I went to a Combat Hapkido seminar in Vermont approximately 18'years ago while on Vacation.I met a Great Group of people and GM P. !founder of the ICHF,he told me of a school teaching his system in the Bronx, near my home. I went to a class and the instructor ,GM Medina, and the others in the class were friendly but realistic in their approach as many were active NYPD,and they wanted to be sure what we did worked. I joined and have stayed on board all these years because I believe in what we do and what we teach,as Instructed by GM Medina. I have a background in various arts that date back to 1969, so this is not something I joined with no knowledge of anything else. I Have experiences in Oriental Self Defense, various Styles of TKD,I trained in Goju,Kenpo,as well as under two instructors of Wing Chun. ,Shotokan, Japanese Weapons,Aikido and under Three Korean Hapkido Masters,Ik Jo Kang,Chin Il Chang, and GM Tong Lee. So Imhave what many would call Traditional Hapkidomroots, and find Combat Hapkido of no real difference to what the Koreans taught other than we do lower kicks, and do not do the high throws seen in many Hapkido schools though High kicks and High throws were not what the founder,Choi, taught in his Yarawa,HapkidomteachingsI have also trained in US Military Combatives,WWII Combatives and Reality Based Self Defense systems. I still do other training seminars once in a while but my base art ,and system I would use and have used for street self protection is Combat Hapkido as trained at the Bronx Combat Hapkido School ,under GM Medina. The best martial art defense system ever! I was amazed from my first class and became a student. Combat Hapkido is Close Quarter Combat with a variety of martial arts developed into it. Primarily,it has Aikido and Jujitsu (Aki-Juitsu) and the moves use minimal force leaving a person in deviating pain. There is no fancy stretching or kicking. Low kicks are used such as to the knee to buckle a person off balance. Pressure points and joint manipulation is the main directive in this accredited fighting system. I would recommend this to all persons from all walks of life from 18-65+.
