FAQs
- What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?
An hourly rate for repair jobs that take under 4 hours. Such as, grout and caulking bathrooms that take 2 to 3 hours to complete, not that complicated. I would charge a lower hourly rate. A job requiring more time or more skills or both such as replacing plumbing parts, hanging a chandelier, hanging large doors (patio door) or windows. I would charge a higher rate. At times I'll give a client an estimate based on estimated time and materials plus difficulty.
- What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I'm close to retiring. Almost out the door. There are a few things I still learn about repairing things like appliances, plumbing and light fixtures.
- How did you get started doing this type of work?
To supplement my income at first. I had management jobs for 30 years. 20 of those years was working afternoon shift. So, in the morning, I would do handyman stuff until it was time to start my second job. Eight years ago, the company did away with my shift, so I got my contractors license and insurance. I always liked working with my hands, fixing things. Being creative.
