I am very satisfied with my experience with Adelphia Moving (aka INEXPENSIVE MOVING SOLUTIONS now). The moving appointment was very easy and clear. And the price was very reasonable and competitive. John and Mel showed on time with a truck on that day. They did a great job in moving my two-bedroom apartment from a 3rd floor walk up (in NJ) to a 1st floor walk up (in MD). These did their best to take good care of my stuff and nothing was damaged. I highly recommend this moving company.

My move with On-Demand Movers was perfect from start to finish! Lanre the manager was the main contact and was very responsive to all of my questions. The five movers he sent were polite, careful and great to work with. They meticulously wrapped all of our furniture that required it. They packed the 26 foot truck and I cannot believe they actually got all of our stuff in! Only a few things didn't fit and they brought that stuff in a 2nd vehicle. Once at the new house they worked quickly and efficiently to get every box and piece of furniture to it's proper location. I would definitely recommend On-Demand to anyone looking for excellent service. Also, the rate wasn't cheap but also not super expensive. I think you get what you pay for and I feel that we paid a fair price for such an outstanding job. Thank you to Lanre and his team!

While my movers were a few hours late due to a previous job that took longer than expected, Art kept me in the loop and made several phone calls to provide updates. I have a few awkwardly-shaped/heavy pieces of furniture that were handled with the utmost care. Plus, my movers were friendly, courteous, and helpful. My one comment is that the truck comes with two guys - which does prolong the time it takes. In the past, I've used moving companies with three workers - two to carry items in/out and one to load the truck - which expedites the process. In addition, I moved A LOT of boxes and bags myself prior to the move day, so most of the items moved were larger items that I couldn't carry myself. That being said, the price was reasonable and the guys were friendly. All in all, a solid experience. I would use them again.

I gave these guys 4.2 stars out of 5 overall! They were professional and courteous. They arrived 1.5 hours late on a 3pm Sunday appointment, but shiet happens. The truck was a tad too small so they asked if two trips were ok after an hour and a half into loading truck and I had no problem with it! They went back to old house to get 2nd load alone and didn't bring back the biggest piece of furniture left, my sons dresser. They quoted me $375 for total job, then renagotiated $600 after a couple hours of loading and realizing the truck wasn't big enough and two trips were needed which was fine with me as I was able to negotiate/add our 3 atv's and small dune buggy to second load which would have cost a lot to do myself . Overall satisfied !!! No broken furniture and only one nick in new house wall going upstairs. Cruz and Jordan seemed like real go getters NOT afraid to work hard and adapt to changes! I do wish the truck was bigger and that we started on time and ended with our sons dresser here. End of night I paid him $900 and feel like it was fair for both them and I as $600 sounded cheap and his original quote of $375 over the phone I knew wasn't right lol ,but the mans a go getter and went above and beyond with adding atv's and dune buggy to 2nd trip , and I can guarantee he would have done the whole move at his original quote if I was an ass about it , but he trusted the customer would do right by him at the end of the night. So I Salute Cruz Moves With The Following g Quote: It's Never Crowded Along The Extra Mile!

Erin was the office manager - she was outstanding with scheduling and particularly with communicating. She confirmed dates and times, and accommodated changes on my end necessary. She replied my messages quickly and got back to me with estimates which were spot on. She is a very pleasant person and easy to deal with. Even more importantly, Dante and Don carried on that professionalism when it came to the actual move. They communicated wonderfully on the day of the move, they told me when they were on their way, gave good estimate about their arrival, worked efficiently, had an attitude which just displayed their willingness to help. These were really nice gentlemen and handled my property with care. They made moving as affordable, easy, and pain-free as possible. I highly recommend them. Look no further and do yourself a favor: hire them.

I would highly recommend FCM for moving services. Although they were running slightly behind schedule to start the day, they proactively notified me of schedule changes so I could adjust my plans accordingly. From the moment they arrived, they worked hard to load up the truck quickly, and most importantly, carefully. The same applied to unloading the truck at my new apartment. The tight stairwell at my new apartment presented many challenges, however, FCM's persistence and creativity allowed them to navigate those challenges successfully, with little to no damage to the hardwood, or walls. They were very professional to work with, from start to finish.

I liked moving with Last Minute Moving and Storage. They were very nice and friendly. This was my first time using moving service and if I was moving again I would use this service again. They moved all of my stuff securely and they would help you with from packing, moving to even cleaning but you need to tell them before hand so that they can bring all the packing and cleaning stuff. Also, it's a good service if you don't have much time to plan your move as the name suggests Last minute Moving and Storage. But I feel the move could have been better if they had brought stuff for packing like tape, scissors, padding etc. I felt one of the worker was more active than the other. Also, please have cash handy or zelle app because they don't carry credit card machine.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What do moving companies do?

Moving companies provide a range of services to help you physically move out of one residence and move into a new place. But moving companies can do so much more than just haul your belongings across town in a truck. The national average for moving company prices ($250-$350 per hour) reflects the range of services provided. Here are examples of all the ways moving companies can help:

  • Packing: Moving companies can pack your belongings for you. They typically charge a flat rate for both the box and the labor to pack the box. The more time-consuming the belongings are to pack, the higher the cost per box. For example, books could be $5 per box, linens $10 per box, and fine china and glassware $18 per box.
  • Specialty moving: Safely move a baby grand piano, a oversize aquarium, or other specialty items with the help of pro movers.
  • Storage: Many moving companies can store your belongings while you wait for a new home to be remodeled or closing of your new home to be finalized. If you’re moving long-distance, they often provide short-term storage free for a specific length of time, and a set rate after that (such as $60 per square cubic foot of storage space used).
  • Long-distance moves: No need to rent a trailer and move your things; a long-distance moving company can haul your belongings across the country for you. Typically they charge by the cubic foot for moves, with prices based on your destination.
  • Unpacking: Moving companies can even unpack your belongings for you after they have moved them. This is not as common, and will definitely increase the price, but can be helpful if you’re not able to tackle this task yourself.

How much does a moving company charge per hour?

When you’re ready to make a major move, it’s time to research moving companies’ prices. A moving company may charge on average anywhere between $25 and $100 per hour, per worker, for moving services. The price will vary with regional labor rates, local cost to do business, and the level of service the movers are providing. Nationally, the average hourly rate for a moving company is $250-$350 per hour. This price includes a range of pricing, from all-in service with four or more movers on site to standard hourly rates for one or two movers. Other factors that affect moving companies’ prices are packing, stairs (or elevators), and distance. For a full-service move, you pay movers to pack your belongings for you. You may pay for the cost of the moving boxes and an hourly rate per worker, and there may be additional charges for packing fragile items. Stairs will also add to your moving prices. Lifting and carrying boxes and furniture up and down stairs takes more time and creates more physical labor for the workers. Moving companies may charge flat rates for flights of stairs, such as $50-$70 per flight. A moving company may also charge a one-time fee for moving things via elevator, such as $75-$100. If parking is not accessible in front of your home or apartment building, there may also be an additional fee for the added distance to carry your belongings to the truck.

How much should you tip furniture movers?

Moving furniture is hard work and potentially dangerous unless you’re properly equipped. For anyone not ready to handle their heavy oak armoire alone, professional furniture movers can safely and efficiently move your items to another room in your house or across town as needed. The national average cost to hire heavy furniture movers is $150-$200 per hour. This rate could include multiple furniture movers working as a team to move items such as beds, armoires, billiards tables, pianos, shelves, tables, entertainment centers and more. Hourly rates can vary by region. If your furniture movers have arrived on time, done a great job, kept your home and belongings protected from scratches and dings, and completed the move as planned, a tip will be greatly appreciated. Moving companies suggest approximately 10 percent of the total bill as gratuity for those doing local moving jobs, which is also a good guideline for tipping heavy furniture movers. If the total bill for heavy moving was $100 and two workers were onsite, consider giving them $10 total, or $5 each for a job well done.

How much does it cost for long-distance movers?

Long-distance movers transport your belongings across the country for you. No more renting a trailer and road-tripping from state to state with your entire house hitched to your bumper. Long-distance movers make the move happen so you can fly to your new home, suitcase in hand, and wait for your furniture to arrive. Nationally, the average price range for long-distance movers is $1,490-$2,230. The distance you are moving and the number of cubic feet the movers have to transport will both affect cost. Another factor in long-distance moving costs is whether you choose to pay for an exclusive move or a consolidated move.

In an exclusive move, which is more expensive, your belongings are the only cargo on the moving truck. The movers travel directly to your new house and deliver your belongings on a scheduled day. A consolidated move is more affordable because the movers transport your belongings along with those of other people, saving them time and gas — which means you save money. The downside is that your belongings typically arrive with a two-week delivery window rather than on a prescheduled day. Read reviews to make sure you can trust the company with your possessions to ensure a peaceful moving process.

How much does it cost to move a one-bedroom apartment across the country?

Professional movers can handle the hard work of moving your one-bedroom apartment across the country for you. You can determine what your move will cost by learning the rate your movers charge per cubic foot and how they factor distance into the total cost. Cross-country movers typically charge based on your belongings rather than apartment size because that determines how much work they will have to do. For example, a studio apartment that is crammed full of things will take more work and moving truck space than the contents of a three-bedroom apartment with very little furniture.

Cross-country movers may also have varying rates, depending on where in the country you are moving. For example, a company may charge $5 per cubic foot for consolidated moves along the East Coast and $6 per cubic foot for consolidated moves from the East Coast to the central states or the West Coast. A one-bedroom apartment costs approximately $1,500 to move across the country.
