FAQs
- What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
Part of the requirement for re-certification, which is generally every two years depending on the organization, is to have a certain amount of continuing education credits. Unfortunately, a lot of these courses are out-of-date and are just recycled by the certifying entity with the purpose of generating revenue. With very little choice on these items, I pick and choose between what's available in hopes that it will be beneficial. However, in addition to this requirement, I am constantly taking courses and doing research on the latest science in nutrition and fitness; and it doesn't stop there. Many hours are spent in the studio developing and testing new and different techniques in order that the programs I design for each client are customized for their individual needs.
- How did you get started doing this type of work?
In the process of working through my own journey of strength training and diet, I began to get excited about my health once I started to see results. Over time, this excitement grew into a passion as I saw that "it was possible" for someone like me -- fat, depressed and defeated -- to move beyond those things and become better for it. Once I knew that "I could do it," I wanted to help others who found themselves in the same place I once was. That set me on a path to where I am today, helping a wide variety of people, with different body shapes and types, to be better and to feel better about themselves!
- What types of customers have you worked with?
Strength N Speed Fitness is NOT geared toward what's known in the industry as the "Gym Rats." These are individuals that train exclusively, and sometimes professionally, for all-out body-building. They are normally in the gym every day, for hours on end. The bigger-the-better! My training emphasis includes but is not limited to: 1) Functional Fitness Training - helps you perform at your best while doing your every day activities and protects you from injury. 2) Body Transformation - builds and defines the muscles, transforms your body from what it is, to what you want it to be. This may include losing weight, gaining weight, or shifting weight. 3) Sports Nutrition - as a Certified Sports Nutrition Specialist I can educate you on what it takes to live a healthy eating lifestyle. This will include proper nutrition to support the addition of physical activity, strength training, and muscle development. 4) Golf Fitness - Certified as both a Golf Fitness Specialist and a Golf Fitness Trainer, and working hand-in-hand with professional golf-swing instructors, I will train your body to be the best it can be in regards to supporting your golf swing. This is "totally" different from functional fitness training and especially body-building. While functional fitness is included in the specific training, as well as transformation, the techniques, equipment, and exercises are geared towards the kinetic sequence of the swing. This type of training is not exclusive to golf, but can be altered to include any sport with a swinging action, e.g., baseball, softball, lacrosse, tennis, racquetball, etc.
