Excellent!!! Quick response and the job was done quickly and professionally. We hired Milton to knock down two old stone pillars, and the site was left in perfect condition. Highly recommend, and we will use him again soon!

David did an outstanding job cleaning up my landscape. He spent a lot of time pulling out the weeds which were really overgrown due to the abundance of rain. He also planted 2 small trees and some bushes. David then put down a thick layer of mulch very neatly around my entire property. At the last minute, I asked him to lay down some stone along my back fence which he agreed to do for a nominal fee. I am extremely pleased with the work he did. My landscape looks fantastic. I would use him again and would recommend him to anyone else.

We could not be MORE pleased with the work that Jorge and his crew did for our house. They created a beautiful stone patio and walkway that perfectly reflected our vision. They asked us to trust them and boy did it pay off. The work is top notch and they were so easy to work with with all of our middle of the project changes. They created a great project price that fit our budget needs and worked with us to modify it when necessary to accomplish our expanded demands. Jorge and his crew showed up on time every day - worked tremendously hard every day until the project was complete. I cannot recommend them enough.

Daniel and his guys did a great job installing oak hardwood floors in our 1,600 sq ft home. He also removed the previous tile, blue stone, replaced two sections of rotten subfloor, and leveled the surface. Overall it was 7 plus days for multiple guys and I feel he charges a fair price. I've already recommended him to my in-laws as they are updated the floors in their basement. Daniel is a great guy and you should definitely use him if you want a quality job for a good price.

Justin is very professional and takes pride in his work. He's very attentive to detail. He works really hard to get the job done. And on time. I had part of my yard reseeded. He and his crew were at my property on time and worked diligently. He's come back twice since the job was done to ensure that the grass is growing and he continues to monitor the progress. I highly recommend him. I will definitely use him again for my next project of installing pavers for my fire pit.

Thumbtack I've been wanting to have my stoops and garden beds restored for quite sometime and it has always been a hassle. Most of these contractors suck! They're like sleazy car salesman that prey on you and upcharge everything, so I sat on the project for quite sometime. However that all changed when I spoke and met with Lavan. Right from the start he was extremely vocal and responsive. He took the time to listen and understand what I wanted. Not only was he attentive but he offered more affordable suggestions, ensuring that I was aware of all possible options. He discussed the process and stone types he even went with my husband and I to the masonry! Everything was extremely professional, the contract was drawn and he stayed pretty close to his projected end date( in spite of bad weather). The end result was amazing! It turned out better than I would've imagined! And my neighbors love the new look. We will definitely use Lavan again.

A friend recommended Molina Landscaping when I mentioned I was looking for someone to build a stone wall at my house. I must say I am absolutely pleased with the finished job. Not only is Mr. Molina a very responsible person to work with, but he completed the job in the time frame he said and at a very reasonable price. I have recommended him to other people and will definetly continue to work with him for landscaping needs.

For such a big lawn he finished in no time and was kind enough to offer even more of his services. I will definitely be hiring them again in the future not only for landscaping but for any new home improvement projects. Thanks dan!

Hat City is a very professional company to work with and the quality of the work is excellent. They graded and laid gravel on a 1100' driveway and made recommendations that will help retain the shape and depth of the stone.

Was in desperate need of a backyard makeover after buying my house 4 months ago and fighting nonstop to bring the yard back to life myself. I finally gave up and let the professionals handle it. Anthony, Chris and the team fought a downpour and delays but got the job done in a day, 1450ft of sod, planted grasses and plants and roses, mulched the flower beds, put in a walkway of blue stone pavers. I finally have a yard I am proud to look at. Cant wait to see it in about 2 weeks when the sod starts to grow and the plants roots take hold, thanks again guys

The job was partial sidewalk replacement, JMBOC was extremely prompt responsding with the estimate, did the work right away, dealt with the incorporated village to make sure all regulations were complied with, and matched the color of the sidewalk as closely as possible. In two days they were completed, no mess, just perfect concrete were the cracked concrete stones had been. Would definitely recommend JMBOC.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How long does it take to install a hardwood floor?

Hardwood floor installation can take anywhere from a few days to more than two weeks, depending on demolition, wood type, the condition of your subfloor, total square footage of the project, and installation method. Demolition is necessary if you have existing flooring you want to replace with hardwood floors. New-construction homes do not require this step, as the subfloor is primed and ready for floor installation. During demolition, the flooring crew may find that your subfloor has damaged wood, uneven surfaces or other problems that must be addressed before the new wood can be laid down. Crews may charge on an hourly rate for subfloor repair, and the work can take a few hours to several days, depending on what’s hiding underneath your floor. The wood for your new floor generally arrives a few days before any work begins. This allows the wood to acclimate to the relative humidity in your house, which prevents it from shrinking or expanding after installation and causing gaps or buckling. The actual wood installation may take several days or more, depending on the size of your home and what type of custom cutting and designs are desired. If your flooring is not prefinished, the unfinished wood must then be sanded and stained in the home to treat and protect your new investment. Typically, stain takes a full day to dry, and multiple coats are applied. Baseboards and trim must also be installed. With all these variables at play, you can see why it’s important for a wood installation pro to provide an estimate only after seeing your home.

How much does it cost to install flooring?

On average, Thumbtack customers nationwide pay $5,500 for floor installation. The cost can range much lower or higher depending on the type of flooring you select (laminate is far less expensive than exotic hardwood), the square footage of the project, and other important variables like demolition and repair work needed. Here are some examples of average floor installation cost:

  • Basic floor installation cost: $3 per square foot (not including product).
    • This can range up to $7 or $8 per square foot when tear-out and prep work is required.
  • Laminate floor and installation cost: $3-$8 per square foot.
    • Laminate is one of the most affordable materials and can start as low as $1.50 per square foot.
  • Wood floor installation cost: $3 per square foot (not including product).
    • $7 and up for hand-scraped oak planks and other specialized work.
  • Luxury vinyl tile installation: $3.50+ per square foot (not including tiles).
    • Cost includes prep work, underlayment, leveling and grouting.
  • Examples of additional floor installation costs:
    • Pouring concrete to level the under-flooring: $1,000-$1,500 for materials and labor.
    • Removing carpet: 35 cents or more per square foot.
    • Removing difficult ceramic or porcelain tile: about $2.25 per square foot.
      • Includes removal of the dura rock.
  • Floor repair: $75 minimum.

How much does it cost to install hardwood floors?

The cost of hardwood floors will depend primarily on the total square footage of flooring, the type of wood you select, the cost of labor in your region, and any preparation or repair work that needs to take place before installation. Selecting exotic woods, such as teak, will result in a higher cost for the project than a more affordable wood such as oak. The national average cost of hardwood floor installation is $5,750. Here are some examples of different woods and their average costs; actual costs will vary depending on the factors listed above.

  • Basic wood floor installation: $3 per square foot from a wood floor installation company.
    • The product cost for hand-scraped ¾-inch oak planks: $7 per square foot.
  • 620 square feet of maple floor:
    • Residential installation, total project cost: ~ $2,400 with five days of labor.
    • ¾-inch dark stained maple installed on top of new concrete in three rooms, a hallways, and a staircase.
      • Cost for total project: ~$3.87 per square foot.

How much are oak hardwood floors?

Installing oak hardwood floors can add value and beauty to your home. The cost of hardwood floors is typically based on the overall square footage of your new floor, the type of oak you select, any repair work your subfloor requires prior to installation, and any demolition costs to remove your old flooring. Other factors that will affect your total cost can include the regional cost of labor and business overhead of your flooring company.

A flooring installation company may charge $3 per square foot for standard installation. For hand-scraped (higher-end) ¾-inch oak planks, the cost is approximately $7 per square foot, for a total cost per square foot of about $10 as long as no repair work is required. Standard oak planks are available from big-box stores for as low as $3 per square foot, so the quality of oak you want will affect your total project cost.
