Piano Lessons (for adults)
It was a great experience. Very simple to use the web site, had a quick response and scheduled a lesson on the first phone call. Would definetly recommend this site to my friendsFeb 2, 2017Verified
I have absolutely loved my experience taking piano lessons from Denise. I re-started piano lessons after a long time away from formal lessons (have not taken lessons since I was a teenager), and Denise's passion for and knowledge of music truly rekindled my love for piano. Her lessons are methodical and builds a wonderful technical foundation that allows you to feel confidence in your skills and capacity to master difficult music. She is especially great when it come to teaching Bach, and has added a lot to my knowledge of and sensitivity to music. A wonderful experience! She's generous and patient as well. I recommend her enthusiastically for any age or stage of playing.Apr 23, 2019Verified
Denise has been our son's piano teacher for more than 7 years now and it has been an wonderful experience. His musical ability and maturity has improved substantially over the years. In addition, Denise's instruction has given him enough confidence in his musical abilities to learn to play pieces he found on the internet and to look beyond the piano; he has since learned to play the flute and the accordion as well. I truly believe Denise's personality and teaching methods makes learning and playing music a joy and not a chore.Aug 20, 2016
Piano lessons for my child for almost ten years, and I have been in the room for most of those. An excellent teacher, with an amazing ear and a wonderful combination of demanding and supportive. I truly believe that because of her, my teenager will be a lifelong musician.Nov 15, 2014
Denise Bassen has been a wonderful piano teacher to my son for five years, and I can recommend her with all my heart. I started him in lessons with the idea of "trying" some musical instruction, but it has become much more than that. Yes, he has learned to play beautifully under her direction, but it's so much more than that. She approaches each lesson with him in a way that is like a collaboration of minds. She speaks to him not as a child, but as an individual. She knows his strengths and his weaknesses, and she brings out the best in him. I honestly believe that the interpersonal interaction that goes on between the two of them is as valuable as the music work. Additionally, she opens her home to me during each lesson, so I can see the learning that goes on and enjoy the beautiful music...it is a treat each week to go to Denise's house. Her satisfied students are many....if you ask a music student at my son's school where they study, chances are it's with Denise! She is dedicated to her music and to her students, beyond a shadow of a doubt.Dec 4, 2014
- What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?Piano lessons are $65/hr., $50/45 min., and $35/30 min. I have a Steinway B grand piano in my studio Organ lessons are pro rated at $70/hr I have a 2 manual Allen organ in my studio Voice lessons are pro rated at $80/hr Classical technique, repertoire, and language coaching
- What is your typical process for working with a new customer? All students are made to feel welcome and at ease. Learning music is a process. Students should never worry that they are being judged. Many students are returning adults. We chat a bit, and if they can play something, they are invited to. If they are timid, we talk about what they have worked on in the past. Young students learn the notes on the keyboard, music notation, and basic figures on the keyboard.
- What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?I have a Bachelor of Music degree from the Mannes College of Music in New York City, and a Master's Degree in Organ Performance from Binghamton University. I was awarded Regional Finalist in the Metropolitan Opera Auditions held annually in New York. I have sung professionally in recital, oratorio and opera, and am a professional organist and choir director for Catholic, Reformed, and Episcopal liturgies.
