per square foot for installation, not including tile. Some professional tile installers have a minimum day rate for small projects, which averages $350.
