""After 20 years, I still choose Steve as my massage therapist! I've experienced many, including those at some top world destination spas, and no one holds a candle to Steve. He listens to your needs and intuitively senses your best approach plus applies feedback. Steve is a very professional and talented practitioner with multiple service offerings. Over the years, my favorites have become his Reiki infused Swedish and deep tissue massage and the ULTIMATE is his Thai massage. You've got to try Steve's Thai massage!! I've even had Thai massage in Thailand and still - Steve is better!! I highly recommend him. You won't be disappointed.""

"I was very satisfied with my massage from William. Being that this was my first time with him and I usually don't work with male therapists, out of safety concerns, I asked him if he could come to my place for the massage which he happily accepted (for an additional fee). He came in right on time, we chatted a bit and then he got right to my 60 min session which was a mix of Swedish and deep tissue per my request. My body feels more relaxed and I definitely recommend him as a massage therapist. Very easy going and as a woman, the most important for me was to feel safe with a male therapist which I did. Would def hire him again in the future!"

"Dianelle did such a beautiful job on my hair and make up for my wedding. She is so sweet and truly was a pleasure to work with. I even bawled my eyes out the entire time and my make up didn't budge. She was even willing to drive to my parents house an hour away on short notice. She is very accommodating and her prices were reasonable. I would definitely hire her again."

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What is Thai massage?

Thai massage, also called Thai yoga massage, combines acupressure and assisted yoga postures. Thai massage is based on the flow of energy through the body and focuses on energy lines called “sen.” It doesn’t use oils or lotions and, instead of rubbing muscles, the massage therapist compresses, pulls, stretches and rocks the recipient’s body to promote the flow of energy through these sen. In this form of massage therapy, practitioners use their hands, knees, legs and feet to apply deep muscle compression and stretch the body. It’s often performed on a mat on the floor instead of on a massage table. Like most forms of massage, Thai massage is used to relieve stress, improve range of motion and enhance flexibility. Some people also use Thai massage to address a range of health issues, including:

  • Relieving tension headaches
  • Decreasing back pain
  • Reducing joint stiffness and pain
  • Stimulating circulation and lymphatic drainage
  • Boosting energy

Because a traditional Thai massage session covers all of the muscles in your body, it typically lasts 90 minutes to 120 minutes.

How much do you tip a massage therapist?

All forms of massage therapy, from Thai massage to Swedish massage to deep tissue massage, are similar to other spa or hospitality services. So it’s appropriate to tip a massage therapist the standard hospitality rate of 15 percent to 20 percent of the cost of the session. For example, the national average cost for a deep tissue massage is $70-$90, so expect to tip $12-$18. Of course, you can always tip more or less depending on your experience, especially if you’ve opted for extra services. For example, expect to tip more for a couple’s hot stone massage session that includes aromatherapy. Also, if you’re paying with a gift certificate or coupon, or purchasing a discounted multi-session package, make sure to calculate your tip based on the full price of the massage.
