Guitar Lessons

Dave has been awesome in our sessions thus far as my guitar teacher. I came from a background having limited knowledge/experience with guitar and he truly has been great in helping me improve based on my goals and experience. Always patient and encouraging with his teaching style and I very much appreciate his responsiveness and professionalism on/off session (i.e., going for extra mile in getting me chord charts of different songs, helping me understand what is the most effective way of picking a song up while still focusing on my getting my foundation right, etc). Again, can’t recommend Dave more and he is also just a great guy all around to spend time with (virtually lol). You won’t regret it. Mr. professional!

Thank you, Seb! Is it cool if I ask people to call me "Mr. professional" from now on? I'll be sure to give you full credit. Jokes aside, it's great working with you; you're picking up on the fundamentals really quickly! It won't be long before we can look at a song you want to learn and be able to figure out by ear, and faster too. See you next lesson!

Singing Lessons

He has been very patient with me so far and it’s greatly appreciated. He treats his students well and wants the best for them. He’s willing to work around schedules especially since mine can be a bit hectic. He knows his stuff I definitely recommend him he has a warm welcoming vibe. After a while you find yourself easily opening up to him during the lessons and you get less nervous. Things have started to come back to me as the lessons go on. He takes his time with you and he will be my teacher from here on out.

Thank you so much, Angie! I'm excited to keep working with you, especially for when we get into some more riff oriented songs. You'll be playing "Fat Lip" by Sum41 sooner than later, and that's a promise!

Singing Lessons

Dave has been great with my 6 year old son. It's been 2 months with ukulele lessons & has been learning at what pace he's comfortable with, it may be through zoom but it works fine for us. I also like that they offer other instruments & vocal lessons for future endeavors. They are also great at communicating about lesson time/day changes if needed. Overall experience 👍👍👍😁
Dave Muto Music Lessons (teachers in NY & CT)'s reply
Thank you so much, Crisanta! Your son has really come out of his shell these past few lessons; seems like ukulele is serving as a great conduit for communicating! I'm excited to move onto scales & chords soon, and when he's ready/if schedules allow, resume vocal lessons with Joanna as well! Seeya next lesson!

Guitar Lessons

I've been taking acoustic guitar lessons with Dave for about a month now. I played for years without any training and then put it down for a decade or so. Now that my kids are getting older and I've been stuck in quarantine, I decided to get back into it and to do it right. Dave responded to my Thumbtack request and quickly jumped on the phone to get a better sense of my abilities, goals, musical taste, etc. We scheduled a trial lesson in the following week, and I then signed up for a 4 pack. Dave is very conscientious about cost and expenses during these tough times, and will thus offer a discount when you buy multiple classes, which is in my mind a good idea anyway since you need to commit for a period of time if you really want to see some results. He's fun, easy going, and a student music. If you tell him you're interested in something he's going to roll up his sleeves and dig in with you. He wants to puzzle things out and teach you how to do the same. He understands theory and will go there with you to the extent that you want to understand the why behind the music rather than simply memorizing the how. And he's never going to shame you if you don't get a chance to practice as much as you ought to. Again, you get out of it what you put into it, and he's willing to work with you at whatever level of effort you wish to provide. Last thing I'll say is that Dave is on the younger side and thus has both an appreciation for and willingness to learn about all genres of music. He and I have been talking about and exploring Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin, and Rush, but I wouldn't be surprised if he could be just as adept with a completely different set of artists. Dave's the man!

FAQs

  • What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?

I offer discounts on bulk purchases for music lessons! Shoot me a message to learn about my bulk rates!

  • What is your typical process for working with a new customer?

Typically, before we begin, we discuss goals. Are they looking to train and really hone their abilities on this instrument? Or are they just looking to learn the instrument and have fun. Once we learn what the student wants out of these lessons, we proceed accordingly: from learning the fundamentals, to the techniques needed to play how THEY want to play!

  • What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

Joanna Hu, our vocal teacher, has a Master of Music degree in Vocal Performance from New York University. Jinjoo Yoo, our piano teacher, has a Master’s degree in Jazz Performance from Queens College. Dave Muto, our guitar teacher, founder, and CEO, studied Music & Theater at Purchase College before completing his degree at Suny Westchester.
