Sean and company did touch-up paint work for me in one of my properties as I prepared to rent it. They also repainted a bathroom in another property and cleaned out the gutters that were blocking the flow of rain to the downspouts. Very satisfied with the work on both properties, and prices were reasonable. He worked quickly, finished when he said he would and called with updates. I have multiple properties and considering using this company for other projects in the future. Great work and fast service. Thanks so much! Ursula

Prior to putting our home on the market, we needed quite a bit of fix-it work and interior painting in all 11 rooms in our 163-year-old house in Pittsfield. From the moment Jim stepped through the front door, we were impressed not only with his professionalism, but with his taking the time to explain exactly how he would go about each fix-it project. The quote came and was more than fair for the amount of work involved. Jim was thorough and meticulous in the execution of each project and was flexible and accommodating when many of the projects uncovered more work that needed to be done or when we added additional projects. He never lost his sense of humor and he never gave up on us. In one month, he totally transformed our home from tired and worn to fresh and beautiful. He did such an amazing job, that the house sold in just 18 days. Jim's work ethic is remarkable, especially for the Berkshires. We can't think of anyone else we've worked with over the years who would not have abandoned the project at some point along the way. He really pulled through for us when three days before the first open house, he uncovered a soaking wet, rotted sub-floor in one of our bathrooms. He put his head down, worked round the clock to fix it, and installed beautiful new flooring. We are so incredibly grateful to Jim (and Heather, too, who made the house sparkle -- and miraculously got rid of a stubborn bathtub rust ring that had been there for years!) We would hire Precision Home Care in a heartbeat at any time for any project and highly recommend that you do too!!

Erik agreed to take on a huge job--painting the interior of an entire house, refinishing the floors, and taking care of a long list of repairs that were needed to get the house ready for a tenant. He was completely reliable, had very high standards, brought in wonderful people to help him, and got the job done beautifully and on time. He is also a very kind person, who anyone would enjoy working with. Highly recommended!

D&D Construction painted the exterior of my house, which had not been painted in nearly 15 year and needed a lot of special care. The owner Brian DeJoy and his crew were excellent- start to finish ... Professional , focused and friendly. The project started on time, Brian addressed all my questions promptly, the crew was careful and protected my extensive gardens around the house, and the project was completed on time. The work area cleanup was done each day, all the chips and splatters! I believe the project cost was fair and reasonable. Superior performance!

We hired Adrian with Mala Construction through Thumbtack. He responded quickly, visited the house and provided an estimate promptly. He was able to repair damaged ceilings and walls, as well as paint the entire interior of the house within just four days. The quality of the work is outstanding. He protected floors, furnishings and cleaned up after the job perfectly. He provided updates and photos of the work throughout the project which was helpful since owner was out of town. He also repaired a damaged door for us. I'd recommend him highly to anyone. Mary Ann B., Albany, NY

James did a great job making my storm door and interior front door work correctly. He also touched the trim up, reattached things that I had taken down and just simply went above and beyond. He was prompt, trustworthy and an honest man. It's great to meet someone that I can trust. I highly recommend James.

I had the entire interior of my house painted, while I was living in it. I worked during the day, and the work was done while I was at work. Ray Holden worked around my schedule and I was able to relax every night after work. Fantastic job! VERY happy with the workmanship. House looks beautiful & bright! Wow! While doing the job, Ray noticed extra flaws and gave me the option of doing just what I asked or fixing the flaws for a quality job. I opted for the extra work and very happy with the final results. Thorough & quality work. No shortcuts. While doing the work, Ray pointed out a structural defect that would need attention at some point. So I have hired him to check out the structural problem and another smaller project. Very reliable, easy to communicate with, upfront about the job, very professional in personal manner & workmanship!!!

Glenn Packard's company has done excellent work for us. These projects included a major structural alteration to our house, a significant repair/alteration to a section of our roof, and maintenance, painting, and staining of both the interior and exterior of the house. Not only was all of this work performed in a timely way, and at the price given, but Glenn also has in each case taken extra little detailed steps that really make a difference. Our property is somewhat unusual as it is seasonal, and we're extremely impressed as well with the durability and high quality of the work--it stands up very well against the elements even though there's nobody around to look after things. Alpha-Omega is the only contractor we'll contact for future work.

Jen and Rich are by far the best painters I have ever used. They have completed a few projects in my home and I have a few more lined up for the winter. They are clean, efficient and do a beautiful job in addition to the fact that they have a great personality and I trust them implicitly!

Mr. Reis is highly skilled at all aspects of home renovation, from structural repairs to cosmetic finishes and everything in between. In our old house he has replaced beams, installed a new bathroom, insulated and installed new walls and ceiling in two bedrooms, trued a sagging roof and installed new slate tiles, and painted interior and exterior walls -- all with great efficiency and results. He is unfailingly honest, listens to our wishes, and is not afraid to suggest improvements. A real pleasure to work with.

Terri was prompt, transparent and did very professional work. We appreciated in particular her attention to detail, which was very important to us for our interior painting project in an old house with a lot of intricate woodwork. She completed the job in exactly the time frame she promised and left no traces (other than the excellent paint job) once she was done. We very highly recommend her.

I originally hooked up with Patty for the cleaning project, and she mentioned that she would also help me paint. Because she's had almost 2 decades of union painting experience, I accepted her offer. She has exceeded my expectations. Fast, efficient, clean; great work ethic that is hard to find today. Not only will I hire again for any painting projects, but if I know of anyone who needs a painter, I'll recommend her. She will also help me pack up so I can quickly move into the house she just painted.

            Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

            How much do painters cost?

The national average cost for an interior painter ranges between $450 and $900. Interior painters can tackle everything from complete color makeovers in each of your rooms to touching up an accent wall to painting pieces of furniture. The square footage and complexity of the project, along with the materials needed, are the main factors that will affect cost. Other factors include whether you supply the paint yourself or want the painter to do so, whether you move the furniture and do the prep work or ask them to do it, and whether any repair work is needed on the walls. Painting the ceiling and the trim will also have an effect on cost. The type of paint you choose can also raise or lower your house painting cost. A gallon of paint may range from $20 to over $100, depending on quality and brand. Ask your painter if they charge per hour or per square foot, and how much you can save by doing prep work (moving furniture, etc.) yourself.

How much does it cost to paint the interior of a house?

Interior house painting costs are calculated on a few key factors. Nationally, interior house painting projects range from $200 to $2,500. The wide price range indicates how much square footage, paint selection and labor can affect cost. One pro uses a laser to measure each room, subtracting the size of the doors and windows, and then bases the quote on the square footage of the actual surfaces to be painted. Painters may provide you with savings if you opt to paint your entire home rather than just having one room or an accent wall painted. For example, the average house painting cost for an 8x12 room with 8-foot ceilings is roughly $200, when contractor-grade paint is used. Painting ceilings, baseboards and frames can also affect cost. Pros may charge per linear foot to smooth and paint baseboards. In one area pros might charge 50 cents per linear foot to paint baseboards, while pros in another part of the country could charge $1.50 per linear foot for the same task. Painters may charge flat rates for painting door and window frames, with one charging $20-$25 and another $60 per door. Geography and regional costs to do business play a major role in the cost of interior painting. The same painter in a rural region has less to pay in taxes, transportation, insurance and overhead than they would in a major city like New York.

How much does a painter charge per room?

The cost to paint a room will vary based on the size of the room, the type of paint you select, any ceiling or trim work needed, and any repairs needed. If no repairs or other additional work is needed, painting a room with contractor-grade paint could range from $1 to $2 per square foot, including materials. Selecting a luxury paint (some cost more than $100 per gallon) will certainly increase your house painting costs. Here are some additional examples of average house painting costs, per room:

            • 12x12 room with a 9-foot ceiling: about $125
            • 12x12 room with an 8-foot ceiling: about $100
            • 14x16 master bedroom with a 9-foot ceiling: about $150
            • 14x16 master bedroom with an 8-foot ceiling: about $125
            • 16x16 living room with a 9-foot ceiling: about $175
            • 16x16 living room with a 20-foot ceiling: starting at $225
