Emily has been tutoring my ten year old son for the past 2 months and since then he has been doing great in his Mandarin class. Since he started working with Emily, he brings home nothing but 100's on his Exams and Quiz's. Aside for his grades he has become more confident in his other classes and activities. knowing that with the right tutor and a little hard work, he can achieve a lot. My son's teacher says he has requested to take mandarin in the fall so I look forward to working with Emily as I transform him into an Bi-lingual child. Emily has already provided me with a list of study materials so we can work on over the summer. She's always a step ahead and has his best interest in mind. I'm so happy to have found her on thumbtack and would recommend her for any job, big or small.

I grew up speaking Italian and always loved being able to switch between languages. When I was ready to learn another language, I decided learning Mandarin would be the best choice given how many people in the world speak it and the current geopolitical climate. I chose AC Tutoring due to their catered lessons and their flexibility. I get to choose the schedule that works best for me and my lessons are slowed down or sped up based on my individual performance. I live in the peninsula and my tutor and I coordinate each week to meet either at a cafe of at a library depending on the content of the lesson. Should I have spikes in work or travel, my tutor and I build this into our lesson plan. After 1 year, I took a trip to China in which I felt very comfortable navigating alone and making every day conversation with locals. Highly recommended for someone looking to learn the language but who needs more flexibility as compared to a structured, weekly class.

Mina has been teaching my three children, ages 10, 8 and 6, for the past six months. She is a dedicated teacher who is able to teach Mandarin to them in a fun and engaging way - my children look forward to lessons each week. They are eager to practice what they've learned and are proud of their progress. Mina understands the needs and learning styles of each child. I would highly recommend Mina to anyone who is interested in having their children learn Mandarin.

    About

Most teachers, like me, are professional musicians who supplement their income by giving lessons. However: I genuinely love teaching and would happily do it even if I didn't need the money. My students can see the passion and excitement I have for my work, and that does wonders in their ability to learn and develop. It is one thing to play an instrument well, but it is another thing entirely to know how to teach it well.

    About

I am an individual with a very unusual linguistic and cultural background. I grew up in NJ amid a rustic form of Venetian spoken at home and first brought to the Bronx by maternal grandparents, who are Italian immigrants. My grandmother has inspired my love of both Italy and the peninsula's rich tapestry of regional cultures. I received a prestigious Fulbright Fellowship to study dialectology at the University of Venice in 2006-2007. After that very fruitful and memorable year of linguistic and cultural dialogue, I went on to graduate study at the University of Chicago, where, even in an Introductory Italian course, I was able to reach all my students with Italy's very diverse history.
