About this pro

How does your business stand out?

My focus is on having fun and tending to and nurturing each individual's needs. I am also more willing and available to travel to my student's residence if they wish.

What do you enjoy about the work you do?

I like to learn and each time I give a student a lesson I also get a lesson in return. It doesn't have to be a musical lesson; it can be a life lesson, and so forth.

We hired James to play instrumental guitar for our mom’s 100th birthday party. Frankly… he was great! On the day of the event he arrived on time, set up quickly, and got right to work. He played a wide variety of music throughout the afternoon including music from the 1940’s, exactly as we had requested. In addition to being a gifted musician, James was professional, competent and gracious to all of our guests. He was a pleasure to work with. James, thanks so much for a job well done!

My wife and I hired James to play guitar for the processional and recessional of our wedding ceremony. We had very specific plans for the songs and arrangements we wanted to hear, and James was able to accommodate by learning and tweaking them in a very short amount of time. He communicated with us frequently throughout the process and sent us videos to make sure we were happy with the results. On the day of the wedding, he arrived on time and with the necessary equipment, and set things up with the coordinator/officiant so that we didn't have to worry about anything ourselves. And, of course, he played the songs exactly as we'd hoped, helping to make our ceremony a perfect and memorable one. James, I'm glad you found my listing here, and thanks for everything!

Q&A

What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I hold a B.S. in Music Performance from SUNY New Paltz. I also have been playing on major cruise ships since 2016. I did one contract with Carnival cruises and one with Princess where I traveled around Australia, Hawaii, Tahiti (Bora Bora), Southeast Asia, and New Zealand.
How did you get started doing this type of work?
Throughout my life, I have had various experiences where music seemed to shine through all else and lead people to a realm of pure happiness and joy. It can be older folks reminiscing their past by listening to old favorite songs and singers (I learned this from working in a nursing home). It has many spiritual and healing properties and I think that is very important. Music goes much deeper than most of us may realize.
What questions should customers think through before talking to professionals about their project?
Music can be, but doesn't always have to be taken so seriously. It is meant to foster creativity, and what comes out is an expression of the person. That doesn't have to be good or bad. Always try to have fun first, or find ways to make something not-so-fun, fun. This is how I cater to each student's individual needs, because everyone likes to do things differently and there is never just 1 way to accomplish or do something.
