I waited to write a review so I could really give the training time for an honest review. I started working with Vigilant K9 Services in October 2016. I have a German Shepherd that had not responded to two previous trainers and did not have high expectations for Vigilant. I am so glad I gave it a chance and started working with Vigilant and Deb. Deb is a straight shooter, she tells you like it is, but without honest feedback from the trainer how could I effectively work/train my dog when Deb isn't around. What I learned is most problems lay with the owner, not the dog...I needed to know what I was doing wrong to help my dog be successful. Also, be prepared for homework. You need to put in the time. Deb can bring you back the most well behaved & trained dog, but you have to put in the time and effort to continue helping your dog succeed. A little background on my pup, Layla was 2.5 years when we started training, she was aggressive to most dogs and people. We walked her very early in the mornings and late at night to avoid interactions. Even then, walking her was a chore I dreaded. She pulled so hard that my shoulders were always sore from struggling to hold her back. After working with Deb, Layla now has a very good heel and we can walk at normal times without fear that Layla will act like a fool. Walks are now enjoyable! That's just one of the commands we've learned that made life so much easier. There's several others I could write about. Further, after a few weeks at board and train, Deb had some concerns about Layla. Layla's had a head tremor since we got her that our vet said was not something to be concerned about. Deb thought it could be neurological and a reason for her behavior. Sure enough, we took her to see a neurologist and Layla does have some neurological issues. There is nothing to be done for it, but at least we know the root of her behavioral issues. Deb quickly changed the training program to accommodate the issue. Knowing the issue allows us not to put undue pressure on Layla and her abilities, in turn saving our family a lot of frustration. After the last five months of working with Deb & Vigilant K9 Services and based on our family's experience, I can highly recommend them. It has been money and time well spent.
