We found Michael on Thumbtack and went out on a limb and hired him for our wedding (we hadn't used Thumbtack before). We were glad we found him - everything was professional and timely. He delivered on all of his promises and wasn't the most expensive option (not the least expensive, though...). He was able to meet the special photography rules that the church had asked us to follow and he coached us throughout the reception on when and where to get great shots. He doesn't list his physical address, but he is licensed in Nevada: Business License - NV20151215225 A very pleasant and professional man to work with. I will hire him again if needed.

Evelyn successfully helped me to organize and run my wedding even with such short notice, and she did it in a very welcoming and polite and efficient manner! I called her up, asked for an appointment, made my deposit in person, discussed plans (including photography), and then I was all set! She also offered for me to get married at the wedding chapel located in a nice little building nearby, at no extra charge. The decorations and setup were lovely. Thank you for everything, Evelyn! =)

Michelle and a couple assistants did hair and make-up for my wedding. She did make-up and hair for 7 girls and it turned out beautifully! She was on-time, very organized and worked extremely hard. Her price was very reasonable too! Would definitely recommend!!

Malik and his crew went above and beyond to deliver a video full of special moments for our wedding. He wasn't in the way the day of the wedding yet was able to capture everything for us to remember. I would say the best skill Malik continues to approve upon is his detail to editing in post production. The way our video flowed was perfect. We continue to watch it each Anniversary. I would recommend Malik to shoot and produce your next event! He is truly talented and professional for his age!

Carol was amazing to have officiate our wedding. We were probably not the most responsive people to work with but without a rehearsal the ceremony went super smooth. Friendly, punctual and very helpful if you have no idea what a ceremony can consist of. Thanks again Carol!!!

Jenny did my sons Senior Portrait'sin 2011 and we could not have been happier! She captured the very essence of what we were looking for. Jenny is the most professional and excellent photographer I have ever had the privilege of working with. In 2010, Jenny was a guest at my wedding and she took the liberty of taking photos for us. Nit surprisingly her photos again were beyond what our expectations were and in hindsight I wish I would have hired her to shoot our wedding. Jenny's work has also graced the walls of our salon with photos taken to match the decor. I could not think of anyone I'd rather use or refer!

So let me tell you about Shane and his company. This is the BEST caterer I’ve ever had the pleasure of working with. He took my concerns, likes, ideas, interests, theme of my wedding, and his amazing love of food and created something spectacular that I don’t think could have been done by ANYONE else! He did a lot of small things that made it even better! Like the surprise of a 4 leaf clover in a locket in my bouquet! I was not expecting that and I love it :) it’s probably one of my favorite mementos from my wedding now <3 He also created a pine nut from something that I tried when I went to Seattle, just from the description! And it was SO GOOD! I’m really sad I didn’t get to eat more of the wonderful food :) I took some home to eat later lol I really truly highly recommend Shane and his company to anyone who is asking because he did catering, floral, and bartending!

I cannot say enough wonderful things about Billy. He was always available to answer any and all questions we had. He really got to know my husband and I as a couple and was able to incorporate what he knew about us into a beautiful and personal wedding ceremony. Billy did a great job of making us feel comfortable; his composure, professionalism, and his ability to keep things flowing exceeded our expectations! Everyone who attended our ceremony thought that Billy was warm, professional, and personable. I cannot thank him enough for making our day even more special.

He was the most amazing officiant we could have ever hoped for. He made our big day and our vows to each other truly special. He portrayed our relationship to our audience better than it felt like we even knew ourselves, which was truly magical. He put his heart and soul into writing our ceremony and every word he said showed it. We will forever be grateful to him for making our wedding ceremony perfect. I highly recommend him to anyone getting married. You'll feel like you've known him your whole life and will not be disappointed.

Michelle officiated at our daughter's wedding at The Art Institute in Chicago. Michelle used humor, anecdotes and family references to give the event just the perfect tone. Michelle's preparation and strength guided us all through this special day. The whole event was magical. (BTW, we didn't check the "Punctuality" button only because ALL officiants should be on time. The term I would prefer is the ceremony proceeded at the perfect "pace.")

Cassie photographed our wedding day and she did a fantastic job!! She took outdoor photos in the freezing December air and was such a trooper about it, with a smile on her face the entire time. She even brought handwarmers for my husband and I in case we got cold. She hung out with us from mid-morning until early evening and was so easy to work with, everyone loved her! Our photos turned out absolutely beautiful! I would definitely recommend Cassie to friends and family!

Paul is an amazing photographer! Our wedding photos are great quality. There are so many wonderful images. His eye and use of lighting is incredible! He arrived early to our venue to scope out great vistas. He stayed until sunset to capture sunset shots for us. We are truly grateful for his work! The only improvement I can suggest is the delivery of the photos. Paul used two different media sites to send us our proofs. The first one didn't work at all, and the second one posed a security threat online when downloading photos. My sister spent three hours working on her computer to remove a Trojan that was imbedded by the download process. Paul did send me a dvd with all the photos on it. That was much better than the media site. I am still waiting for the cd with the 6 final edits. He sent me the final 6 via the media site, but I will not use it. All in all we are extremely satisfied with Paul's work and I would highly recommend him to anyone! I would just insist on another delivery method for the photos.

My husband and I had everything for our wedding planned. The day before our big day the wedding minister was admitted to ER and was not going to be able to marry us. I was devistated, thinking I would have to postpone my big day with family already in town, I was in tears. My hubby to be started calling ministers and when we were just about to give up Dave Pappas answered the phone! He was so nice and comforting. He married us without a hitch and saved our big day. Many of the guests had no idea the drama that proceeded. I highly recommend Minister Dave Pappas. He made our big day really special.

I heard about Love and Lupines (the of course lovely, Meghon) from a friend at the gym... I was talking about what kind of flowers I was envisioning for my wedding and looking for a reasonable price too. She recommended Meghon and showed me some of her work and I knew instantly that I needed to contact her. I am so glad I did because she was amazing to work with! She asked me probing questions to help understand what I was looking for and dreaming about to help make our special day that much more special. And as a bride, you're already overwhelmed with so many details that you didn't even imagine you needed to know, and Meghon made it all seem so simple and easy! We talked through the design, the wedding party and families, and budget - and she managed to make it all work within our budget, even with last minute changes. I shared a few pictures that captured some of my ideas for the centerpieces, ceremony arch and aisle, bouquets, boutonnières and corsages... and they showed up on time on the big day and they exceeded my expectations!!! I received so many compliments and everyone was amazed how they turned out better than any pinterest wedding board could have captured. You need to work with her!

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What is a videographer and what do they do?

A videographer professionally films weddings and other events and edits the footage to create film keepsakes or marketing materials for their clients. Wedding videographers record all the key elements of your wedding day, ceremony and reception, and then edit the hours of film during post-production to make a wedding video, social media highlight reels, and any other film features you choose. Wedding videography captures, in live action, your vows, the cake-cutting, the first dance, reception toasts, the decor, the guests and all the details of your day. Many wedding videographers also interview guests (based on an interview list provided by the couple) and incorporate the recorded responses into the wedding video. Event videography typically costs less than wedding videography, as events are shorter with less detail. The national average cost for event videography is $500-$760, while the national average cost for wedding videography is $990-$1,260. A videographer usually does not need to be licensed, but it is important to confirm they have insurance and good standing in the business community, as well as good client reviews. A great majority of the work happens during post-production. The pros watch and blend together the hours of footage they took (sometimes from multiple cameras) to capture the story of your wedding day or event.

What is a wedding planner?

A wedding planner is a professional service provider whose job it is to organize and execute all the details of a couple’s wedding. A wedding planner can be contracted at any stage in the wedding planning process to help to any degree the couple is willing to pay for. Wedding planning is similar to event planning in that a planning team handles the coordination of multiple wedding elements including catering, venue, guests, entertainment, decor, transportation and more. Anyone who has ever been involved in a wedding can confirm that wedding planning is hard work. Experience brings wisdom when it comes to avoiding or resolving day-of challenges. There is no legal regulatory body that oversees or certifies wedding planning as an industry. Anyone who chooses can call themselves a wedding planner. When looking for a wedding planner, be sure to read reviews, and make smart hiring decisions by asking about licenses and insurance.

How do you choose a wedding videographer?

A wedding videographer will create a lifetime memory for you from edited video footage of your wedding day, ceremony and reception. Choosing a wedding videographer starts with looking online at portfolios of their past work. There’s no need to talk to anyone unless you love what you see. Next, make sure they have good reviews and past client experience; don’t be shy about asking for references if there aren’t any posted online. When you find someone who has a style you love, ask if they are available on your wedding day. If so, it’s time to talk pricing. Be clear about your maximum budget, and ask what kind of packages they offer. Pricing will depend on the number of crew needed for filming, the hours they are required to be onsite, post-production editing, and the length of the final product. Talk with several wedding videographers to get a feel for what prices are like in your region. Nationally, the average cost for wedding videography ranges between $990 and $1,260 per event. Once you agree on a product and have a plan, get everything in a written and signed contract. Clearly state the details of what is expected for your wedding day and from the final product. Be prepared to pay a deposit to reserve their services for the day, then pay the remainder upon receiving the video.

How much does it cost for a photographer for a wedding?

Finding the right wedding photographer can make a big difference for your ceremony. Nationally, the average wedding photographer’s price ranges from $800 to $1,000, but costs can be much higher in areas like Chicago, New York or Los Angeles where some couples spend $2,000 to $5,000 or more for the photographer they want. Factors that can affect your wedding photographer prices include the photographer’s reputation and experience. Heavy hitters can command top rates, especially during wedding-season weekends. Day of the week also affects your cost. You may get a $200 discount on wedding photographer prices if you get married on a Friday in November rather than a Saturday in June. Time onsite is also an important cost factor. Hiring a photographer to snap photos from the moment you wake up until after last call at the reception is going to cost more than five hours of pictures during the day. Multiple photographers, special lighting, and videography will also increase your costs. Ultimately you want to find someone who has a style you love and can provide the number of edited shots you want for a price you can handle. Learn more about hiring a wedding photographer.

What should you ask your wedding videographer before hiring?

Finding the perfect wedding videographer doesn’t have to be stressful. Asking a few key questions upfront will help you find the right fit for your big day. Before talking with wedding videographers, research their work online. Look at their websites, business profiles and social media, and see what their finished wedding videos look like. If the style fits what you’re envisioning, it’s time to reach out. During initial contact, make sure you get along with the person. This is important since they’ll be interacting with you and your guests.

Your first question should be about their availability; there’s no point in going further if they’re booked on your wedding day. Ask to see references if they’re not readily available online. Next, it’s time to talk about money. Ask how they determine rates or what kind of packages they offer. When you settle on a rate and the services you want, make sure to have a written contract that outlines everything, including cost, length of time they film, what post-production will include, and when you can expect to receive the edited project.

Hire skilled professionals for absolutely everything.
