Introduction: Each and every job I do is done as if the item were my own. I put a great deal of time and effort into any job I take and don't consider the job done until the customer is completely satisfied. I take pleasure in returning a piece which looks tired and worn to the condition it once was. To be able to have a client see a finished piece which has been restored to the way they remember it has always been one of the best parts of doing this work.

I had the cane replaced on the back of two dining room chairs and the cane repaired on another one. The finished products were beautiful. Jim also repaired and replaced all the loose screws on the chairs. The chairs are over 40 years old and now look brand new. It was a pleasure dealing with Jim and I would highly recommend him for any furniture repair/restoration project. Excellent work!

We were referred to Jim's Furniture Restoration by a local furniture expert, and Jim recaned an close to antique desk chair for us. We had been looking for a long time for someone to fix this chair for us, and we were very happy to find Jim. Jim took great care in appraising the chair and using the right materials, and he was very responsive time-wise. We thought his pricing was very reasonable, and plan to have another chair repaired by him.

What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?
I charge $4.00 per hole do replace hand woven caning. Count the number of holes around the perimeter of the caned area. I charge $6.00 per inch to replace prewoven or pressed caning. Measure the largest dimension of the caned area. I charge $7.00 per inch to replace rush. Measure the largest dimesnion of the rushed area. Materials are additional, usually $20-$25 for the average chair.
What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
I show them photos and in some cases actual samples of my work. I refer them to my customer reviews so they can see what other clients think of the quality of my work. Finally, I provide them with an accurate estimate as to the cost and time necessary to complete the work.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have been doing caning and rushwork for about 35 years. I am self taught.
