Last Saturday afternoon we were in a panic- my wife's computer was unresponsive and it appeared as though we had a hard drive failure. While we had most of the data and documents stored elsewhere, we did not have the photos and videos from the past 6 months backed up. For some reason, I thought (but didn't verify) that the back up program was operational on her computer and, of course, since it wasn't, we were experiencing this issue (Murphy's law?)...and the unspoken word was that it is (always?) the husband's fault...so, now I was in trouble and knew that I must resolve the problem.
I did everything that I could from my own knowledge and from going online to research the topic, and even bought a hard drive case to try and load it onto another computer but nothing seemed to work. So, it was Sunday evening and we had not accomplished anything other than getting more and more frustrated (and sad and anxious) about the possibility that we had lost those treasured photos and videos. Finally, my wife suggested that we use Thumbtack (of which I had not heard about until that time and I am now certain to use it again and often!)...we posted our request and within a very short time we received a response from Stephen with his email and phone #. I really didn't expect that on a Sunday evening. I reached out to him and within a few exchanges and Q&A, we agreed to meet the following morning at our home.
Stephen arrived as scheduled and examined the computer and hard drive. He attempted all that he could with the tools that he had available to restore the drive but to no avail. While I was losing hope, he said that we shouldn't be discouraged because there appeared to be no physical damage to the drive and he would attempt to restore it at his office. He took the drive and off he went. It was a very tense day but after what seemed to be an eternity (it was only 8-10 hours later), he reported that there were signs of life. He was able to identify data on the drive and was in the process of restoring it. Finally, less than one day later, he informed me that he was looking at the folders with our pictures and videos and I cannot tell you how relieved I was at that moment.
Stephen loaded up a new drive with all of the data, documents and, most important, photos and videos, that were on the defective one and delivered it to us the next day. I have now completed the recovery effort and have it all copied onto my wife's new computer and new backup system. I can assure you that the computer will now be backed up every night and I will religiously examine it at least weekly. I am out of the 'dog house' and back in the good graces of my wife- with a sigh of relief and some degree of satisfaction.
Stephen is an absolute professional- we are delighted with the experience and are extremely thankful to him for all that he accomplished in such a short period of time. Moreover, he did so while being responsive, informative and understanding given the situation that we were confronting. It was not just data and documents- it was emotional and sentimental. The photos and videos are irreplaceable and so it was a project that was fraught with dangers and complications...
We are very happy and pleased to recommend Stephen to all those that need the highest quality of service for their computer needs at very reasonable rates- and all with a most personable attitude, great responsiveness, expert advice and overall professional demeanor.
