Sam is a terrific drum teacher. He has been teaching my 9 year old son for over a year and we are excited by how much my son has learned and how much he enjoys playing the drums. Sam has inspired him and we are very happy that he has a hobby that he wants to pursue. Sam chooses fun songs that my son is excited to learn and to practice. Sam has a positive attitude and is organized and reliable. I highly recommend him.Feb 19, 2017
We have had a positive experience working with Sam. My son has been taking drum lessons for the past two years with Sam. He has been punctual, professional, (always upbeat) and delightful to work with. My son very much enjoys working with him.Feb 16, 2017

Sam does a great job of imparting his skill and experience in a fun, engaging way. He makes it his business to provide context for basic technique and rudiment, which not only makes otherwise boring drills and exercise more enjoyable to learn, but results in more permanent retention and seamless incorporation of those fundamentals into my technique.Feb 23, 2015
Sam Merrick is a talented and attentive educator. He was able to explain rhythms in a simple and accessible way. Most importantly, he makes learning fun. After studying with him for 3 years I give him the highest recommendation and can't imagine studying drums with anyone else.Feb 19, 2015
- What types of customers have you worked with?-I provide weekly hour-long instructional drum lessons, focusing on a variety of aspects of the instrument. Every lesson caters to the needs and goals of that individual student. -When I'm not teaching, I do session drum tracking for various artists, jingle houses, and producers. I tour internationally with a number of artists as well.
- What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?Seek out a teacher who offers balance. A drill sergeant may offer beneficial lessons about technique and disciplined practice but won't necessarily provide the intangibles that will keep you interested and excited about the instrument. For example, I often like to teach through songs, especially ones you already know, as I believe there's a lesson in every song to be had.
