Introduction: I am trained in the techniques of cooking, and have been highly rated for years and have many students who have come back to my classes as many as 5 times and gone on repeated tours with me. My weekend and week long classes have been rated the "Best in the US" by both "BonAppetit" magazine and Gayot.com. I work to give each student the best set of culinary skills and have lots of fun doing it. I prefer hands-on small classes and love what I do. I have been teaching cooking most of my life--over 30 years!! My bare minuimum fee is $250 or if more than one--$150 per person. The excitement people get when they learn new skills and flavors.

I consider myself a decent cook and even teach some classes myself on occasion. Over the years, I have attended several cooking classes and different schools to improve my cooking knowledge and skills. My experience at Jane Butel’s School tops them all. First of all Jane is a genuinely interested in helping her students learn. She is extremely knowledgeable about Southwestern and Mexican cuisine and shared the history of the dishes we prepared. The recipes are understandable and the class is totally hands on with Jane and her assistant, Liz, guiding and demonstrating techniques as we prepared many dishes throughout our weekend class. All the equipment and ingredients we needed were readily accessible. Cooking with Jane is like cooking with your best friend. While we worked steadily throughout our time together, we shared a lot of conversation, laughter and even a glass of wine or two as we prepared and then feasted on the fantastic foods we created. The experience exceeded my expectations and I look forward to cooking with Jane again sometime down the road. If you have an interest in learning about food, improving your cooking skills and having a lot of fun in the process, you need to schedule a class with Jane!

We had a really good time! Jane gave us hints to sharpen our cooking skills in addition to introducing us to some new recipes and great spices! It has been fun making fresh corn tortillas! They are really easy and so much better than store bought ones.

I recently took a two day cooking course with Jane Butel and was absolutely delighted. The lessons were very important to me, and expertly presented. Jane Butel herself I found to be a very charming and careing person, and most importantly an excellent chef, I sincerely wish to thank her for the marvellous experience and do hope to share with her and students another cooking class.

I recently attended Jane Butel's two day Baking workshop. What a treat it was! This was the second class of Jane's that I have attended, and it was as fun and informative as the first class. I know Jane has a fabulous reputation as an expert in southwestern cuisine, but did not know what a fabulous baker she is as well! The class provided many valuable tips (such as what type of flour is best for breads vs. pastries, etc) and many other baking secrets. We baked a range of products from hearth breads to pie crusts to speciality deserts. The hands on experience was so helpful - I am now looking forward to excuses to bake!

In February of this year, I took an excellent three-day cooking class from Jane Butel, with about four other people. We learned how to make a substantial number of traditional New Mexican dishes, and she accompanied the learning with interesting and helpful historical information that gave us valuable insight into why many things were done in a certain way. We all enjoyed her class, and I'm sure everyone of us has recommended her classes to others. It has given me the courage to confidently do some of the cooking and amaze my wife. It would require a dedicated lifetime to acquire the knowledge that she shared with us. Gratefully, Doug Edgar
