Drum lesson for a total beginner - and Mike was terrific: kind, reassuring, extremely knowledgable. He had me playing to Hey, Jude before the session was over. And maybe above all, he made the whole experience lots of fun.

I have been going to Gary for 9 years. My girls have received lessons from him in piano, drums, bass guitar and vocals. Gary is an amazing and patient teacher, but more importantly, a wonderful person and friend! I highly recommend him to anyone of any age who has a passion for music. Gary is truly a talent!

Barb's Continuo Home Music Lessons provided home lessons to my son. Not only was the instructor very talented, but they knew exactly how to interact with a young person to keep his interest throughout the lesson and encouraged practicing beyond the lesson. Barb is always prompt and goes out of her way to accomodate scheduling issues.

I took guitar lessons for three years with Lou at U Music and the quality of instruction was incredible. Lou clearly knows what he's talking about when it comes to understanding the guitar. He provides a holistic and fun approach to learning the instrument, backed up by many years of experience as a musician and teacher. I would recommend him as a teacher to anyone from the earliest beginners to the most veteran guitar players. I'm also pleased to say that every one of the instructors at U Music is friendly and easy to talk to. I took voice lessons with Ann (which were also fun and helpful), and I've had numerous chats about music and other things with both Greg the bass teacher and Nick the drum instructor. Great people, great instruction in my experience, and altogether a great place to learn about the wonderful world of music.

I have had the honor of taking guitar lessons with Larry Meyer for about 3 years. Larry introduced me to the world of JAZZ and the concept of musical freedom through improvisation. Larry has truly inspired me to be a musician, and to think beyond my original guitar mind set. If you ask him a question, you will get an answer backed by a lifetime of musical exploration and experience, not to mention the serious undeniable pure talent. It is impossible to get a lesson from Larry and not be infected by his excitement of the music and the joy of revealing that infinite world to an aspiring player. I thank you Larry for your friendship and patience as you helped direct me through each musical stepping stone.

The drum lessons I've taken with John over the last few years have been invaluable to my drumming, whether it's solo in the studio or playing with others on stage. I had just started to play when we began lessons, working with stick control and timing. John provides an encouraging, positive atmosphere to build skills in technique and efficiency, and outlines practices and exercises to do on my own outside of the lessons. He also introduced me to essential warm up stretches and exercises, which are very handy for endurance or just ensuring I don't wear down too quickly while playing. John's lessons have been paramount to my goal of collaborating and performing with other musicians; I've advanced greatly since I first began studying with him. Highly recommended if you're just starting to play (as I was) or to fine tune your methods and learn something new if you've already been playing a while!

Chris Tibaldi gave both of my sons drum lessons for many years throughout elementary, middle school and high school. My sons had several drum instructors before we found Chris and they wish they had him from the start. He was by far the most talented drummer and teacher out of all of them, and always came prepared with a lesson to teach them if they did not have requests to learn a song or have something for school. They each grew so much as people and musicians because of Chris. My oldest son, already an advanced drummer, learned so much from Chris, who can teach and develop both beginners and advanced drummers. We could not have asked for a better instructor. My sons loved getting drum lessons from Chris and looked forward to their lesson each week. Chris is an outstanding drum instructor, who is extremely talented. Because of Chris's exceptional instruction both of my sons did NYSSMA, were selected for All County numerous times, went on to play in college and were even selected to be the drum major. If you are looking for someone to teach you or your child the value of music, particularly drums and percussion, there is no one better than Chris Tibaldi for the job.

This dude is amazing, he's crazy talented with the drums and has a lot of patience with kids. My 9 year old son has been going to him through out the summer time and he as been teaching him the basics of drumming (of course). He even started teaching my son how to read music. He is reasonably priced, his spot is a little small and dark but hey it works. When you meet him tell him to play a little something he'll definitely impress you!

Daryl is extremely good and gentle with my young child's emotionally and physically (& he is extremely active) while at the same time balancing that with being serious and firm. He is creative with his lesson plans tailoring them to my child's age, personality, favorite songs and knowledge base. My son loves going 'to see Mr. Daryl to play drums'. Daryl even provides homework and teaches my child each component of the drums... Which my son can name and he is only 3. My family just brought my son his own set of drums so he can continue to practice regularly.

As the drummer in my funk band, Middle Blue, Mike provides both an airtight rhythmic foundation and a sense of adventure. In other words, the beat is always concrete, but never *too* straight. He's always doing something interesting or mysterious with it. Also, he's full of surprises. Just the other day, he threw a rhythmic idea at me that I hadn't heard from him, and we've been playing together for over a year. If I were a drummer, I'd be excited to take lessons with Mike.

I began studying drums with Tony about 20 years ago when I was 9 years old. His musical and teaching expertise helped to lay a foundation for me that I owe a lot to. I ended up studying jazz guitar at a university world-renowned for its jazz program and a big part of what got me there was my understanding of rhythm and how to practice effectively - all of which I attribute to my formative years studying with Tony. I had the benefit of working with a number of renowned musicians and educators during my time in college (Mulgrew Miller, Harold Mabern, Gene Bertoncini, Vic Juris, and more) and Tony is one of the best teachers I’ve come across. I’ve since resumed my drum studies with Tony and I am seeing great results. He has a ton of ways to work on building coordination and ways to creatively apply the material so that you develop your own voice as a drummer. He has an incredibly vast knowledge of drums, rhythm and different styles. Tony is an outstanding drummer and educator and his personality and sense of humor make the lessons a great time. If you are serious about your musicianship and want to take your drumming to the highest level, study with Tony!

      About

Shawn Crowder offers drum lessons in NYC and online drum lessons on Skype. He is a graduate of the Berklee College of Music, and a regular guest faculty member at the Berklee Percussion Festival.

      About

Not only will you learn how to play an instrument, but very soon after learning the basics we will get into actual musicianship. If the student is a child, I would strongly suggest that a parent sit in on the lesson so that they know what I am teaching and will be able to help with practice at home.

      About

The Al Miller Drum School has been in existence for over 5 decades. It is an easy program to follow and has provided it's students with the tools needed to understand rhythm and technique. The system is based on Al's proven instructional method begun in 1951. Many of today's most well-known drummers have studied the Miller drum system, including Billy Cobham, Greg Bissenette and Rod Morgenstein, to name just a few. Even the great Buddy Rich recognized the value of his system and asked my father to teach him to read music. Since my father's passing in 2000, I've been expanding his method and personalizing it for the modern drummer.
