I hired Ray Collazo owner of Brightspot Painting to paint my kitchen cabinets. I started out wanting the cabinets stained, then decided to paint them brown, and ended out painting them (as per Rays’s suggestion) a beautiful creamy white. The cabinets came out absolutely gorgeous! The white color made my kitchen look brighter, more spacious, crisp and clean. I am so pleased with the final result. Ray is a wonderful person; a hardworking, patient, friendly, skilled painter who really enjoys his job! He takes much pride in his company and work. He treats his clients like family! I have recommended him to my friends and neighbors. Many thanks to Ray at Brightspot Painting for a job well done!

I hired Karen without any prior knowledge of her or any recommendation, but was very impressed as soon as I met her. She was also very flexible and worked around my schedule, as I needed to postpone her work for a few weeks. Karen did a beautiful job wallpapering and painting the trim in our family room. She is clean, thorough, and meticulous. Karen completed the job within the timeframe given, and she was also willing to complete some additional work. I am very pleased with the outcome. Karen is personable, professional, and responsible. She answered her phone the very first time I called, and always maintained contact with me by returning phone calls or emails. I highly recommend her if you are looking for someone to paint and/or wallpaper.

I had Blue Sky Painting paint two houses for me in Dec 2016 and Jan 2017. They are professional, clean, reasonably priced, and did a great job on two very large projects. They showed up when they said they would, they did what they said they were going to do, and obviously take pride in what they do. Highly recommended.

Jim beat the other two estimates by $300.00. First rate. Jim will travel too, as he was out in Marion recently. Best of all, Jim & his brother took on my garage interior painting (primer & 2 finish coats) project promptly, or I would have had to wait for the other estimate for months. Definitely give Jim a chance to bid, to save you $.

First off I need to say how happy I am that I found Daryl’s name on thumbtack while searching for a painter. I had recently closed on a house and needed to repaint every room and ceiling, many of which had wallpaper on them, in order to rid the house of smoke odor from the previous owners. I knew from the second I met Daryl that he was they guy I would hire. He told me exactly what he was going to do, what it cost, and how he came up with the figure. Daryl and his crew did an outstanding job removing the wallpaper, patching and sanding the walls, and the painting was flawless. Daryl truly went above and beyond and his work transformed my new home. And to top it all off, he beat all the competitors price by a 1/3! Daryl is truly a master painter and I would (and have!) highly recommend him to anyone in need of a professional painter.

I finally found an amazing handyman/painter. I have hired painters in the past only to regret every dollar spent. Jarad's work was phenomenal. His response was prompt and he showed on time not just for the estimate but for the job itself. I can't say enough about the quality of his work. He paid such attention to detail. I had my family room painted which included ceiling, walls and trim. Some of the trim was stained wood and had never seen paint. The window sills were in bad shape, gouged, scratched, and 27 years of weathering. I actually wondered if they should be replaced. I don't know how he did it but they look like new. They are filled in, filled out sanded and painted. Unbelievably amazing!! The walls, the ceiling, ALL the trim work as well as the cutting in; everything looks amazing. I won't use anyone else from now on. I never thought the room could look so nice. The phrase, you get what you pay for is an understatement. I got more!!

Timothy is very experienced. It turned out that my project was a bit complicated. I had asked a few other painters to do the job. And none of them was willing to take on the task. Timothy was very creative in addressing the issue. His craftsmanship is top-notch. I highly recommend Timothy for any painting projects.

You will not be disappointed. The level of professionalism and commitment is rarely found at Roberts high level. He completed a near impossible deadline basement remodeling in time for wedding guests and the results were beyond impressive. I found Robert to be insightful almost never having to be instructed. A true Craftsman in every sense of the word.

They did a wonderful job painting the exterior of my house earlier this summer. They're not the cheapest or the quickest, but if you're looking for high quality work and products, with a result which will last for a long time, combined with attention to detail and a professional courteous team, then I would highly recommend them. Their work has since received many unsolicited compliments from neighbors and friends.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How much do painters cost?

The national average cost for an interior painter ranges between $450 and $900. Interior painters can tackle everything from complete color makeovers in each of your rooms to touching up an accent wall to painting pieces of furniture. The square footage and complexity of the project, along with the materials needed, are the main factors that will affect cost. Other factors include whether you supply the paint yourself or want the painter to do so, whether you move the furniture and do the prep work or ask them to do it, and whether any repair work is needed on the walls. Painting the ceiling and the trim will also have an effect on cost. The type of paint you choose can also raise or lower your house painting cost. A gallon of paint may range from $20 to over $100, depending on quality and brand. Ask your painter if they charge per hour or per square foot, and how much you can save by doing prep work (moving furniture, etc.) yourself.

How much does it cost to paint the interior of a house?

Interior house painting costs are calculated on a few key factors. Nationally, interior house painting projects range from $200 to $2,500. The wide price range indicates how much square footage, paint selection and labor can affect cost. One pro uses a laser to measure each room, subtracting the size of the doors and windows, and then bases the quote on the square footage of the actual surfaces to be painted. Painters may provide you with savings if you opt to paint your entire home rather than just having one room or an accent wall painted. For example, the average house painting cost for an 8x12 room with 8-foot ceilings is roughly $200, when contractor-grade paint is used. Painting ceilings, baseboards and frames can also affect cost. Pros may charge per linear foot to smooth and paint baseboards. In one area pros might charge 50 cents per linear foot to paint baseboards, while pros in another part of the country could charge $1.50 per linear foot for the same task. Painters may charge flat rates for painting door and window frames, with one charging $20-$25 and another $60 per door. Geography and regional costs to do business play a major role in the cost of interior painting. The same painter in a rural region has less to pay in taxes, transportation, insurance and overhead than they would in a major city like New York.

How much does a painter charge per room?

The cost to paint a room will vary based on the size of the room, the type of paint you select, any ceiling or trim work needed, and any repairs needed. If no repairs or other additional work is needed, painting a room with contractor-grade paint could range from $1 to $2 per square foot, including materials. Selecting a luxury paint (some cost more than $100 per gallon) will certainly increase your house painting costs. Here are some additional examples of average house painting costs, per room:

  • 12x12 room with a 9-foot ceiling: about $125
  • 12x12 room with an 8-foot ceiling: about $100
  • 14x16 master bedroom with a 9-foot ceiling: about $150
  • 14x16 master bedroom with an 8-foot ceiling: about $125
  • 16x16 living room with a 9-foot ceiling: about $175
  • 16x16 living room with a 20-foot ceiling: starting at $225
