Joe from Life Work did an outstanding job with my resume and cover letter. He took the time to deliver a really enjoyable to read and at the same time formal resume that matched exactly my personality and work ethic. He knows how to write and is aware of the recruitment system we have nowadays. I'll recommend him to my family members and friends with no doubts. Thanks!

My wife and I started this journey about 2 months ago. We weren't sure what to expect and were a bit apprehensive about hiring a personal trainer. I have to say that Phil has exceeded our expectations. He comes to the sessions prepared, follows up with us during the week and changes the workout as needed. We started to see results in about 2 weeks and definitely feel that our core strength has improved. Do yourself a favor - just start, you won't be sorry.

I recommend Katie to whomever needs a personal trainer. She's great and had me do workouts I didn't even know existed. After my first session with her I was sore in places I didn't know could be sore. Katie also has a great personality and actually cares about her clients and about losing the right amount of weight in a healthy way and time period.

Carlos is the secret, the real deal. At first I was hesitant about paying for a trainer. I thought I knew it all about exercise being fairly athletic. I also thought that only celebrities had personal trainers and paid dearly for them…until I met Carlos. I didn’t just get a fitness trainer I have an accessible counselor that guides me in exercise, nutrition, and everyday conditioning. When I travel he sends me exercise regimes for the hotel gym and constantly advises me on dieting and working out. As far as results: I’ve lost 52 lbs. and have great energy. Carlos is the real deal. If you don’t believe it, just ask me.

8 months ago I was a self-professed "lazy person". I am a 34 year old mother of 3 young children. I never enjoyed exercising, hated sweating and was terrified of the thought of even being in a gym. I was unhappy with my appearance and weight so with the encouragement of some friends I joined the gym in May 2014. I spent a few weeks taking spin classes and using the elliptical 3-4 days a week. I never would go alone and heaven forbid I touch anything that wasn't cardio. After a month I became frustrated that I wasn't seeing any changes, after all now I was a self-professed "cardio queen". At this point I thought maybe I needed some help so I called in the big guns...I hired a personal trainer...but not for his "big guns", I had heard he was the best, that all his clients loved him and that he would be a good fit for my personality. I hired Doug without even saying 2 words to him. I signed up to train 1x per week. After my first month I already lost 3% body fat! I became hooked. Doug has always been so supportive and motivating. He is possibly the most kind and patient person I know. He is always available to answer any questions and goes above and beyond to be flexible and accommodating. More importantly then all that, he is an amazing trainer. In the past 8 months I am currently down over 15% body fat and have lost more then 40 lbs and over 32 inches. He has helped me become confident lifting weights, doing TRX and boxing. I look forward to every session with him and have since upped my sessions to 4-6 times a week simply because the value is there. I know that when I have a session with him I am guaranteed a great workout and the results shortly follow. He might be magical....but if not he at least knows the tricks to transform even the least athletic, most out of shape person into a now self-proclaimed "exercise phanatic". Doug is extremely professional and dedicated. I highly recommend him if you are serious about training and getting results.

I have a couple of degrees and a decent job, but I didn’t feel like I was having the success in my career that I thought I should. I felt like I kept doing things that got in the way of doing better. I am a fairly stubborn person, so of course I thought I could solve my problems myself. The problem with that thinking is that unless you understand why you are having issues, you will continue to keep going down the same road. I had heard about life coaches and thought I would give it a try. The first couple of coaches I tried weren’t a good fit for me. I didn’t really feel comfortable working with them because they didn’t actually get to know me to understand what was going on with me. Then I met Dancer for Life. I knew right away I had met the right coach! She had a way of making me feel comfortable and helped me begin to recognize some of issues I was facing. I am a little defensive at times (well, maybe a lot defensive), but Beth was able to talk with me in a way that I could be really honest with her and myself. That was a very important beginning! From there we worked together to develop a plan that would help me with my problems in my career. I think the collaborative approach was the key, because if she had given me a “one-size-fits-all” plan, it wouldn’t have worked for me. I came to grips with the fact that I was really bad with procrastination. I also had difficulty taking constructive criticism, which was incredibly important to resolve if I was ever going to advance in my career. There were some setbacks here and there, but Beth worked with me through it all and equipped me with the tools and skills to get back on track and make big improvements in my life. Today, I am in a much better spot and am having great success in my career. I’ve even gotten two promotions! More importantly, the skills that Beth helped me developed have even assisted me in other areas of my life. I am so glad I reached out to Dancer for Life and am proud to feel like I am one of her successes. If you want to make some changes in your life, I highly encourage you to reach out to Beth, the Dancer for Life. You will be very happy you did. When you do, be ready to take a positive step in your life!

GeneWorks = Gene works!! Gene is AMAZING! It's rare to find fitness professionals who are passionate about what they do and at the same time actually care about their clients' overall well-being. Gene has been my trainer and my life coach for the past 3 years and I couldn't have asked for a better professional. I am a law enforcemnet officer and although I am active in my field, I put on unnessary weight some years back but since training with him I have lost excess body fat and gained muscle mass, I am now eating well based on his recommendaions and feel like I did when I was in my 20s (I'm now in my 30s). I am in the best shape I have EVER been! I recommend Gene to anyone who is looking for an honest, caring and very professional trainer, life coach or sports nutrition specialist. Thank you GeneWorks!!!

I found Lisa through her website after quite a bit of searching. I knew what I wanted to accomplish; I just didn't know how to get it done. Nutritional advice, personal training, and motivation is what I was searching for and exactly what I found in Lisa! She is encouraging, upbeat, and always focused on my development. The workouts are fun, varied and always challenging. As I have made lifestyle changes toward being healthier - I feel that I have a true partner in Lisa. She has worked with me on so many different muscle groups and overall cardio fitness my health, body and spirit are all stronger. Each time we go through something new she demonstrates just what a strong and effective teacher she is both my modeling the exercise and patiently giving feedback until my form improves. She is such a strong teacher that many of the exercises she has taught me I now can do at home. Lisa has a variety of videos that she has available for those in-between work outs along with those times I can't make my twice weekly workouts. Simply put - a joy to work with and a complete health coach. I feel nothing less than grateful to have found her.

Nina is a great personal trainer. I have multiple health issues that make working out hard for me but she's been a great listener and has created work outs specifically for me. She's very motivating and encouraging. I always leave my sessions feeling better than when I walked in. She's also been great with providing nutrition and dieting advice. After 2 weeks of dieting and working out, I've lost 4.5 lbs. and an inch off my waist line. I'd definitely recommend going to Stella Fitness!

Kevin Burns has a depth of knowledge, compassion and understanding that I haven’t seen and or experienced in a long time. He gave me lots of personal advice to help me get “unstuck” at a time I needed it most. With his advice I was able to turn things around. His words came from a deep place and has helped me “change course” in many areas of my life. He’s warm and very professional and has a good heart. I would highly recommend him to anyone seeking assistance. He’s an amazing ‘Life Coach’ ...Keith Gitens

Katrina is an excellent life coach. She pays special attention to what your individual goals, and works to formulate a plan best-fit for your life. From my experience she had a deep understanding of the power of the mind, and was able to explain in simple terms how to overcome mental blocks and get the most out of life and your personal experience. Attaining my goals seemed to become a much simpler and less daunting task after having worked with Katrina.

Hitting the gym was a real struggle for me. I'd get there with good intentions and then have no idea how to workout. My routine consisted of hitting the treadmill, picking up some weights and feeling intimidated by the gym rats I was surround by. I found myself hurting (not a good hurt) and feeling discouraged because I knew that what I was doing wasn’t creating progress. I needed someone to teach me how to workout. I had seen that a couple of peers were training with Bill and their results were significant. I figured what do I have to lose? I knew right away that Bill was exactly what I needed to kick start my journey to a healthier me. During our first meeting we discussed my medical history, goals, and things that he would need to pay special attention to/ make modifications for. I made him aware that I have back pain every so often, he took note of the pain and suggested things that could help alleviate it. One night he put special tape on my back that assists with keeping the spine straight. In order for him to apply it I had to take my shirt off, at first I was really self conscious because I’m standing next to a dude that jacked, while I’m a work in process. I would say Bill is the OG of the "judgement free zone." He is also an excellent teacher, he wants you to understand an exercise from point a to b. If you’re looking for results overnight that’s wishful thinking. It’s a process that takes time, but once you start seeing and feeling the results, you'll know it's because of all the hard work you put in and the motivation Bill provides. Before you know it you’ll start feeling and looking like your best self. Bill pricing is extremely fair for being in a metropolitan area. He is super flexible (literally and figuratively) if you need to reschedule. He is always willing to fit you in at a different time if your original session isn’t doable that week. He comes right to your home, no gym membership required! I would recommend Bill to anyone who is ready to put in the work to become a healthier individual. Not only do I have a trainer for life, I also have a friend for life. Thanks for having my back Bill :) Also I'm in his profile pic, so that's pretty snazzy!

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What is a life coach?

A professional, accredited life coach works with people to help them make important changes in their life, either growing in their profession or changing gears in their personal lives. They help clients turn their dreams or wishes into realistic, attainable goals. They guide people through the process of making life changes by helping them evaluate the steps they must take to reach a particular goal, then help them decide how — and whether — to take those steps in the most efficient, effective and rewarding way possible. A life coach acts as a motivator, strategist and accountability partner. Unlike a therapist, a life coach doesn’t help solve problems from your past — they’re focused on helping you move forward with new ways of acting and thinking that will help you reach your goals. Some people specialize in particular types of life coaching, including life balancing coaches, small business coaches, executive coaches and personal finance coaches. Some meet clients in person, while others hold consultations over the phone.

Regardless of which type of life coach you’re interested in, make sure the person holds an International Coach Federation (ICF) credential. There are three tiers of credentials: Associate, Professional and Master, which require coaching experience ranging from 100 hours to 2,500 hours.

What is a health coach?

A health coach is a service provider you can hire to help you realize your wellness goals. You can hire a health and wellness coach to guide you through life changes, keep you focused on weight loss or fitness goals, help boost your mental health, and more. Many health coaches work with their clients for set periods of time as the client moves toward a measurable goal. Wellness coaches come from varying backgrounds, and may have different areas of focus depending on their education and training. Research potential coaches by reading their reviews, researching their academic and personal backgrounds, and learning about any certifications they have earned from coaching institutes. Often, health and wellness coaches sell coaching packages ranging from three to six months or longer, depending on the client’s needs. The average national cost for an individual health coach session ranges from $60 to $90, although prices may range as low as $30 or up to $130 or more, depending on your location and the coach.

How much does a life coach cost?

A life coach helps clients set and reach professional and personal goals, develop positive habits, and deal with stress. Some people meet with a life coach once or twice, while others form an ongoing professional relationship, meeting regularly in person or on the phone. The average national cost to meet with a life coach ranges from $80 to $130 an hour. Some coaches offer per-session pricing, especially for one-time meetings; expect to pay an average of $100-$125. People who want to work with a coach over a period of time to explore life transitions, career growth or lifestyle changes may be able to get discounted pricing in a package. For example, three 60-minute sessions cost an average of $300, four 60-minute sessions cost an average of $350, and four 60- to 90-minute sessions plus unlimited contact between sessions cost an average of $400. Some specific types of coaching, such as relationship or marriage coaching, cost more than standard life coaching. For instance, three 60-minute relationship coaching sessions cost an average of $500, four 60-minute sessions cost an average of $550, and six 60- to 90-minute sessions cost an average of $650 when purchased as a package. Training and experience can also affect the cost of hiring a life coach. An Associate Certified Coach, who holds a certification that requires only 60 hours of training and 100 hours of coaching experience, will charge less than a Master Certified Coach, who typically has at least 200 hours of training and 2,500 hours of coaching experience.

What is a holistic wellness coach?

When you want to reach new heights with your health and wellness, consider hiring a holistic wellness coach. Much like a health coach, a holistic wellness coach is focused on your well-being and meets with you in one-on-one sessions to help you identify and reach your targeted goals. A holistic wellness coach will typically have you take all components of your life into account when working to achieve your goals. If your goal is to lose weight, a holistic wellness coach will not only offer recommendations for your diet and exercise, but also discuss your emotional health, your work/life balance, your spiritual side, and each area of your life that affects your ability to follow a nutrition and fitness plan.

Although they are highly motivational and often can help clients achieve great results, holistic wellness coaches are not professional health care providers or registered dietitians. Different institutes and training centers provide certifications for holistic wellness coaching, so be sure to research your coach and read their reviews to understand more about their techniques and training.

Why get a life coach?

People of all ages and in all careers have called in a life coach. Life coaches are accredited professionals who can help you figure out the tangible changes you can make in your life to reach your goals; they can even help you turn your dreams into goals, if you’re not sure where to go next. A life coach can also help people find their purpose in life. Life coaching clients often have an idea of what they want to do, such as help people or work with animals, but don’t know how to turn that passion into a career. A life coach can help clients work through the options to find a clear path with concrete steps that lead to an attainable goal. A life coach can also help clients make a major career change, such as starting a new business. Life coaches can help clients develop better habits that will make them more successful, acting as an accountability partner. Life coaches also often guide their clients through major transitions in life, such as a career change or other stressful situations that are made easier with guidance from a neutral third party.

Hire skilled professionals for absolutely everything.
