James did an excellent job painting trim and front porch areas of our house. He worked neatly and as promised. This was a relatively small job and actually finishing a job started by someone else. He did above and beyond and wanted us to be happy with his work. I highly recommend him and would definitely call him again for work on our house.

We hired James to paint a small bedroom with a peeling ceiling and the stairway/landing area of our home. He estimated 2-3 days of work but was unable to complete the job in that amount of time. James arrived nearly 2 hours later than he planned each day. He worked slow which he claimed was because he was a perfectionist, but his work did not reflect that. His quote was very reasonable as far as cost, but he was unable to complete the job in the amount of time he had allotted and he misjudged the amount of paint needed to get the job done. Improving his estimating skills and better communicating his start and end times would have improved this experience. Showing up when he said he would be there or calling to say he would be late before he was actually late would also be another way he could have improved his service.

I'm sorry that Michelle V. was so unhappy with the job, but there are several factors she omitted from her review. The peeling ceiling was caused by water damage due to a roof leak, resulting in severe staining that I painted with a stain-blocking primer that she supplied that was totally ineffective, resulting in much extra labor and remediation work; it needed 4 coats of the primer and 3 coats of ceiling paint. That unexpected extra work seriously affected my scheduling negatively. Although I arrived later than I hoped to, I stayed the extra 2 hours to attempt a timely completion of the job. I underestimated the labor needed, I admit, but I worked very hard to complete this job, which required a 22' extension ladder and planking to reach some areas. My work is high quality, looking back I should not have quoted so low a price.
