Introduction: Teaching between Queens and Long Island & I have my private students travel to me! Performing throughout NY, NJ, & CT. My name is Kelley and I began playing violin at the age of five and started to teach others at the age of fourteen. In these many years of teaching, I have formed caring and long lasting relationships with each of my students. I believe that patience, understanding and support are the most important things while teaching a student. After all, playing a violin is not easy! I began my studies at the Manhattan School of Music and later transferred to the Boston Conservatory where I earned my bachelors in music as well as a Graduate Performance Diploma. I have played as a soloist at both Lincoln Center and Carnegie Hall’s Weill Recital Hall. I have orchestrally performed numerous times at Carnegie’s Stern Auditorium, Sander’s Theatre at Harvard, and NEC’s Jordan Hall. I am well versed in solo repertoire, chamber music, and orchestral playing. In regards to teaching, I work with a healthy mixture of Russian technique and Franco Belgian/American style. I am also well versed in the Suzuki method. In addition to teaching privately and maintaining a performance career, I run a Non-Profit Organization called Musicians for the World, founded by my partner and myself in 2020. My team and I virtually teach musicians from vulnerable areas of the world such as Kenya, Peru, Haiti, Mexico, Belize, Trinidad and Tobago, Paraguay and Suriname. I have the website listed on my page if you would like to know more about what we do. I adore teaching and helping others, so I will never be a teacher who puts down her students. Comfort, positive reinforcement and welcoming inspiration/excitement is my priority during lessons. Side-note on pricing: I understand that everyone’s financial situation is unique and often times shifting. Please do not hesitate to contact me because of the bass price written in my add. I am always happy to discuss and work something out that will feel comfortable for you. Music education is not easily accessible to many - I’m not a fan of this and I would like to be part of the solution. I look forward to hearing from you all!

Violin Lessons

Kelley was great! Worked around my schedule when I needed her too. Sent me more than enough material to work on. Often would chat with me outside of lessons on technique and form. Most importantly, one of the only times I’ve ever taken a violin lesson and smiled. She will remain one of my all time favorite teachers of any subject

Kelley was an incredibly supportive and wonderful violin instructor. She was always very encouraging and gave constructive criticism. I learned so much from her for the 5 years that I had lessons from her, and I really owe much of my passion for music and success to her.

I took lessons with Kelley throughout most of High School and in my first year of college, and have only positive things to say about my experience. She was responsive to my learning style, very flexible with my schedule, and incredibly skilled as a violinist. With her guidance, I strongly feel that my ability (and confidence in my own playing) grew much faster than they did with any of my teachers beforehand. As a person with a collagen disorder which effects the flexibility of my fingers, I posed a special challenge as a student, but Kelley met that challenge with attention and understanding. Adapting her teaching to my specific needs, she helped me overcome these problems and reduce the pain playing often gave me. On top of all that, Kelley is amazingly kind and personable. I always enjoyed our lessons, and she even came to family parties to perform duets with me! Also, she has adorable dogs!!!

FAQs

  • What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?

I have a fixed rate for my lessons but I have and will help anyone who wants to learn and cannot afford the regular fee.

  • What is your typical process for working with a new customer?

I always start off with a conversation about what they know and what their goals are in taking lessons. It is important to know what someone’s end goal is in order to teach them properly.

  • What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

I have twenty years worth of training from many different amazing teachers. I have played many different genres, studied music history, harmony and counterpoint, ear training, etc. I have a BM and GPD in violin performance.
