Sorry this pro can’t do your job, but we know other pros who can.
Introduction: I offer lessons in piano, organ, and advanced voice. Piano and Organ: Lessons are the same quality one would find in a conservatory preparatory or extension division. I specialize in a piano course for beginning adults and returning adult students who want to progress further. My students range in age from 5 to 76. I appreciate the differences in how individuals learn, and seeing each student achieve the joy of mastery. I have a Steinway grand in a lovely, private home setting in Hopewell Junction, off exit 15 on I-84, exit 16 on the Taconic, route 52 and route 82 Voice: Lessons are for people 16 years old and up. Voice training is based on bel canto technique, which produces a pure, focused tone suited to classical singing. We study basic scales and arpeggios to develop range and accurate pitch, then move on to Italian art songs. I have worked with aspiring professionals, students applying to conservatories, people preparing to sing roles in opera and legit musical theater, and those who simply want to sing for their own enjoyment. I also assist with Italian, French and German pronunciation. I enjoy interacting with all of my students as a mentor and friend. Best, Denise Bassen Bachelor of Music, The Mannes College, Master of Music, Binghamton University

I have absolutely loved my experience taking piano lessons from Denise. I re-started piano lessons after a long time away from formal lessons (have not taken lessons since I was a teenager), and Denise's passion for and knowledge of music truly rekindled my love for piano. Her lessons are methodical and builds a wonderful technical foundation that allows you to feel confidence in your skills and capacity to master difficult music. She is especially great when it come to teaching Bach, and has added a lot to my knowledge of and sensitivity to music. A wonderful experience! She's generous and patient as well. I recommend her enthusiastically for any age or stage of playing.

I really like her approach to teaching piano, from how the piano itself is constructed to make sounds, to finger work and melody development. My son is progressing nicely, she's able to recongnize leverage the natural abilities of her students to grow and enhance other skills in a way that is encouraging and fun.

Denise was my piano teacher for almost 10 years- from fourth grade through twelfth grade. I started playing music by just messing around on a keyboard making up little songs. Soon after, my parents found Denise for me and it was the best decision they could have made. She has made me a confident and competent pianist. She classically trained me- teaching me favorites like Clair De Lune and the Moonlight Sonata, but also technically challenging pieces such as numerous pieces from Bach’s Well Tempered Clavier. She gave me direction and taught me everything I know about music. However, she also gave me the liberty to determine what pieces I wanted to learn and how to use our time together. One of my favorite things about Denise is how nurturing she is. When I went away to college, I took piano lessons and my teacher there was very strict. I realized that a lot of people taking lessons were used to strict teachers. Musicians seem to think that music educators need to be strict and unaccommodating in order to inspire greatness. However, she is an incredible musician in her own right, and an incredible teacher. She was always very patient with me over the years, and I always loved coming to lessons. Every lesson, every week, I looked forward to my time with her. Denise is an exceptional teacher. She teaches skills and pieces that go far beyond the highest ranks recognized by the state school exams. She teaches you skills that make you feel extremely confident in playing and performing. I would recommend Denise as a teacher to anyone. Whether you want to get a teacher for a child or for someone later in life; whether you want to take lessons as a hobby or as a serious student- Denise is the teacher for you. Nobody played music in my family and I stumbled upon the piano by chance. Music is how I express myself. I play piano, play guitar, sing, and write music. I owe all of my musical ability to Denise. If it were not for Denise’s direction I would never have had that gift. Regardless of whether you live in her area or an hour away, I recommend Denise as a teacher for anyone and everyone

Piano lessons for my child for almost ten years, and I have been in the room for most of those. An excellent teacher, with an amazing ear and a wonderful combination of demanding and supportive. I truly believe that because of her, my teenager will be a lifelong musician.

Piano lessons are $65/hr., $50/45 min., and $35/30 min. I have a Steinway B grand piano in my studio Organ lessons are pro rated at $70/hr I have a 2 manual Allen organ in my studio Voice lessons are pro rated at $80/hr Classical technique, repertoire, and language coaching

  • What is your typical process for working with a new customer?

All students are made to feel welcome and at ease. Learning music is a process. Students should never worry that they are being judged. Many students are returning adults. We chat a bit, and if they can play something, they are invited to. If they are timid, we talk about what they have worked on in the past. Young students learn the notes on the keyboard, music notation, and basic figures on the keyboard.

  • What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

I have a Bachelor of Music degree from the Mannes College of Music in New York City, and a Master's Degree in Organ Performance from Binghamton University. I was awarded Regional Finalist in the Metropolitan Opera Auditions held annually in New York. I have sung professionally in recital, oratorio and opera, and am a professional organist and choir director for Catholic, Reformed, and Episcopal liturgies.
