I hired hired Berry Home Improvements & Handymen Services to install and faucet in my bathroom. The job definitely needed someone with Berry's knowledge and experience. He was very professional and had all the tools necessary to get the job done right. He also installed a ceiling fan. With both jobs, he was very patient and cleaned up after he was done. I'll definitely use Berry's Home Improvements & Handymen Services again.

Joseph and his partner were very professional though out the entire job from email inquiry to finished work. Joseph did an excellent job with the communication prior to arrival and the couch legs were repaired so quickly I thought it was a magic trick. I was almost looking for more repairs for him to do. Highly recommend Skilled Service, Repair & Installation to anyone.

Based on such a positive experience with J&R Quality Repair, I'd personally recommend their services for any of your plumbing needs. Jason and Rick are two of the most professional tradesmen I have worked with; they are punctual, professional, organized and very friendly. I hired them for two separate projects: 1. Completely re-pipe a natural gas boiler system that had multiple leaks/corrosion and 2. complete plumbing for two bathrooms we renovated at our home. When I initially spoke with Jason about the projects he asked me to take several pictures in advance from my phone, so he had an idea of the exact parts and effort that was required. The boiler project was completed in several hours, all of the pipes/connections are leak free and aligned professionally. After the winter season, the work was 100% issue free, there are no leaks and the system is functioning flawlessly. For the bathrooms we renovated, J&R helped in two phases of the project. They initially helped disconnect the sinks, showers, tubs and toilets. We completed all of the sheetrock, tile work, and painting. J&R then returned to complete the plumbing /reconnect all of the new appliances and finishing work. Everything now looks amazing; all of the fixtures Jason recommended function great and I feel comfortable knowing parts can be easily sourced if there is a problem after years of use. I have already provided their contact information to several friends that have plumbing needs; I also look forward to utilizing their services for any additional projects in the future.

Ges came over to help me unclog my toilet because a tube of toothpaste was accidentally flushed down. He removed the toilet and snaked the toilet and flush is all back to normal. Professional, and most important of all - has the paperwork for any type of co-op situation in NYC (large insurance requirements). Definitely will contact him again for future plumbing/home repair issues.

Kurt from Grayson HVAC was very knowledgeable about the installation of our split unit ACs. He gave us options for the kind of units to get, gave us pricing options, gave us timelines, gave us the best options for the location of the units, showed up on time for each appointment, and stayed late until the job was completed. My husband, who gets so cranky during the summer because of the heat (he really does get cranky), is on "CLOUD 9" since the ACs were installed. The pricing was reasonable for the quality work we received. The AC units look GREAT, they are QUIET yet POWERFUL and seamless. We appreciate Grayson HVAC's professionalism and work quality. My husband and I would recommend Grayson HVAC's services to anyone. We will post pictures at a later date once the construction in our home is completed. Respectfully, Mr. & Mrs. Cleveland Samuels

Expert repair and customer service. I was lucky to find them on Thumbtack when our Washing Machine stopped draining. We were contacted promptly, given a fair estimate and scheduled an appointment. Moises came, diagnosed the problem right away and ordered the part right in front of my eyes. We made an appointment for a few days later when the part arrived for him to come back and install it. I'm happy to say our Washing Machine is working once again and our family has found a nice, reliable appliance repair service with exceptional customer service. We not only recommend, but we will definitely be repeat customers.

I needed my refrigerator repaired. I got a quote from P&T Appliance Repair. The manager called to confirm that the men were on the way. She was very polite and professional. Two men promptly showed up. They were courteous enough the take their shoes off before entering my house. They were extremely professional. A job they estimated would take 90 minutes took longer. They worked past their closing time without complaining and did not charge me anymore than they quoted. They cleaned up their workspace and made sure I examined their work before I paid them. I would definitely recommend them to other people and use them again if I ever need any repairs done. If you are in need of repairs, this is the company to call!

Darrio called me as soon as I posted an ad indicating I needed help with heavy lifting and assembling of a furniture piece and moving some heavy furniture in my apartment. He asked when I needed the job done and arranged to come at the time I requested. He and a coworker arrived on time and did the work perfectly. They actually noticed a chair needed repair and repaired it. He and his coworker were very nice and polite and the price was quite reasonable. I would definitely use his services again to help with repairs, heavy lifting or moving of objects again.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How much does refrigerator repair cost?

Refrigerator repair generally costs a fraction of the price of a new fridge and shouldhave your appliance up and running again in no time. The problems your refrigerator is experiencing and the parts required to fix it will affect your repair costs. Where you live can affect labor rates, which will raise or lower your costs. Here are some examples of average costs:

  • Diagnostic fees: $50-$100. Repair pros often have a service call fee or diagnostic fee to account for their time traveling to your location with all their tools to assess the problem. If you choose to have them repair the fridge, most pros then credit this fee toward your repair cost.
  • Parts: $20-$500. A new compressor averages $200, an icemaker $300, and computerized components such as touch screens and control boards average $300 or more.
  • Basic repairs: $180-$400, including parts. This price range can include repairing the evaporator or fan motor.

How long do fridges last?

Refrigerators can last 10 to 20 years, although the most common lifespan is about 13 years. If your fridge is acting up, consider its current age when deciding whether to invest in repairs or buy a new one. Common easy fixes include faulty thermostats, dirty coils and clogged drain lines. Thermostats and dirty coils can be generally be fixed for an average cost of $80-$100. Clogged drain lines, which usually cause leaks, can often be fixed for under $200.

More complex refrigeration repairs such as replacing a bad compressor or replenishing low refrigerant can cost more because of expensive parts and higher labor. A new compressor costs an average of $200, not including labor. If labor is an average of $75-$100 per hour, and the repair takes 3 hours, you’re looking at roughly $500. Consider the age and purchase cost of your fridge; investing $350 in a $600 fridge that is 8 years old may not be cost-effective.
