About my teaching practice:
I teach voice from the perspective of finding a balance between breath, body, and sound, developing strength and flexibility, releasing tension, and finding one's unique expression! I work from the teachings of Somatic Voicework, body awareness practices, and my studies with many various vocal coaches, an Alexander Technique coach, a Feldenkrais practitioner, and a speech therapist.
I teach guitar, beginning piano, and ukulele as well. In these lessons we focus on gaining techniques to quickly begin playing songs, learn theoretical concepts, and develop note reading abilities.
I love helping songwriters develop their own music, whether they are just starting out or having been writing for a long time and need some 3rd person guidance. Songwriting can be done without any ability to play another instrument! I help my students identify harmony, song structure, develop lyrics, melodies, rhythms, and how to make musical choices. We may also work on recording and song production in a DAW (such as GarageBand, Logic, or Protools).
I have also taught many lessons that are a mix of subjects (for example, Guitar and Voice, Songwriting and Voice, Guitar and Production etc.). For mixed lessons I charge my base rate of $35- 30min, $45- 45min, $55 - 60min. I believe it can be helpful to work on voice and guitar or voice and piano together, to develop the ability to fine tune musical hearing capacities, and grow in novel and creative ways.
About my performance and recording practice:
I have been a performer since the age of 13, when I was a lead singer in a Soul/Rock cover band, "Revolt-age". We performed across the city in venues such as Humphrey's By the Bay, the San Diego Yacht Club, the Del Mar Fair, Ocean Beach Farmers Market's and many other local venues/parties/events. I have been performing in various capacities since that age, and have played in jazz trio gigs at venues in NYC, such as The Flatiron Room, and Rue B, pop gigs at restaurants like Prohibition and Bite, and played many shows at venues such as Bar Freda, Shapeshifter Lab, the Sidewalk Cafe, the Bitter End, and many more. I was able to be a featured and background vocalist for Kevyn Lettau's tour of Manila, Philippines. I sing Soul, Pop, Folk, and Jazz and work for hire.
I record from home, and wrote the music, recorded vocals, guitar, keys, and various sounds for my last album "It's Raining in Here". I recently wrote and recorded a new EP that is available through a private link. I can also send samples of current alt-pop projects I am recording and producing from home. I have worked as a background vocalist, and have extensive experience creating and recording background vocals.
