After researching the different makeup and hair professionals in Las Vegas that specialize in African-American women makeup and hair I decided to go with Pin Up &go. Leigh was just awesome from the beginning with all the questions about her hair and make up f(I was concerned about the foundation matching up not looking to light) to the final end. She did the most beautiful job on both hair and makeup. My husband told her that she needs to come to Atlanta to show the makeup artist how to do my makeup. I must admit she did the dang-gone thing. If you all are looking for a makeup and or hair artist ladies please call Leigh you will not be disappointed.I cannot put enough words into this review as to how beautiful her work is.Thanks again Leigh.

This review is a little late - almost 2 years to be exact - but after just recently experiencing an absolutely horrifying makeup artist/hair stylist, I realized how important negative AND positive reviews can be when trying to make a decision with stylists you're unfamiliar with. Kiera was our makeup artist for my sister's wedding June 2013. Before our appointment, she had never seen us or had any idea of our makeup style. My mother has never had her makeup professionally applied and she was so ecstatic of the results - she felt 10 years younger and super confident. Kiera beautified my sister and myself to where we still looked like ourselves but with a little pazazz and without hardly any direction. She knew what colors would compliment us and she did an amazing job. We honestly could not have been any happier with the results and Kiera's fun-loving personality just made the experience unforgettable. The wedding was outdoors in 45 minutes from the strip in the desert (in June) and our makeup easily withstood the elements. With the activities of the day, my sister and I both passed out without washing our faces, and our makeup even lasted until the next morning without any obvious smudges or smears. Kiera is definitely your go to girl if you're looking for professional quality, someone with skills and a fun personality! You won't go wrong booking her as your stylist.

Amanda was the most professional and fun makeup artist I’ve ever hired. Not only did she do an amazing job, but she was sweet and was very knowledgeable on everything related to skin and makeup. I hired Amanda for a Halloween event, and the looks and compliments I got all night speaks highly of her work. I highly recommend Amanda’s service, because I am definitely going to book her again!!!

Makeup Artists are here to enhance the face of ladies with their creative skills. They play a pivotal role in the lives of people who desire to look like their favoured mood / look / icons . A Makeup Artist is usually credited for their flair for creating beauty. The Praiseworthy Katherine Sol Rodriguez is my fave because she has wooed many of my friends and myself with the magic of her artistic strokes. I met Kay in a SM Fashion show where her team had to do hair , make-up and grooming for 200 models . I was amazed with her versatility, aptitude and fortitude . On my next important party , i needed and wanted her to do my make-up. Kay , as i fondly call her is known in creating flawless, soft and natural beauty. Though when an event calls for extraordinary make-up , Kay can create a spectacular face . I have had melasma flare-ups at summertime when the sun triggers my pigmentation to be in its darkest patches . Only Kay can even out my skin tone with her inimitable strokes without looking heavily made up . She uses cosmetic products that are tear-resistant , kiss-proof and sweat-resistant .... Qualities i look for when i want to take the smallest purse for a spin at night ( no touch ups required ) For Kay working with shadow, light, colour and form is life. Her passion for all these combination has made her the most favoured make-up artist and mentor . I am excited for what the future holds for Kay .

Wanted to hire a make up artist for my best friend's bachelorette party in Vegas and came across Kristy. Best decision ever for our girls night out!! Kristy's work was outstanding! Because of our other expenses in Vegas we wanted to treat ourselves and not break the bank and Kristy worked with our budget with no hassle I cannot say enough how easy she made it for us. Working with a big group we had to change up our original meeting time, number of girls in our group and each time Kristy was accommodating and had the best customer service I could ask for. She came to our hotel at the exact time she said she would be there and was sooo easy going. We had a great time just hanging out with her getting ready. Our end result for make up was amazing. Each and every one of us had a different look. We didnt know what glam look we wanted for a night out but she would just look at us and come up with our look and were soo soo happy. If you need a great makeup artist while you're in Vegas for a special event/night out who will do great work for a great rate and have fun while you're getting your make up done,....get Kristy. Hiring her again next time we are back!

She took me step by step in the process of beautification. Prep, prime, and the make up look. She made me feel pampered with the first step, skin care, and even recommended products for my facial needs for a great refreshed base for make up application. For the make up application, she explained each step and exactly what she is doing with you so you can replicate the look at home, which I think is great because the live tutorial has helped me so much improve on my skills. I enjoyed the whole experience and gained more knowledge in the process. She's a great make up artist and a great person as well.

Luisa is, bar none, the best make-up artist I have ever worked with. She was extremely professional, arriving early and well prepared for the job at hand-zombie make-up for my group of five. She took her time doing each person's makeup, making sure that every face she touched was left looking different and unique while blending in well with their individual features. When she was finished we were a group of perfect zombies! Knowing that I have sensitive skin, she made sure to brief me on how to thoroughly remove my makeup. She even gave me products from her own personal supplies to help with this! Job well done Luisa! You have a client for life!

I hired the True Virtue Team to get Myself and 12 of my bridesmaids ready. 4 artist showed up 30 min before start time to set up. It was like an army of talent was there to make my day amazing. Every single one of us looked phenomenal at the end and the special attention Rebecca and Dee gave me, well if it weren't for them I would have become a Bridezilla that day with some hiccups that popped up. They gave me an appreciation bag to add to my experience and all the makeup they used on me was in there with some extra goodies. True Virtue team are all so attentive and truly masters of their craft. I highly recommend them to anyone looking for wedding or anything of the makeup sorts. Professional, friendly and just overall great people.

    Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How much do wedding makeup artists cost?

A wedding means love, celebration and tons of wedding photos. Professional wedding makeup artists have you looking your best on your big day and forever after in your wedding photos. The national average cost for a wedding makeup artist is $70-$100, although this price can increase based on your location, the extent of the makeup services and the reputation of the makeup artist. Most wedding makeup artists offer discounts to brides who book group services for their maids, mothers and flower girls at the same time. Wedding makeup artists who also do wedding hair usually offer package rates for hair and makeup combos. Here are some examples of average wedding makeup pricing:

    • Bridal makeup: $85-$125. Pricing often includes full face, eyes, lips, brows and false eyelashes. Airbrush makeup may be an additional $20 or more.
    • Bridal hair and makeup: $150-$200.
    • Bridesmaid and bridal party makeup: $50-$100 per person.
    • Bridesmaid hair and makeup: $100-$150.
    • Flower girl makeup: $25-$35.
    • Trial sessions: $60-$120, depending on the makeup artist. Some charge their full rate and others charge a partial rate for trial makeup services.
    • Hourly rates to stay on and keep makeup touched up throughout reception: $35-$75 per hour.
    • Travel fees: 50 cents to $1 per additional mile beyond a set radius — such as 50 miles.

Do I need a makeup artist for my wedding?

There are no rules around your wedding day, and that means it’s your choice whether to have a wedding makeup artist. If you’re on the fence about hiring a wedding makeup artist, consider the pros and cons. Some women decide against a wedding makeup artist to save money. The national average cost for a wedding makeup artist is $70-$100, which is an expense some women prefer to do without. Other women just don’t love wearing makeup. Some brides have friends or family members who are talented makeup artists willing to provide their services. If you choose not to have a wedding makeup artist, be sure to do at least two trial runs of your makeup look well before the wedding day to avoid any morning-of panic.

On the other hand, a wedding makeup artist can make the bride feel pampered and confident, giving her a flawless, fabulous look for the ceremony and reception and in wedding photos. For brides who are uncomfortable with heavy makeup, many wedding makeup artists usually excel at the natural look. Many brides consider wedding makeup part of the ritual and tradition of the ceremony, a shared experience with the entire bridal party. Ultimately your choice of whether to hire a wedding makeup artist should be based on what will make you feel most confident and happy.

How do you choose the right makeup artist for your wedding?

A wedding makeup artist can ensure a flawless look on your big day. Finding the perfect person isn’t all about price, though. Here are tips for choosing the right makeup artist for your wedding:

    • Research before reaching out. Wedding makeup artists should have an online presence with portfolios of their work. Find someone with an aesthetic you love.
    • Read reviews. You want a wedding makeup artist who’ll be on time, do beautiful work, and add a positive vibe to your day. Pay attention if previous clients report bad experiences with a makeup artist.
    • Consider skin tones. If your bridal party has a range of skin tones, make sure your wedding makeup artist and assistants are experienced and talented working with everyone.
    • Is your top pick available on your date? If so, put down a deposit to secure their services.
    • Confirm rates and payment. Clearly discuss prices and payment plans, and sign a detailed contract so there are no surprises on your wedding day.

How much should you tip a wedding makeup artist?

Wedding makeup artists ensure you and your bridal party are looking your best bright and early on your wedding day. Tipping a wedding makeup artist for their hard work is standard practice, and is also greatly appreciated. A tip of 15 percent to 20 percent of the total bill is appropriate. You may consider tipping extra if the makeup artist or someone on their team went above and beyond — for example, squeezing in Aunt Martha at the last second or redoing a flower girl’s hair free of charge after she dunked it in the fountain.

A gratuity is a reflection of a job well done, so if the wedding makeup artist was late, did a shoddy job or didn’t provide all the services you negotiated, you are not required to tip. Talk with your wedding makeup artist prior to the event to ask how they prefer payment and gratuity to be handled. Can you pay by credit card the day of the event and include a tip then? Do you need to pay in cash the day of the event? Find out ahead of time how to manage payment for services so you can be prepared with cash or credit cards as needed. Even better, delegate the task of payment to someone in your bridal party so you can just enjoy your day.

Hire skilled professionals for absolutely everything.
