Mike was incredible! If you got other quotes from Thumbtack, stop looking Mike is your guy. My grass was dying because the sprinklers were either not working properly or needed to be changed. He found four leaks in my drip lines that I didn't even know about! FOUR!!! He fixed them all. I have to mention that I have 70 trees in my backyard and a lot of bushes. Some of my trees were not even getting water at all. Not anymore! Mike went above and beyond what I was expecting. He likes his job and takes it very seriously. He was on time every time he said he would come over and honor his word. He is extremely professional and fun! Hire Mike if you are looking for a pro who will fix your irrigation issues quick and at a very great price. Mike thank you for everything.

Oct 18, 2016: After a large "Dollar" tree was blown down due to the recent days of high winds, I researched "Thumbtack" and "Yelp," for a highly rated tree service. At 9 am I posted my request and within 15 minutes, Mario, the owner of MBA Landscaping responded. I sent him pictures of the 40 foot fallen tree and he gave me a quote. Ordinarily, I don't go with the first quote, but Mario said he was willing to come out within 2 hours and give me an accurate assessment of what needed to be done. Mario arrived on time and with another crew member. He correctly pointed out that my other Dollar tree, also needed to be removed, before it caused damage to my neighbors house. Because Mario was so professional in his approach and did not try to push the sale, he gained a level of trust where I felt comfortable. I examined his truck and equipment and it was all top notch. Mario obviously knew his business that he has been a part of since the age of 17, and took pride in being the owner of MBA for over 5 years. After he explained everything that needed to be done and heard my concerns, he gave me a fair quote. Not the lowest or the highest, but fair considering all that needed to be done. Mario and his crew member started work immediately and did not stop for over two hours. He explained that he would come back the next day to finish the job. Promptly at 9 am Mario and his crew showed up and worked straight through to its completion. All my landscaping lights and irrigation system worked properly, and he gave me some good landscaping advice for future maintenance. The finished job looks great! What also impressed me was that during the tree removal process, some small limbs & branches landed in my neighbors yard. Mario made an effort to clean up their backyard as well. You can probably tell that I am a very satisfied customer and would highly recommend Mario and his company MBA Landscaping, for your tree service and landscaping needs! Thanks Mario!

We needed someone to bring this 10 year old palo verde tree down in height... it was way too tall and hung over the fence into the neighbor's yard. It needed to be shortened, thinned and shaped. Our current landscaping company used to be able to trim/thin it to our satisfaction but the tree has gotten so tall that they are unable to do much anymore. So I did an internet search for experienced tree trimmers and discovered Thumbtack as a resource. The first contractor I called out said the tree could not be trimmed/topped, that it would most likely die, so we should remove it and plant a new tree. I was so unhappy with that proposal that I decided to get a second opinion. Limb It Less had also responded to my Thumbtack request, so I reached out to them. The same day we connected on Thumbtack Brandon came out to take a look and provided a quote for the job. With confidence he told us he could bring the tree height down 6-8 feet and thin it out. That same day we received his official proposal for the job via Thumbtack, which we accepted online. An appointment was set, his team showed up the next week as scheduled and they did a fantastic job. The upper level of the tree was cut and shaped by an experienced tree climber who used proper rigging to complete the job in a safe manner. All the limbs, debris, etc were put into their grinding machine and hauled away. Overall we were very happy with their work and will use them in the future to keep this lovely tree under control.

We had a mess of a yard and needed desperate help with ideas. Blas listened carefully and even after I made a change (or 6) he worked hard to keep our costs in check and project on time. Our entire family (including 2 mastiffs and a teenager!)love the new fireplace, trees, planters and stonework. Thank you Blas and crew!

And I couldn't be happier with Bob experience in cutting down a tree for me. He was very professional and courteous. He had the tree down in no time at all. And cleaned up the mess. Next month on this month I'm going to have them chop down another palm tree. Wouldn't hire anyone else. Richard Kearnes

ProGreenLand and Mr. Saul have cared for our lawn, trees and shrubs for over 6 years. We live overseas - our Vegas home was vacant at times and is now rented, so we have not been present to monitor Mr. Saul and his teams. And, we NEVER had to monitor him. Mr. Saul and his staff are responsible, skilled, foresighted and reasonably priced. The teams see what actions need to be taken and they execute. Mr. Saul's ideas and suggestions are always for the best of the lawn. We highly recommend ProGreenLand and Mr. Saul.

Carlos Macias has been taking care of my family's yard in Las Vegas for years. It's been over 3 years since a family member has lived in the house. It has been leased to tenants during this time. Retaining CM Grow Green for the yard maintenance has been a blessing. Whenever I am contacted by the tenant, property manager or the Community Association about any yard maintenance issues, a call to Carlos to investigate. He takes care of it all for me. This relationship has allowed for me to keep this property maintained without me having to travel from California to Nevada to deal with those type of maintenance issues. Anything from tree trimming to irrigation systems repairs have been done along with the scheduled maintenance. Thank you Carlos. CM Grow Green is appreciated! Nick

We chose Sunscape because they listened to what we wanted. I gave them an idea and they made it come alive. We had an overhaul done on the backyard with new design, curbing, rocks, trees , lighting & synthetic grass. The workers were very professional and hard working. The end result was amazing. We spend so much time outside now and the kids & dogs love it. Only company I will ever use!

The company was very thorough and honest. Gave me great advice on taking care of trees in the future. He could have made more money by trimming one of my trees that I had questions about, but was honest and told me to wait until next year on it. They cleaned up and hauled everything away and were very careful of my plants and flowers while trimming the trees.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What does a landscape contractor do?

Landscape contractors work from outdoor architectural or design plans to build and install hardscaping or softscaping for the client, much as a general contractor uses architectural designs to build a house. Landscape contractors are experts in soil drainage, grading, hardscaping (installing concrete paths and retaining wall, building ponds, etc.), and planting. They have heavy equipment such as excavators and tractors to prepare the land as needed.

Some landscape contractors are also landscape architects or landscape designers. The titles can be compared with those in home construction: A building or landscape architect must earn a specialized architecture degree and pass an exam to have a license. A designer — whether an interior designer or a landscape designer — does not usually require a license to work. Landscape contractors are not required by law to work from plans designed by a landscape architect, so you may work directly with the landscape contractor to specify the work you’d like done. The national average cost for large-scale landscaping projects is $10,160. Pricing can vary greatly depending on the project scope, materials and design.

How do you find a good landscape architect?

Hiring a landscape architect is an investment in your home. Landscaping can reduce water bills, improve your home resale value, add to your daily living experience and significantly boost curb appeal. A landscape architect will draw the designs for your new landscape; you’ll want to hire a landscape contractor to carry out the plans. Many companies provide design-build landscaping services, with a company architect creating plans for your vision and the landscape contractor executing the vision. With the proper academic background and licensing, a person can be both landscape architect and landscape contractor. Here are a few tips for finding a great landscape architect:

  • Research online portfolios and find several landscape architects whose work interests you.
  • Read online reviews of client experiences.
  • Research whether the landscape architects you are interested in are currently licensed and in good standing with the licensing board, and check whether any complaints have been issued against them. Each state will have their own searchable database. For example, you can search for California landscape architects via the state’s Department of Consumer Affairs.
  • Request bids from your selected landscape architects.
  • Hire the one you like the most, taking care to have a clearly written contract outlining scope of work.

What should you look for when hiring a landscaper?

Landscaping can be costly — though it usually pays off in curb appeal and home resale value — so finding a landscaper who is worth the investment is important. When hiring a landscaper, look for proven success with the type of results you want. For example, if you know you want a drought-tolerant yard, research websites, reviews and portfolios that showcase beautiful drought-tolerant yards that the landscaper has installed. In addition to relevant experience, you’ll want to find a landscape contractor who has good client reviews. Good communication skills are another important quality in a landscape contractor, since everything from plant selection to hardscape installation needs to be discussed and agreed upon. A landscape contractor who is reliable, easy to understand and able to listen to what you want will help make the process seamless and enjoyable.

Hire skilled professionals for absolutely everything.
