FAQs
- How did you get started doing this type of work?
I fell in love with music at an early age. I began songwriting at the age of 5. For the last 20 years, I've tried to experience music from as many angles as possible: songwriting and performing, studio recording, composing for musical theatre, writing contemporary classical music, and so much more. I wouldn't say I "decided" to pursue music, but rather that the path to music was inevitable.
- What types of customers have you worked with?
I offer both guitar and songwriting lessons. I'm looking to work with musicians who already have basic experience playing guitar and have written or are interested in writing their own material. We'll strengthen the basics of my technique (improvisation of chord patterns, dyad and triad progressions, mastering chord formations) and using those skills to create new riffs and progressions. In a songwriting situation both music and lyrics are emphasized. My vast knowledge of music theory will help guide students through the creation of meaningful material that expresses the musician's unique voice and perspective. Lyrically, the focus will be the shift away from cliche and paraphrase to writing a lyric that, again, emphasizes the writer's unique perspective but also helps to reach a wider audience by tapping into universal themes.
- What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?
If you're looking to hire me to be your teacher, all I ask are 3 things: an open mind to instruction, a willingness to express yourself, and a devotion to your art. Music is my life and I hope that you'll make it an important part of yours.
