Introduction: Since opening Brooklyn Piano in 2001 I have serviced a wide range of clients from the finest arts institutions in the world, including The National Opera Center, Mark Morris Dance Group, New York City Opera at Lincoln Center and The New school for Jazz and Contemporary Music to numerous recording studios, rehearsal halls, musicians, students and music lovers throughout New York City. As a professional musician for nearly 30 years I have also performed and recorded all over North America and Europe. This allows me to bring a valuable perspective to the artist- technician relationship. No job is too big or too small, I look forward to servicing your piano! -----Michael "Mickey" Finn

I’ve used Mike’s tuning service for about 5 years now. I don’t hesitate to recommend him to any friend or colleague who needs a quality piano turner. He’s not the cheapest, but I don’t mind that at all because I have always been pleased with his work. I think my favorite thing about dealing with Mike is that I trust him. He’s clearly been tuning pianos for a long time and he’s not a flake. He’s always on time and he gets my old upright in tune quickly. When you’ve got a guy like Mike that you can call, keeping your piano in tune is easy.

Mickey Finn is as courteous and professional as anyone I have ever worked with... I met him when he was actually playing an old piano in an event at my local Brooklyn Library and watched in amazement as he tuned their mis-cared for piano expertly before he played. I got his card, and when I finally got my own banged up piano, he was my first call, and he worked miracles. He is very understanding, patient, and seems at one with the piano... there must be a lot of zen to tuning pianos, and he's got it! Since then I have referred him to anyone who ever asks "do you know a piano tuner" or "who tunes your piano," and everyone always calls back and says, Hey, that Brooklyn Piano guy is great! I know he has worked on everything from grand pianos for the New York Opera and my friend's uprights in their homes as well as the pianos in local recording studios. I keep him on speed dial! Great ears, nice guy, fair price, great experience, always. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.

Michael Finn of Brooklyn Piano is a true professional. He’s highly skilled, knowing the ins and outs of any type of piano from the opera hall and stage to your family heirloom upright. He tuned our upright after many years of no attention. He provides great service at a good value. If you have the option to work with him, he always delivers.

  • What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?

Base fee includes tuning to A440. Basic repairs, silencing squeaks and pedal adjustments are also normally included. Additional charges for pitch raises, regulation or voicing will be discussed and agreed upon before moving forward with any work.

  • What is your typical process for working with a new customer?

Most consultations are done by email. I will assess the needs of the client and given the details of the situation and piano will give an estimate on time and price.

  • What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

I have been owner operator of Brooklyn Piano for nearly 20 years. I mentored with Fred Hitchcock of New York City Ballet at Lincoln Center while I was technician for New York City Opera at Lincoln Center 2003-2011. I am a lifelong musician who has worked professionally all over the US and Europe. I bring a musical understanding to all situations.
