About

My daughter’s guitar lesson with Stelios is one of our favorite parts of our week. I discovered Brooklyn Guitar Studio on Craigslist while looking for guitar lessons for my seven year old daughter. Stelios Michas invited us for an introductory lesson. He placed a guitar in my daughter's lap and a pick in her right hand and encouraged her to play and strum while he asked her about songs and singers she liked to listen to. Following the lesson, before we could cross the hall to the elevator, my daughter asked, “Could we come back again?” We were sold. Stelios was helpful in guiding me to buy a guitar for my daughter. By the end of the first scheduled lesson, he had broken down parts of one of my daughter’s favorite songs -- a TV theme song -- for her to play and practice on guitar and introduced her to musical notation. My daughter now keeps a notebook to write down songs she wants to talk to Stelios about. From my own conversations with Stelios and from watching him interact with my daughter, I would recommend him to guitar students of any age or ability. Meet him for an introductory lesson. You will be happy you did.

About

I really enjoyed my guitar lessons with Matteo. He's very easy going and encouraging during lessons, but obviously put a lot of thought into the songs he would teach me - each new song had a new technique or element to understand, that helped me to build my skill set and play many more songs. He was quick to recognize what I liked and disliked, and picked music that I would enjoy practicing. Definitely recommended for anyone learning guitar!

About

I teach to inspire. I have taught many students at every level from young students to professional jazz musicians. What matters most to my students is being understood and understanding what heights they can reach. My job as a teacher is to inspire my students to learn not for learning's sake, but to reach their potential. As a multi-instrumentalist and a biology student, I understand how to explain the material to a wide variety of learning styles, but more important than explaining a subject is making it interesting. Because I loved my school experiences growing up, I am now looking forward to sharing my passion for science with my students. Students require teachers who can provide a good example of how the information they are learning will help them in the real world. As a music therapist working in New York City, I have learned that what matters more than memorizing facts is learning how to learn. If my students are able to understand the mechanics of learning, they will open themselves up to understanding more than they could have possibly imagined. With a degree from Cornell University in Biology and Music, I have played as a professional musician in New York City for eight years. I have toured the US with my band, and I have played all over the world. I have taught students from ages 5 to 85, and every student leaves the lesson feeling inspired to pursue their passion for music. If you want to learn, be prepared for inspiration. My lesson details are the following: - Each lesson will focus on learning songs that the student chooses. - The styles are pop, jazz, R&B and hip-hop. - If taking piano, drums or guitar lessons, you must have your own instrument. My studio equipment are the following: - Logic - Garageband - Notion - Sibelius - Gibson SG-50 - Fender Telecaster - Nord Electro 2 - Nodar Rode Custom Drumset My travel equipment is the acoustic guitar. My specialties are the following: - Jazz - Rock - Pop - R&B

About

I'm a beginning player and I've been taking guitar lessons from Chris for 6 months. He is very patient, extremely knowledgeable about guitar technique and music theory, and his teaching style provides good structure but with plenty of room to learn my favorite songs (we are currently working on "Tears in Heaven" by Eric Clapton). Even though I can only practice one or two hours per week I can now read music and play several songs. It's also amazing to see him play - the ease at which he plays complex songs is astonishing and fun to watch. If you are looking for an experienced and knowledgeable guitar teacher then I highly recommend Chris.

I have been taking lessons from Tim for over a year now. Tim's teaching style and knowledge has helped me improve tremedously. He is a terrific communicator and makes each lesson fun with a goal for the next one. He has analyzed my skill set and teaches me in such a way that I have mastered several pieces in a relatively short period of time. If you are considering taking piano lessons please give Tim Joyce a try. You won't be disappointed.

At the New School For Social Research, I conceived and taught a unique orchestra. The students' performances were so exhilarating, it generated a featured article in the New York Times. With a B.A. degree in music, I am able to utilize special skills that enable student's to play songs almost immediately! Give your little one something special! Instruments we teach are guitar, electric bass, piano, harmonica and drums! They will be able to play any type of music they want. Spring Special; kids $40 once a week. Adults; $50 once a week If they are really interested, I can show them how to improvise and create (compose) their own songs or music. I have been teaching music all of my life, so this is something that will stay with them forever. It is the reason I offer it, especially to young people. I have traveled all over the world with all expenses paid, dined with kings and queens, and feel obligated to share my talents with all people. Give your little one something special! Instruments that we teach are guitar, electric bass, piano, soprano sax, clarinet, harmonica and drums. The range of music choices are unlimited. They will be able to play anything they choose, be it jazz, classical, blues, reggae, hi-life, calypso, rock, pop, hip hop, funk or whatever! All of these forms will be covered. All ages are welcome. As a parent myself and no afterscool programs, at P.S. 87 in Manhattan, I initiated the first multi-cultural theatre and music festival in the history of the school (2009).
