About this pro

How does your business stand out?

I provide custom treatments determined by my clients' needs and preferences. I am trained in many aspects of healing bodywork : Deep Tissue massage, Medical massage, Sports Massage, Pre-Natal massage, Aromatherapy, Reflexology, Chinese cupping, Oriental Accupressure, Yoga, Reiki, Nutrition and Natural Healing Arts. I utilize as many of these modalities in a session as I am inspired to do at no extra cost.

What do you enjoy about the work you do?

I enjoy the rhythm and flow of a healing massage session. I love to soothe and relax people, and I always listen for the unmistakable sound of someone releasing a breath they may have been unconsciously holding all day or even all week. Most of all, I enjoy the freedom to follow my intuition . I learn something from every client and to me, that is priceless.

I have had three different sessions with Peggy Mcloughlin, walking away from each with a sense of wellness and more informed about my body and issues related to my particular situation. My first session was just weeks after gall bladder surgery. I was so nervous. Upon entering her work space my nervousness fell away immediatelyand I left feeling so connected to my body and encouraged about the ability for the body to heal. My other two sessions were also very relaxing ,informative and diverse. Tai techniques were introduced and my body responded well to this method of massage. Peggy was professional, sensitive, knowledgable and clear about her work and her clients needs . I look forward to my next session! I love that Peggy is always exploring and refining her unique techniques. With gratitude,Clementine Giordano

The Breathing room is a very clean, serene space and Peggy is a thoughtful therapist. She is gentle yet firm and asks your body to release with a healing touch. She takes time where it's needed and you are left feeling renewed and refreshed.

Q&A

What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?
I charge $75 per hour at my home office, $120 if I travel to you. Occasionally I will offer a lower rate for a first time client.
What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
First I ask some questions, to try to understand what my client wants or expects from a session, and then when they are on the table, I try to feel what is going on. So my pressure can be lighter at first, gradually deepening until a therapeutic and tolerable level is reached. I always provide some relief in a first treatment, but lasting results may take a few sessions.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I graduated with honors from the New York College of Health Professions, receiving an Associates Degree. I also have specialized training in Aromatherapy, Sports Massage and Thai Massage. I am a Pain and Posture upper body specialist, certified by the Freedom From Pain Academy. I am also a Level 2 Japanese Usui Reiki practitioner, working my way towards becoming a Master. I am also enrolled in a Yoga Dual certification course from Yoga Vista Academy.
How did you get started doing this type of work?
For me, masage therapy is more of a calling than a profession. I was at a crossroads in my life and knew I had to make a change, but I had no clue which way to go. I had a frozen shoulder and was recovering from a 3 month battle with pneumonia. One day I just woke up and enrolled in massage therapy school. It didn't make any sense at all, but from the first day, I felt like I was finally doing what I was meant to do with my life. And I've never regretted it. Not for one minute.
What types of customers have you worked with?
I've worked at several of the most luxurious spas on Long Island, and so I have plenty of experience bringing the stressed out into a state of blissed out in 60 minutes. I also work with a holistic Chiropractor, performing deep tissue, medical and sports massage to those clients who have been injured in some way. I incorporate therapeutic stretching, Chinese cupping, and thermogenic treatments that bring some instant relief, and greater relief over the course of a few sessions.
