The service was outstanding only to be surpassed by the quality of the food. Everything was delicious and all the guests were raving about everything that was served. The quantity was likewise outstanding as we have leftovers enough for the whole week. I would recommend Chuck and his wife to anyone looking for home catering services. It was truly an incredibly lucky find and I'm so glad I hired him for this special occasion. He really made the day extra special and one to remember.

Perfect! I requested catering services very last minute since my previous caterer canceled and Chef chris came to my rescue! He was so helpful and accommodating and I felt relieved the second I spoke with him. The event was flawless and It was a blessing in disguise that the previous caterer canceled because I got to experience NY Catering Service. Can’t wait to do this again. Thanks!!

Tamara catered an in-store cocktail party for 70 people/ 2.5 hours. We were very impressed with all aspects of the booking and service. She gave us a fantastic menu to choose from and worked within our budget and wants even going above and beyond by providing additional menu options we did not request. Tamara was able to work in a small space and the entire event was seamless - I highly recommend Tamara for your catering needs.

Adolfo is UNBELIEVABLE! He is truly a professional caterer- reliable, knowledgable, efficient, friendly, and knows how to make GREAT food! Everyone of our guests commented how creative the appetizers were and how delicious the entree/buffet items were....it was also evident in the numerous second-helpings that most guests had! Adolfo helped decrease the stress and anxiety surrounded by planning a wedding, and made sure everything was PERFECT down to the last detail! He runs his catering service like a well-oiled machine, and even delivered the alcohol to the event! He is one-of-a kind and we HIGHLY recommend using him for your next event- big or small, fancy or casual...he is the best decision we made for our wedding!

f despite that it was thanksiving day, and she had her own family, Chef Aless catered my family's special day with superb attention to both the food, which was beyond delicious and plentiful, and presentation. She arrived early with a trolley full of delectable hors d'oeuvres, the best turkey ever baked, and containers full of great accompanying veggies. This was the first time I have ever needed outside catering, but the experience of having Chef Aless was so seamless, and the food was so perfect, that even if I have to invent an occasion, which I will, I know she could handle it with a touch of that marvelous French charm and expertise, and very little interference from me! I'm a cook, specifically a baker. but Chef Aless is a master, and everything was delivered expeditiously and promptly. And with heart... A truly wonderful experience. Thank you so much Alessandra. I would rate this five star if it didn't have two little accidents. One was we couldn't find a lighter when it was time to light the candles on the cake. Another was kind of a miscommunication, I took a cake for my son but then I myself forgot to take one so the catering team thought I had one already but I guess I was the only one who didn't have the cake as the birthday girl. I don't mind that much because I'm not a cake person and this type of mistake could probably only happen to me bc I think any other person would have requested it. So I wouldn't think it's the catering team's fault. Just letting you know if you are like me who doesn't crave for cakes and will be busy running around, you better get one first, haha. Overall I think the team did a great job. The manager arrived early, the food was delicious, the team was fast and professional, the plating was nice, the manager even helped to bring special bamboo plates for the cake, which is of great quality. I didn't taste much of the wine selection but it seems my friends were happy about them. The pricing was very reasonable and communication was easy. The only possible improvement I could think of is probably adding 2-3 courses. I would highly recommend this caterer to my friends.

Claude and Craig were fantastic, catering events on 3 consecutive days for me a week ago, with less than 2 weeks to do it. They were very kind, and are talented, producing a spread each day that everyone enjoyed a lot, and were punctual, swift in setting up and breaking down, which they did discretely as the party continued on around them. The well-abled duo was able to handle a somewhat complex arrangement in a short window (and popular time) with excellent communication, and offered competitive rates, especially for the use of better ingredients (organic & non-GMO). I would and have already recommended them to friends. Unique dishes, down-home style cooking, with flairs of other cultures mixed in - thoroughly enjoyable. The veggie eggplant lasagna was a big hit, among others.

I was overwhelmed with the demands and costs of a wedding and did not know how to proceed with catering services for the wedding. The costs for 50-60 people were exceedingly high and my budget was suffering because of it. I had made several calls to different caterers but to no avail. Then I tried Thumbtack.com and was very fortunate enough to speak with Yvonne Chambers from Taste of Our Legacy Caterers. She was very patient, reliable, understanding and resilient when it came to addressing the wedding menu. She held a great rapport with me and provided me with sublime customer service. She was also very negotiable with my budget and instead of turning me down like the other caterers; she worked with me until we came up with a price that was fitting. There are not too many caterers like her; she is one of a kind! On my wedding day Saturday, September 27, 2014, the food was delicious! My husband and I enjoyed the delectable arrangements of food. All of my wedding guests were commenting on how great the food tasted. Our wedding menu had a variety of dishes and even had a vegetarian dish as well (pasta primavera) which was a huge hit! If anyone out there is looking for a caterer who will meet your needs according to your budget and menu – Taste of Our Legacy Caterers is the one for you! Pamela

BOOK'EM NOW!...... LIKE RIGHT NOW!!! Hands down thee best catering company I have ever experienced! I used RSVP as the owner catered a friend's engagement party in February. I have worked in the restaurant industry for several years and could not believe the attention to detail that their wait staff displayed. They were on point with everything and my glass never went empty. The whole staff was very nice and very professional. Especially the bartender . I chatted it up with him for a bit, made really good drinks and was a real friendly guy. Now, the food was outstanding! I really enjoyed the gorgonzola stuffed babybella mushrooms amongst all the other delicious dishes. I had a chance to meet the owner Renee after the dinner while everyone was dancing. Not over exaggerating at all, they were probably the kindest people I every met. SUPER COOL, totally humble, and they even gave me food to take home. I would recommend RSVP to anybody and everybody that wants their party to be a success!

It was an amazing experience having Milt, Janet and their crew as our caterers. They arrived early to set up and be prepared for our guest. The food was AMAZING!!!! I cannot get over their stuffed mushrooms, those delicious little chicken quesadilla, OMG the shrimp cocktail...I can sit here and name every single dish we ordered and tell the world what an amazing experience it was for my taste buds and my guest will say the same. I will continue to work with Studio Event Staffing for all my future events. Not only were they professional, they were very friendly and warm--they have an awesome team put together!!

Corley's Catering provided services for my wife's surprise 40th birthday celebration in late 2015. While I know the owner well I had never used her services professionally. Corley's Catering was accommodating and professional with me from meeting me near my job to plan the menu to ensuring that delicious food was there on time on the day of the event. We had friends and family (with discriminating tastes) there as well so the food, set up and customer service had to be on point. Corley's Catering is a growing small business and is worth giving a try for your event.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How do you find a good caterer?

Reviews, interviews and menu tastings will help you find the right catering choice for your big day. Start by screening possible wedding caterers based on past reviews. If a caterer you are interested in has a review that concerns you, ask them about it; how they respond will be very telling. Next, ask about their availability for your wedding date.

If the wedding caterer is available on your date, it’s time to talk about menus and prices. Be clear about what your maximum budget is find out what choices this will allow you. Caterers may custom-create a menu for your event, or they may have menu templates within different price ranges that can guide your decision. A clear budget gives the caterer clear parameters within which to work and offer creative suggestions. Schedule a menu tasting to confirm you love your wedding menu. Once you have a menu and date, and have paid a deposit to reserve the caterer’s services, confirm additional details including when the food will be delivered to the site, what kind of service will be provided, how many servers will be onsite and for how long, and who is responsible for setup and cleanup. The more specific your contract, the fewer worries you’ll have on your wedding day. Get more smart hiring tips here.

How much does wedding catering cost per person?

Wedding catering costs will always vary based on the number of guests you’re inviting, the menu you want to serve, and the way the food will be served to your guests. As you interview wedding catering companies, you’ll be presented with a cost per person for various menus. On the low end, wedding catering may cost approximately $15-$18 per person. This would include prepared food only, with no setup or service of any kind. The starting price for a simple buffet meal with minimal service typically averages $22 per person. Opting for the same menu with all organic ingredients could raise your costs to about $33 per person. A moderately upscale menu (finer ingredients, more elaborate presentation) could range from $24 to $34 per person. High-end wedding catering cost truly has no limit. Lobster, filet mignon, specialty seafood, organic ingredients — menu choices like these can boost your cost per person up to $150 and more.

Do you tip a wedding caterer?

Tipping 15 percent to 20 percent on a $3,000 catering bill can feel daunting — especially in light of all the other costs of throwing a wedding — but tipping your wedding caterer is standard practice. Be sure to ask your caterer about their specific policies. Many catering companies include gratuity as a line item on their bill. If tipping is not automatically included in your total, a good approach is to tip all the people involved the day of the event rather than paying one lump sum to the catering company. For each server and bartender, you can tip $20-$50, depending on how long they were onsite and whether they did exceptional work. You can also tip the chef; experts suggest $50. It’s also a good idea to tip the catering manager, the point-of-contact person who keeps the catering service running smoothly the day of your wedding, ensures all the food looks beautiful and is plentiful, and resolves any mishaps. Industry pros recommend tipping the catering manager $100-$200. If gratuity is not included and you’re tipping individuals, set aside $200-$500 in cash to be safe.

How much does it cost to hire a caterer?

Catering prices depend mainly on how fancy you want the food and service to be and how many guests you’ll have. When you’re first looking to hire a caterer for your event, consider how many guests you’ll have and your total food and drink budget. The national average for event catering is $340, but catering prices can range into the thousands depending on your menu, guest count, and service.

Event catering is a broad term that covers everything from fully prepared, ready-to-eat food that the hosts plate and serve themselves to full-service, multicourse meals, including rental of linens, glassware and other items, with service staff organized by the catering company. Usually a caterer will determine cost based on the type of event you’re having, how many guests will attend, the level of service you desire, and what type of menu you’d like to have. For example, if you have a set catering budget, say $1,500, and you plan to have 50 people attend, that means you have $30 per person for food. If you have the same budget with 100 people, you have $15 per person for food. In this way, the number of people you want to attend your event and the level of food you want to serve them determines how much catering will cost.

What should you look for in a caterer?

A delicious meal is a critical element of a successful wedding, with happy guests fondly remembering your fabulous wedding food. The right caterer for you will be:

  • Available: Even the best caterer is no good if they aren’t available on your wedding date. Ask early before you get your heart set on someone.
  • Affordable for you: Find a caterer that you can afford. Having a spending plan ahead of time will mean you won’t overspend on food.
  • A good personality fit: Wedding planning is stressful, so work with someone that you can get along with and communicate with easily.
  • Experienced and recommended: Ensure the company has a proven track record with events of your size and the references to back it up.
  • Transparent about money: Steer clear of shady pricing. Find a caterer who is very clear about costs and is happy to talk you through budgets and pricing options.
  • Transparent about food: Find someone who is clear about where they source their food from and where it is prepared.
Hire skilled professionals for absolutely everything.
