Jason was professional, courteous, and knowledgeable. I initially requested a quote for unclogging the main drain. He mentioned a potential issue with a leaky pipe, which I patched up with a quick fix putty. He and his assistant Steve, explained how the putty can expand and the pipe can eventually burst causing a potential problem. He quoted me on both jobs (a fair and reasonable price) and did the job on the spot. He started at 6 PM and finished around 8:30 PM. The clogged drain was fixed, and I also avoided a future problem with the patched up leaky pipe. The pipe was replaced. The Job was done right, at a reasonable price, at hours that worked for my schedule. I will recommend Jason for any job and I will certainly hire him for future Jobs.

The Tech from Service Guys arrived at our home early on a Saturday morning, just as we had requested. He explained how he would make the repairs and got to work right away. We were disappointed with the resealing of a sink drain. The finished project looked sloppy and messy. We could have done that ourselves, but we hired a professional thinking he would do a better job than us. The other projects (fixing a broken kitchen drawer, installing a drawer pull, and hanging two kitchen shelves) were done quickly and to our satisfaction. We only wish the resealed drain was cleaner, but otherwise we are glad we hired the Service Guys.

Punctual, Polite, Understanding of my financial situation and priced the job accordingly. Efficiently accomplished both jobs in a rapid amount of time. Keen attention to detail. Went the extra mile and scrubbed and cleaned the toilet after unclogging it. That was a unexpected nice gesture. He went the extra mile. I would hire him again and recommend him without reservation.

Came to my house 9pm right after I submitted the request to thumbtack. I had called two other plumbers on my own first and no one else would come right away. Mike showed up to drain the leaking water tank that night. Made appointment to do the replacement of the tank next day. Called to update me on timing the following day as well since he had to order the tank. Quickly completed the task once water tank obtained. Trustworthy and genuine. I’ll hire him again for other plumbing or handyman needs.

Our drain pipes in our bathroom sink had corroded and basically fallen apart. Since this was a semi-emergency situation, we needed a plumber who could come within a day or two. Eddie was able to make time for us and came right on time. I had sent him a photo of the situation and he came fully prepared with all the right parts. After the job was completed, he noticed that the sink was totally clogged, a new problem. He literally stayed another two hours (!) trying to trouble shoot, since the clog had nothing to with his work or the initial problem. He did not ask for extra payment and explained that he just wanted to make sure all was good and we were satisfied. At the end of the day, all was good, and we will definitely call on him again for our next plumbing job.

He arrived on time as scheduled and went straight to work immediately. He fixed a clogged drain for me but had to replace damaged pipes before he completed the job. He walked with me to the hardware store to ensure I purchased the right materials. He was very professional and appropriate at all times. He removed sliding shower doors and the frame, he cleaned up after he finished working and did not leave any mess. I would definitely recommend him for any plumbing and/or electrical job! His prices are also very competitive!

Needed faucet replacement on a pedestal sink. Most plumbers said it would be very cumbersome. Anthony worked around the sink, and replaced the faucets without having to remove the pedestal or the sink from wall. Because of this approach we couldnt replace the drain stopper but to me it was not an important thing. Very happy with workmanship and pricing! Thanks Anthony!!

William replaced water shut-off valves for sink and dishwasher. While testing the water lines, he discovered leaks caused by a contractor's incomplete installation of drain pipes and faucet. William properly installed these items and prevented water damage to new cabinets. He also replaced leaky bathroom sink pipe connectors. Excellent work, fast completion time, and fair prices. I highly recommend his plumbing services. Thanks Thumbtack.com!

Great pro who did not hesitate to come late after his last job for the day to help us unclog our sink so we would not have to wait another day without a kitchen sink.

Great job. I will consider Mandell Plumbing for any plumbing issue that I have in the future. I originally thought that I had a sump pump issue but turned out to be a clogged drain to the street. They were at my house within an hour of calling them and fixed the issue as promised.

Al showed up on time, which I always appreciate. He tackled a very difficult faucet and drain replacement in my bathroom. He was very determined, polite and clear about his desire for me to be happy with the job he was doing. Great job overall. No more leaks!

I had a few plumbing jobs that needed to be done, leaky kitchen sink faucet, clogged drain in bathrub, and leaky valves by toilet. Tom did a fantastic job! He worked neatly (I hardly knew he was there), quickly, and professionally. His prices were reasonable and he kept me informed on what had to be done and what it would cost. I would definitely call Tom again!

I simply could not be more pleased with my experience with CJ from Waterflow, cannot imagine ever hiring anyone else for projects in my apartment, and am already recommending him to my friends. I received several quotes through Thumbtack for contractors to replace my bathroom vanity and sink. However, I made the decision to hire CJ very early in the process based on his way of communicating. CJ was always highly responsive incredibly polite, and followed up to check in on my plans without ever making me feel that I was being pressured. On the day of the installation, he was a little delayed due to traffic but called precisely at his promised arrival time to let me know. He was also very engaging and easy to communicate with and I learned a lot from observing him. I have been a member of the Co-Op board for my building for many years and also undertook a major renovation in my apartment a few years ago. As a result, I know a thing or two about dealing with contractors. With all things considered, working with CJ has been my most positive contractor experience to date. I had decided to replace the vanity and sink in my bathroom but elected to keep the original faucet, which went well with the decor. In hindsight, this was not the best choice since the existing faucet turned out to be quite corroded once CJ was able to remove it. I am also quite handy and have built and repaired many things in my home myself, but knew that this job was beyond my ability to take on alone. I appreciated the fact that CJ was always receptive to my suggestions. He was very patient in everything that he did and worked delicately and carefully to preserve the existing faucet, taking his time to lubricate all the joints and make sure that al of the mechanisms were working properly.. Unfortunately, a key connector, which was probably already broken and glued together, came apart as he was trying to install it on the new sink. It was clear that we were not going to be able to reuse the old unit after all and CJ drove me to the hardware store to get a replacement. Before we left the store, he made sure that he checked all of the mechanisms for the one that we would purchase and made sure that h=it would be compatible with the new sink and vanity top. Unlike many contractors that I have worked with, CJ actually read the manual for the new faucet to make sure that his approach to the installation was correct. However, he clearly understood all of the mechanisms that he was working with and would take the time to explain things to me as he went along. I learned very quickly to trust his judgment. We ended up having to remove the bathroom door in order to get the new vanity in place, and there were quite a few challenges related to the alignment of the drain and accommodation of the shutoff valves and other existing fixtures with the shelving inside the vanity. All of this made the job take a lot longer than anticipated, but CJ remained incredibly patient and focused on all the finer details necessary to get the job done right. He was also fully prepared to honor his original estimate, which was beyond reasonable. Knowing it was well deserved, I paid CJ almost all of the extra cash that I had on hand and would have gladly paid even more. His attitude throughout the entire process was simply outstanding and his work ethic is exemplary. CJ will be my go-to hire for any other projects that I take on in my home.

Very Efficient team and super quick. I had the chance to have Steve and his helper who happened to be quick and clean who fixed my drain. One thing i have never seen before is plumbers wearing shoe covers. Well they DID. I found that to be really respectful. Highly recommended!

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What are plumbers and what do they do?

Plumbers are skilled professionals who are trained to install and maintain pipes and systems for drinking water, sewage and drainage. They usually have trained through four- to five-year training programs, which include apprenticeships, via trade schools and community colleges. Plumbers’ areas of expertise typically go beyond pipes to include mathematics, blueprint reading, plumbing codes and water distribution. They handle plumbing emergencies, such as broken pipes or clogged drains, and install and maintain everything from a new piping system to a replacement faucet. Plumbers also know how to install bathtubs and showers, toilets, water heaters and dishwashers. Plumbers may work on residential or commercial sites, sometimes designing and laying out a pipe system during construction.

How do you find a good plumber?

Whether you need a plumber to perform drain repair, install a new fixture, or replace rusty pipes, you need to make sure you hire someone reliable who will finish your job on time and within budget. Start by asking the plumbers on your short list these questions:

  • What is the total cost? Make sure your estimate includes materials and labor. Find out whether the plumber will be providing the materials and whether you’re being charged an hourly rate (which is variable) or a flat fee.
  • Is removal and cleanup included in the job? Some plumbers leave behind old parts, while others include the cleanup in the cost.
  • Is the work guaranteed? Find out whether the work (as well as the parts or fixtures) are guaranteed under a warranty.
