- What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)? Here is a general pricing guideline according to most common jobs i do: Men’s and Women’s pants Hem pants, jeans: $10 Cuffs:$15 Hem with lining: $15 Reattach original jeans hem: $15 Reattach jeans Neiman Marcus style: $25 Pant and jeans zipper replacement : $15 Take-in or out waist of men’s pants: $15 Take-in waist of women’s pants at hips: $20 Taper leg men’s or women’s: $20 Bridesmaids and wedding dresses Hem bridesmaids dress: $40 and up Hem wedding dress: $60 and up Pricing varies as far as what type of job needs to be done. The most common one we get is to hem a brides maids dress. That starts at $40 for one or two layers and goes up depending on how many additional layers are on the dress, like tulle or a lining. As for the body of the dress, that also depends on how the dress is structured, whether we have to remove and add a zipper and if there is boning present. That ranges from $40 to $100.
- What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?I apprenticed under a master dressmaker/pattern maker for over 10 years. She has over 50 years experience. For little over a year I’ve been working at Neiman Marcus as a tailor, doing, what my boss called the other day, precision sewing. I work with dozens of master tailors who collectively have over a thousand years worth of experience combined.
- How did you get started doing this type of work?I opened up a dressmaking shop, now dedicated to tailoring, with my mom 10 years ago.
