West End helped film a music video for me. They were extremely helpful in all ends of production. Very knowledgeable and easy to work with. Not to mention I got a very generous price for hours of green screen work. I have no complaints, and I plan to work with them again.

It was great working with Alex. As a photo journalist he doesnt just take picture like everyone else, he captures the moments. And best of all, he competes with himself. He is challenging himself to take better picture than the last and he wont move on untill he does it. We were very happy with our pictures and recommend Alex to everyone.

Ray could not have made the entire process of creating a promo video for our company any better. We had an urgent need due to an important meeting and he was able to write a script, film, obtain an actress, edit, etc. in less than a week. He really a great person to work with and he will make any accommodation to make the experience great. I highly recommend Lorray Digital Media Group.!!!

Bin Song created a beautiful video story of my son's wedding. She weaved images and music and family tributes together into a beautiful film of this most important day in our lives. Her sensitivity to her subject exceeded our hopes and expectations. Watching the video is like reliving the event with its moments of humor and poignancy. She is a true professional. We are truly grateful to have found her.

Luc did on set photography, behind the scenes videography and the official poster photography of my film. He captured incredibly beautiful moments. Luc definitely has a visually striking identity in his work as photographer. He has high sensibility when it comes to capturing facial expressions. Each and every frame had a unique composition. I highly recommend working with Luc for his distinctive artistic sensibilities and remarkable professional attitude.

I'm in San Diego and needed a doctor's interview filmed in the NYC area, and for the videographer to also direct and handle (on his own), the interview with 9 or so questions provided. I choose Mayer because he is professional, thorough, and most important, an experienced videographer - all important when filming a professional like a doctor. Mayer's footage was exactly what I needed to edit with, and he was patient and helpful when filming the doctor. In fact, I've just hired him again, to film another Doctor's interview in the NYC area!

Andrew conducted himself on a whole other level of professionalism. Not only did he edit our entire music video in about two days time, he also brought a great level of detail to his editing process - pointing out nuance frames that most editors wouldn't take the time to notice - on a severely tight timeline. I'd recommend Andrew for really any video job. Where he strived with us is in how we had a broad idea, needed help connecting the dots, and somehow painted the picture of what was in our heads. Thanks, Andrew!

Cristian did a wonderful job capturing our special day and gave us such an amazing price for the service he provided. His pricing is amazing and his quickness with response is awesome! He works with you and does his absolute best to satisfy your needs. I would highly recommend his services. Don't pay those outrageous prices for video/photo services. Trust me, you can easily get ripped off if you're not careful. Get in touch with CineMarvel Films. They will NOT disappoint.

David was recommended to us by our wedding photographer to film and create our wedding highlight reel and needless to say, he was nothing short of amazing. Very laid back and easing going, he was very easy to work with. It felt natural having him there; almost as if he blended into the background despite all his video gear. In the beginning, we were skeptical about wedding videographers, but after seeing our highlight reel, we absolutely had no regrets hiring one and was very happy with the finished product. We recommend David for all your videography needs!

I had the great pleasure of hiring Andy for an event in August 2015. Our start-up was hosting a panel and roundtable lunch with about 80 attendees in Manhattan. At the last minute (just a few days prior to the event), our CEO requested we professionally film the entire panel discussion to reuse in future marketing. I found Andy via Thumbtack, and he was quick to respond and give me the entire rundown of what he could do for us. He was also kind enough to work with us on budget--filming only the essentials and doing very light editing. On the day of the event, Andy arrived promptly with all his equipment at the venue, got set-up, and started rolling without any trouble. We saw the rough cut in just a matter of days--and he was fast in getting us the edited materials, as well. The video itself was of terrific quality and captured exactly what we hoped for (Andy has done plenty of panel and professional events previously, so he knew exactly what to capture and frame). I look forward to working with Andy again (in fact, we're already setting-up our next event with him as the videographer). I can't forget to mention he's a nice guy--which made the entire experience of working with him even better!

I don't know where to start. Everything was GREAT. He took my project on extremely short notice. I contacted him about creating a highlight reel for my son's football season. He walked me through every step as far as his equipment, quality of film etc and explained everything in GREAT detail... This guy really knows his craft. MJRvisuals is a top notch company, and my family and I have decided to contract them for my sons next 4 football games. The most rewarding part, was when my son saw the DRAFT of what Malcholm had created. Signed...one very satisfied, proud DAD. THANKS MJRvisuals!!!!!!! See you Saturday!!!!!!! DonB

Beautiful work, 5 stars, and when I say beautiful work I mean not only the video itself (which was wayyyy beyond my expectations of a wedding cinematographer), but also the experience of shooting it, which was very mild, pleasant, and flow-y. Rom made us feel so natural and comfortable, nothing too posed or stiff, and was able to catch some gorgeous footage. In love with this video!!

Joel is an excellent all round resource - shooting, editing and general post-production. I've got 20 years of high end film post-production experience and Joel stands out as a one-man go-to that stands up to the high end houses. I've seen his work with colleagues before I booked him - but was totally blown away by his commitment, good humour and dedication to making sure I was totally happy. I can say hand on heart I never for a second thought I'd get something of this quality so quickly and so painlessly. His work is well above many people charging 4 times the price. Book him now before everyone realises what a gem he is and his rates go up.

Brandon is an amazing camera man, there isn’t a single doubt about that. The minute he started recording it was like we were completely in sync. He knew exactly what I wanted, and was able to come up with ideas and solutions to bring forth my vision in the best possible way! It was easy to tell he had years of expertise at his fingertips, and in comparison I probably looked like I had none; but he still treated me with respect and made it clear that I was always the one in charge which I really appreciated. Brandon went above and beyond expectation during filming and I couldn’t thank him enough for such a wonderful experience! I truly believe there was not a single other person I’d rather have behind the camera. It was during the video editing however, that I ran into a few issues. Trying to get him to talk to me about anything felt a bit like pulling teeth; but perhaps that’s just because I’m the chatty type and he’s more of a man of few words. (Which I can understand!) Regardless it was extremely difficult to get him to respond with any type of communication, which resulted in many set backs, delays, and nights of frustration. I often felt completely ignored and brushed off for “more important” clients seeing as how despite working with him first, he finished many other projects before getting back to me on mine. It also made me feel very hesitant to give my opinion on any changes I felt needed to take place, in fear of coming off as a nuisance. That being said, the end results made all the earlier trouble worth it! I can fully admit I wasn’t the easiest client to please, (pretty much a complete perfectionist!) but Brandon made sure to keep going until I was completely happy with the finished product. The journey may have been rocky, but in the end he did hold true to his word and made sure to deliver absolute perfection! He did an extraordinary job and I couldn't be more thrilled on how it all turned out. I highly recommend him to anyone looking for a camera man, as his skill are unparalleled! And you will definitely be left with something you can be proud of and watch again and again for years to come. :)

Solo's work is on a completely different level compared to most wedding videographers out there. I'm an amateur videographer, so when I started to look for videographers - I had to find someone who could do a better job than I could ever do myself. Video is a number one priority for me, so when I saw Solo's videos - I knew I could trust him 100% and that I didn't have to do anything but to book him for our wedding. Solo is a true professional - I still can't believe the level of the quality of work he's done for us considering how hectic our wedding was. He made the most out of what he could work with and created a masterpiece that truly reflects our personalities and the atmosphere of the wedding. It was an honor to have him film our wedding, because he didn't just make a video, he created a work of art that my wife and I are honored to be featured in and will cherish forever.

Joseph Remmert is a hard-working and talented professional, who offers a great service at a competitive price. From start to finish, he was extremely responsive and flexible, which iwas needed as a small business owner with unpredictable availability. Despite being a small company, Joseph treated us as though we were a much larger client, devoting himself entirely to our project and continuously making sure that we were satisfied with the process, as well as adjusting easily to our last minute changes and issues. His attention to detail and skill as both a photographer and editor allowed us to rebuild and streamline our entire online image, shooting clean, polished promotional videos and capture professional photos of our workshop and employees, helping create a better company image for customers to identify. For any small businesses looking to hire a professional for video work and photo work, I would recommend reaching out to Joseph Remmert.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What is a videographer and what do they do?

A videographer professionally films weddings and other events and edits the footage to create film keepsakes or marketing materials for their clients. Wedding videographers record all the key elements of your wedding day, ceremony and reception, and then edit the hours of film during post-production to make a wedding video, social media highlight reels, and any other film features you choose. Wedding videography captures, in live action, your vows, the cake-cutting, the first dance, reception toasts, the decor, the guests and all the details of your day. Many wedding videographers also interview guests (based on an interview list provided by the couple) and incorporate the recorded responses into the wedding video. Event videography typically costs less than wedding videography, as events are shorter with less detail. The national average cost for event videography is $500-$760, while the national average cost for wedding videography is $990-$1,260. A videographer usually does not need to be licensed, but it is important to confirm they have insurance and good standing in the business community, as well as good client reviews. A great majority of the work happens during post-production. The pros watch and blend together the hours of footage they took (sometimes from multiple cameras) to capture the story of your wedding day or event.

How do you choose a wedding videographer?

A wedding videographer will create a lifetime memory for you from edited video footage of your wedding day, ceremony and reception. Choosing a wedding videographer starts with looking online at portfolios of their past work. There’s no need to talk to anyone unless you love what you see. Next, make sure they have good reviews and past client experience; don’t be shy about asking for references if there aren’t any posted online. When you find someone who has a style you love, ask if they are available on your wedding day. If so, it’s time to talk pricing. Be clear about your maximum budget, and ask what kind of packages they offer. Pricing will depend on the number of crew needed for filming, the hours they are required to be onsite, post-production editing, and the length of the final product. Talk with several wedding videographers to get a feel for what prices are like in your region. Nationally, the average cost for wedding videography ranges between $990 and $1,260 per event. Once you agree on a product and have a plan, get everything in a written and signed contract. Clearly state the details of what is expected for your wedding day and from the final product. Be prepared to pay a deposit to reserve their services for the day, then pay the remainder upon receiving the video.

What should you ask your wedding videographer before hiring?

Finding the perfect wedding videographer doesn’t have to be stressful. Asking a few key questions upfront will help you find the right fit for your big day. Before talking with wedding videographers, research their work online. Look at their websites, business profiles and social media, and see what their finished wedding videos look like. If the style fits what you’re envisioning, it’s time to reach out. During initial contact, make sure you get along with the person. This is important since they’ll be interacting with you and your guests.

Your first question should be about their availability; there’s no point in going further if they’re booked on your wedding day. Ask to see references if they’re not readily available online. Next, it’s time to talk about money. Ask how they determine rates or what kind of packages they offer. When you settle on a rate and the services you want, make sure to have a written contract that outlines everything, including cost, length of time they film, what post-production will include, and when you can expect to receive the edited project.

When do you pay your wedding videographer and wedding photographer?

Most wedding videographers and photographers require a set deposit when you hire them. Wedding season is a busy time and a deposit secures that vendor’s services for your wedding date. It also protects the vendor if the couple changes their mind at the last minute, and they can’t find a new booking and lose work for the day. The deposit may be anywhere from 20 percent to  50 percent of the agreed-upon total price. Always get a written confirmation that your deposit has been received.

The remainder of the wedding videography and photography bill may be due in the week before to your wedding or on the day of the wedding. Other vendors may require a second payment immediately before the wedding and a third and final payment after the wedding video or photos are delivered. Each vendor has their own policies, so before hiring be sure to read, understand and agree to payment protocols. There is no requirement for tipping wedding videographers or photographers, but if you do want to tip them, the end of the reception is the appropriate time.

How much is videography for a wedding?

Wedding videography is one thing many couples regret not paying for. It may seem like just another expense during wedding planning, but it’s really special to have a moving memory of your big day. The national average cost for wedding videography is $990-$1,260. Pricing can vary depending on wedding length, special film features, the amount of editing required, and how many videographers are needed to cover the event. Many videographers offer packages that provide different levels of service. A very simple wedding documentary could be $600 or more, while a full-scale cinematic experience involving multiple videographers could be $2,500 or more. Here’s an example of average package pricing:

  • Package 1: $1,400
    • Footage during and after the ceremony, including highlights requested by the couple.
    • Two cameras with audio equipment.
    • DVD including a 3- or 4-minute edit to a song of the couple’s choice and a 45- to 50-minute raw edit covering the entire event.
    • Recordings of guests’ good wishes to the couple.
  • Package 2: $1,800
    • Includes everything from Package 1, plus an additional videographer (2 total) and aerial videography.
Hire skilled professionals for absolutely everything.
