Beatrice was great. I contacted her regarding french lessons and she exceeded my expectations. The lesson was extremely helpful right from the start. We sat down and outlined the areas I wanted to work on and where I needed improvement on. I relayed to Beatrice that I wanted to further my conversational skills due to my frequent traveling to France. She challenged me to conduct the rest of our lesson in french which i really appreciated. We then eased into pronunciations and sentence phrasing. Beatrice is extremely nice and helpful when I was stuck on a particular issue. The whole lesson was uniquely structured around my needs and skill level and explained in a way I could understand. I have tried many french teachers before but none were as helpful and as nice as Beatrice. Highly recommended!

I am an American who has been taking French lessons from Ainna once per week for nearly two years. I didn’t know any French at all until I met my now girlfriend who was born and raised in France. I decided to take up lessons to learn how to speak with her family and I’ve made huge strides in the past 2 years. I now have a great framework of the language and can understand and speak in basic conversations. Ainna’s teaching method is very effective – she combines formal grammar and vocabulary training that has given me the ability to both write and speak properly. In addition, the lessons are very heavily focused on accent training. I have been told by French only speakers in France that I have a very good accent and that can be attributed to Ainna’s teaching – she has the unique ability to teach me how to hear, identify and create the sounds that it takes to speak French correctly. Words that I found nearly impossible to say 2 years ago now come out easily. That’s the result of Ainna’s step-by-step accent training and insistence on repetition until its right. She makes the lessons fun and she is extremely encouraging. It’s been very exciting to get a little bit better every week. I plan to continue with Ainna’s services indefinitely.

Romina is very professional, patient, and effective. She is thorough and creative in explaining difficult concepts and is able to make the content interesting and tangible. As a native speaker she has an extreme knowledge of the Spanish language and a proficient command of its grammar and vocabulary. She listens to your needs and tailors the session to meet your goals. Romina arrives prepared and takes control of the lesson while ensuring a positive and productive experience. She's patient and has great sense of humor. She's truly a phenomenal teacher!

Zoe is an amazing teacher! Her love of the French language, her sensibility to her students' needs, and her sense of humor all make the lessons fun and enjoyable. She will custom-tailor the lessons depending on what the students require and their level of proficiency. She is a real pleasure to be with and even has devised some very cool games to help with the learning. I warmly recommend her!

My twin boys were having difficulty in their middle-school French Class. Claudia Marx was recommended to me very highly by a friend. Upon meeting her, I liked her warm nature, experience and maturity right away, and I knew that she would be a good 'fit' for my kids, who can be challenging to teach when they are frustrated with a school subject. Ms. Marx obviously is well-equipped to teach this subject, given her excellent Bio. She loves France (French Cooking) and the French language, and her credits certainly prove that. She also has a good sense of humor and a love of kids as well. These qualities drew my sons to her immediately. Even their fear and shyness of attempting conversational French seemed to disappear because of her patience and praising nature. Lots of teachers are well versed in verbs and vocabulary, but Claudia Marx goes the extra mile - she established trust by being such an accepting and non-judgmental tutor. In conclusion, my kids responded quickly and fully to Ms Marx, and their grades have improved considerably! The best part of all is that they both now cannot wait until we can all travel to France! An extra bonus for which we certainly can thank Claudia Marx. Outstanding teacher with a warm personality, so well-suited to my boys - and I would guess, all children.

Isabel has taught both of my girls Spanish and French since they were toddlers (over 10 years!). She still teaches them and they understand everything in both languages and have fantastic accents. She is perfectly bilingual in both languages due to her Spanish family and upbringing in Paris. She is unfailingly cheerful, loving, energetic, and positive. We love her so much that she is like a part of our family. My kids talk about wanting to live in Europe and they always get an easy A+ in language class in tough private schools. She is amazing.

I love the Italian language and culture and realized my speaking abilities from my university studies were rustier than I thought during a recent trip to Italy this past summer. Upon my return to the States, I immediately sought private tutoring and I could not be more satisfied in finding Mariateresa. I've seen vast improvement in my comprehension and speaking since I started taking lessons with her. The first couple months were focused on fundamentals and book work but now each lesson begins with about 30 mins of conversation (in Italian of course) before diving into books. I cannot recommend Mariateresa enough regardless of your comprehension level because not only does she challenge me every week to improve my skill but the time spent with her is very enjoyable and something I look forward to every week.

About

From an early age, my parents stimulated my foreign language interest with Spanish language learning records and a French dictionary. Then in high school I took as many foreign language courses as possible in order to initiate my knowledge of Latin, Spanish, and French. My best foreign language learning experience in college was 2 years of residence in a French dorm, La Maison Francaise, where French became my second language. Then Spanish became my third language after my summer in Barcelona. When I graduated, I taught both languages in Pennsylvania public schools and received my permanent certification in both subjects. Since then I have also studied Italian, Modern Greek, Danish, and German. As a foreign language student now, I know the fear of responding incorrectly to a teacher's/tutor's questions, and in my tutoring I strive for an open atmosphere in which students feel free to ask questions to increase their comprehension and enjoyment of speaking, reading, writing and listening to Spanish or French.

About

Fluent City classes are geared towards learning, but we also make sure that the process is super fun. Our energetic and approachable teachers create a relaxed environment for you to take on the challenge of learning a language alongside like-minded people. There is a huge difference between knowing how to speak a language and knowing how to teach it, and we pride ourselves on hiring teachers who are ridiculously good at what they do: explaining how the language works and getting you to speak it immediately. Our beginner classes are usually taught by non-native speakers…on purpose! They are often Americans who learned the language themselves as adults. Our teachers understand, firsthand, everything that goes into learning a language because they were once students of the language themselves, which informs the very way they explain how it works to you. Native speakers or teachers with native-level fluency usually teach our higher-level classes.
