I havent been taking lessons for that long, but I can already tell that my singing voice has improved tremendously since my initial lesson. My voice now has a lot more power than it has ever had before. The lessons are very informative, educational, and a lot of fun! Since Patrick Wickham is a voice physiologist, he knows all about the voice and what should be happening in your throat/back/abdomen to make certain sounds. I enjoy hearing about how everything works and what exercises to do to work certain muscles and things to improve my breathing, singing etc. I am very impressed with my experience and the service at WVS. Before every lesson I am offered tea, coffee, and water. Patrick Wickham makes every lesson slightly different so that we can work on different aspects of singing. The lessons are also catered to the individual so that you get the best experience and also the best techniques that will work for you. The lessons are recorded and sent to you after the lesson. That way, you can practice at home and you know what you need to work on. Just like everything else, you have to practice if you want to get better and want to see the results you desire. Patrick Wickham even sends you (via email) exercises to do to practice using the various muscles and things you use while singing. If you ever have any questions about anything from a clarification of something in the lesson, or a question about your performing career, Patrick Wickham is always there is help you in any way he can. Since he has an incredible amount of experience in performing, he can give great and reliable advice to any of your questions or concerns. I have had an outstanding experience so far and I cant wait to see how much I will improve in the future! Thank you Patrick Wickham!
Really friendly and great with constructive criticism! Definitely a great teacher to seek out for voice lessons, beginner or advanced.
Rae de la Cretaz is a magician! I walked into my first lesson with her seven short months ago, after many years of longing to take singing lessons and a year of procrastinating. She put me right at ease, and I got to experience her incredible store of knowledge, energy and outright passion for the human voice. When I came in, I had what I described as a "pleasant" voice, no better, no worse. I had been singing (mostly to myself) for my entire life, and for the last 18 years with a choir. The change in this short amount of time still surprises me. Sometimes when I sing during my lesson, I hardly recognize that it's me singing. There's a richness that I would have admired in others, but never thought would be possible for me. People whose opinions I respect have come forward and remarked favorably about my voice, something I didn't experience before. In the short time that I've been taking lessons with Rae, I've learned so much, and look forward to coming to each lesson. She is a treasure!
I have not been working with Pamela for long, so ask me again in a couple of months and I'll probably change to 5 stars! So far I enjoy my lessons and the exercises we do have already expanded my range. My high E used to be just a squeak but now I can really sing it after only a few lessons, and I even feel more confident with my lower range - something that has always been a struggle. I look forward to seeing what is in store with her guidance. I fully recommend Miss Pamela!
Annie is a wondeful teacher. At first when I decided to take vocal lessons I was afraid that I will not feel comfortable to sing infront of someone who is new. Annie made me so comfortable to sing infront of anyone and not feel shy about it at all. What I like about her too is that she tries to introduce me to new styles of music in order to improve my voice and breathing techniques. She also gives good advices that helps a lot!
Jan is truly an amazing teacher, she is fun and energetic, supportive and very knowledgeable. I brought my wife for a beginner voice lesson (she had never taken one before) as a surprise birthday present, and Jan really made it a birthday to remember! Jan taught my wife how to use her voice as a musical instrument, and encouraged her to sing her heart out. Grazie mille!
Barbara is personable and extremely professional with her singing lessons.
So far we’ve had a handful of singing lessons and my daughter loves the teacher.
As a complete novice to singing and actually pretty terrified of singing in public, Anette was the perfect fit for me. She made me feel absolutely comfortable and created a safe environment. Plus her instructions and exercises are spot on, even for someone completely new to singing. Added bonus is that her personality is super fun so we shared lots of laughs during practice. I can 100% recommend Anette.
Dave is an amazing instructor! He truly cares about his students. Keep an open mind when coming to his lessons, because I can assure you that his methods are to ensure that you enhance musically, but with correct techniques. Dave is patient and honest. He not only wants to see his students do well and improve in their lessons, but he also cares about his student's well-being. I am happy that I found Dave on thumbtack, by far the best decision, I have ever made. I have improved greatly within the year, and I know I'll continue.
I've had five lessons with LaJuan over the summer. I liked it so much my husband and daughter also took lessons! LaJuan is very professional and has worked with our hectic schedule. She strikes a balance between working with our limitations and pushing us to do better. I like how at the end of my five sessions, I know my range, what music soothes my voice and had my first recording. We will certainly take more lessons as singing is a never ending journey. Try her services, you'll love it too!
I am currently a freshman vocal major at Laguardia High School, and thanks to Jonathan, I feel I have a lot to contribute to the school. The great thing about my joint piano and vocal lessons with Jonathan, is that he doesn’t force any technique or style of music. He tailors my lessons to what I want to work on, which, for me, can then translate into my ability to perform at school. He is a skilled arranger and can mold a song to fit my level of playing so that I can accompany myself or my peers. Most importantly, the lessons are a blast! He is super encouraging and his sense of humor make it so much fun to work with him. Emma F.
Jonathan Segal is not only an extremely talented pianist but also a very skilled and insightful teacher of piano whether classical, jazz, or pop. He is a very nice guy with a great sense of humor that makes the piano lessons even more enjoyable -- not to mention more productive ! I highly recommend him. I am very glad to have found Jonathan as an instructor for studying piano.
Amazing vocal teacher! Nicky is a great vocal teacher who is kind and patient. She has been working with my 11 year daughter for about 3 years. Nicky makes the extra effort to use age appropriate songs and part of the lesson includes music theory. Win win! My daughter can’t commit to the practice time necessary with an instrument, so we went with vocal lessons with Nicky. With singing she can practice any time and anywhere. Nicky has been able to bring out some beautiful notes, making this mom very proud. Can’t beat the price - she comes to our home and is a very accommodating with our crazy schedule. Again she is an AMAZING vocal teacher!!
I saw Verena for a few sessions to get prepared for open mic gigs that I wanted to start with and in general sing in public. I have had singing classes before, and what I loved about her approach is that she is so open and non judgmental and so patient, she picks you up exactly where you are and helps you build up from there. I loved that we had a lot of fun during our sessions too. They were held at her house in Brooklyn which made me feel at home and she accompanied me on her keyboard. I felt very free to move around in the space and try out things with my voice and body. I could explore my voice and she would be there as a guiding force. I can recommend her highly. I worked on a few songs that I had brought in and when leaving I felt ready to sing them outside afterwards. I had my first successful open mic recently and then another right after, so much fun. I will definitely work with her again in the future.
Art is the best singing teacher I've ever had...and that's saying a lot, because I've been studying voice on and off for over 20 years. I've studied rock as well as opera, and art is the best at BOTH genres that I've ever met. He knows so much about the human voice, it's actually freakish! He can talk about any vocal technique and explain it's strengths and weaknesses in simple terms that are easy to understand. His own technical approach is so simple and natural -- it actually brings out and enhances your natural ability rather than trying to superimpose some artificial mumbo jumbo that just confuses you and sounds like crap! I've also observed many of his lessons, and he's great with females too (I'm a guy obviously haha). i was also surprised to find out that he is as skilled and knowledgeable about broadway music as he is about opera and rock. The other great thing about Art is that he is a good engineer as well, and he has a studio in his house. So he regularly records his students singing at their lessons and then emails them the mp3s. This is SO helpful...hearing yourself recorded on a regular basis in an objective way can help you grow as a vocalist by leaps and bounds. He has even made some great sounding demos for some of his more serious students, and those demos actually helped them secure auditions and singing jobs. He has even helped some of his younger students land some great auditions at reputable music schools. And finally, Art is one of the best people i know. He is a great guy who always gives 110%. He cares about all his students. He's also hilariously funny, which keeps me smiling and relaxed at my lessons. It's the perfect environment to learn voice, which by nature can be stressful sometimes. Art is the complete package when it comes to voice teachers! Give him a try...you won't be sorry :)
Corinn has taught my two daughters (13 & 15) piano and voice for the past 3 years. She is the best teacher we have had and we are thrilled that she has moved with us, by sheer luck, from London to NJ! She is extremely reliable and conscientious and is a talented and patient teacher who challenges my girls as individuals and has helped improve their skills tremendously. They look forward to their lessons with Corinn and feel as very comfortable with her. She is a very talented singer and pianist and is passing on her love of music to our daughters. We feel very lucky to have her influence in their lives.
Deciding to take up voice lessons and start singing again in a trained way was a big decision for me. Life's demands seem to leave no room for activities we really love sometimes... I didn't quite know what to expect but knew that I wanted and needed someone who had not only the technical expertise to help me but could also see my love for singing and music and help me find that girl again. Amy more than delivers on all points in a way that is insightful and encouraging. With Amy I am starting to believe that I can get back to and possibly exceed my previous skill level even though it's been a very long time since I sang with any true consideration of good technique and mindfulness. I enjoy our time together thoroughly and time just flies. I am learning to harmonize, which is something that's always required work for me, and I am enjoying every bit of it. It's all thanks to Amy's ability to make it accessible and bring out of you something you don't really believe possible. I look forward to my lesson with Amy every week and I already hear a noticeable improvement in the quality of my voice. If you are looking for a voice coach or overall music instructor in the Monmouth County area then you owe it to yourself to get in touch with her! Just remember that I am her favorite student so that role is already taken!😉 I hope to see and sing with you soon at Amy's studio!
Rebecca is very good in trying to work with your schedule so your children can have her lessons and very professional and very good with children.
In just a few short months I can't believe how much I've learned from Jessica. My technique has improved; my tone in the upper part of my range has improved; how to keep my tongue from getting in the way / impeding the sound; so many aspects of singing. When I started my lessons I was particularly concerned that I might be doing something that was tiring my voice and causing it to lose volume. Jessica's knowledge of and ability to demonstrate proper singing technique helped me through that concern and I know I am a "healthier" singer now. Knowledge and ability aside, her approach is also very patient and very encouraging. I highly recommend her to anyone interested in improving their technique, tone, range, artistic ability, etc.
My daughter has been taking lessons with Ms. Mariah for 9 months and she’s still excited to go each week. Ms. Mariah keeps the lessons fun while teaching her the proper piano techniques. She has a very sweet demeanor which my daughter reacts very well to. I highly recommend lessons with Ms. Mariah!
