Powerhouse provides value for the work performed, and they are flexible. Originally, we were going to refinish the floors in four rooms, but we discovered that we were happier with having one room refinished, and the other three rooms carpeted. The company was able to accommodate our desires. We dealt with nine different people associated with Powerhouse including people who analyzed the ability to * Remove squeaks without damaging underlying hardwood floors (not possible); * Floor refinisher; * Molding installers; * Estimate carpeting size; * Minimize the amount of carpeting to select; * Selecting the carpet that best fit our needs; * Purchasing carpet and padding (different vendors); * Carpet installation; * Cleaning; and * Moving heavy furniture, as needed. There were little things that needed to be adjusted, and Michael oversaw different crews who worked with us to make the required adjustments. Personnel were courteous, knew their business, kept appointments, and did neat work. Prices were reasonable. We will use them again. The following is not related to Powerhouse, but are two hints that may be useful to you: 1. If you refinish your floors, there is considerable smell from the varnish. If you leave wet coffee grounds in the room, and baking soda in a separate dish, it will help to absorb the smell. 2. I painted one of the rooms myself, and I found that using the new high-quality 3/8" nap rollers did not work as well as using Purdy rollers.

I hired Solis Building Services to clean my high end home. I am a landlord with numerous rentals ranging from a million dollar home to $400,000 properties in the Reno area. I recently had to evict a tenant who left this home in very bad condition. In fact, I am sure he never cleaned it in all the time he lived there with his 2 children. When I first saw how bad it was, I was very concerned that I might have to replace the stove and refrigerator, along with the shower doors. A no-nonsense crew of 2 women and 2 men, showed up at 7 am ready to work and within hours turned this hell-hole of a mess into absolute perfection. They worked hard and fast, but didn’t rush, cleaning 4 very filthy bathrooms and a kitchen from top to bottom. They scrubbed inside drawers, under cabinets, the oven and stove…the appliances looked brand new, and the refrigerator sparkled and no longer smelled of rotten food. The shower doors, that I thought might have to be replaced, looked like clear sparkling glass once again. Toilets looked brand new. White woodwork looked as if it had just been repainted. There was literally not one part of this entire 3000 square foot house that they did not touch and leave brand spanking clean afterwards. I was so impressed that I scheduled them to do all of the windows next week. I have been in the field of construction my entire life. I have a degree in Interior Design and have worked on multi million dollar homes in the Lake Tahoe/Reno area. Therefore, my training is in the details, looking for perfection, and in being very picky. I had my own cleaning business years ago, so I know how to clean a house the proper way. It is very hard for me to be satisfied with anyone’s workmanship, because I am very difficult to please. However, this cleaning crew made me very happy. They will be the crew I call for all of my homes in the future. They are professional, courteous, a pleasure to work with, they show up on time, ready to work, they don’t waste time talking, and their rates are very reasonable. In fact, I paid them extra because of all of the extra hard work they did on this property. Solis Building Services has been in business for many years, originally working for a large corporation in building maintenance. Therefore, they have great background experience in knowing how to clean. I highly recommend them.

I removed a dog door from the back of my house and it left a large 18"x 24" hole in my stucco. Desert Pine Builders patched, repaired and painted the stucco to match my house. They did a great job!

We hired John to retexture and paint our ceilings (after we had scraped the popcorn off ourselves). He and his partner did a great job and were really inexpensive compared to competitors prices. It was nice to find a contractor that is actually willing to take on a "small" job, whereas other companies are only interested in jobs for large homes and corporations. The only reason I didn't give him the full five stars is because it took them a day longer than they planned, but other than that we had a great experience. Very glad we found him and would definitely recommend!

Joseph did a paint job for our home. He was very friendly and offered helpful information. Since he has a background as a general contractor, he was able to fix other things at our home that needed attention, and he did this for a reasonable price. He did good work and we are happy we hired him for the job!

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How much do painters cost?

The national average cost for an interior painter ranges between $450 and $900. Interior painters can tackle everything from complete color makeovers in each of your rooms to touching up an accent wall to painting pieces of furniture. The square footage and complexity of the project, along with the materials needed, are the main factors that will affect cost. Other factors include whether you supply the paint yourself or want the painter to do so, whether you move the furniture and do the prep work or ask them to do it, and whether any repair work is needed on the walls. Painting the ceiling and the trim will also have an effect on cost. The type of paint you choose can also raise or lower your house painting cost. A gallon of paint may range from $20 to over $100, depending on quality and brand. Ask your painter if they charge per hour or per square foot, and how much you can save by doing prep work (moving furniture, etc.) yourself.

How much does it cost to paint the interior of a house?

Interior house painting costs are calculated on a few key factors. Nationally, interior house painting projects range from $200 to $2,500. The wide price range indicates how much square footage, paint selection and labor can affect cost. One pro uses a laser to measure each room, subtracting the size of the doors and windows, and then bases the quote on the square footage of the actual surfaces to be painted. Painters may provide you with savings if you opt to paint your entire home rather than just having one room or an accent wall painted. For example, the average house painting cost for an 8x12 room with 8-foot ceilings is roughly $200, when contractor-grade paint is used. Painting ceilings, baseboards and frames can also affect cost. Pros may charge per linear foot to smooth and paint baseboards. In one area pros might charge 50 cents per linear foot to paint baseboards, while pros in another part of the country could charge $1.50 per linear foot for the same task. Painters may charge flat rates for painting door and window frames, with one charging $20-$25 and another $60 per door. Geography and regional costs to do business play a major role in the cost of interior painting. The same painter in a rural region has less to pay in taxes, transportation, insurance and overhead than they would in a major city like New York.

How much does a painter charge per room?

The cost to paint a room will vary based on the size of the room, the type of paint you select, any ceiling or trim work needed, and any repairs needed. If no repairs or other additional work is needed, painting a room with contractor-grade paint could range from $1 to $2 per square foot, including materials. Selecting a luxury paint (some cost more than $100 per gallon) will certainly increase your house painting costs. Here are some additional examples of average house painting costs, per room:

  • 12x12 room with a 9-foot ceiling: about $125
  • 12x12 room with an 8-foot ceiling: about $100
  • 14x16 master bedroom with a 9-foot ceiling: about $150
  • 14x16 master bedroom with an 8-foot ceiling: about $125
  • 16x16 living room with a 9-foot ceiling: about $175
  • 16x16 living room with a 20-foot ceiling: starting at $225
