May 18, 2012 Chef Monterroso's services were a " 40th " birthday gift to my nephew who lives in New York. I, however, am located in Arizona and had made the arrangements over the telephone. His pleasant tone, accomodating demeanor, warmth and customer service skills are absolutely amazing. He was so intuitive regarding the menu choices and other requests that I knew immediately that he would be my choice. My nephew and his family were totally pleased. He telephoned me the moment Chef Oscar left his home. My nephew said he was totally blown away by the professionalism, warmth, customer service skills, knowledge and overall service. He could not say enough complimentary things about the food preparation, taste and choices. He and his wife are already making plans to contact him for several upcoming occasions. I would definitely recommend him to any one whether in state or out of state. You definitely get MORE than your money's worth. ONE DRAWBACK: I wish I had been there to savor all of the great food about which my nephew raved. LOL

Chef Oscar and his staff were outstanding. They pulled off dinner for 30 in a private home with the guests mingling around in the kitchen, which is no small feat. We are already booking him for our next event!

Chef Oscar is absolutely incredible and I cannot recommend him highly enough - we had him and his chef Chris do a four course dinner for a group of 10 for my fiancé's birthday dinner - Asian inspired with chicken satay, short rib, wasabi mashed potatoes... one of the best meals. He came on time, prepared and left the kitchen cleaner than before- so pleasant to work with, already planning the time we can work together!

We have had Oscar cook for us on several occasions. As an overall general statement, I do not hesitate to say that his food is delicious (and my husband is a "foodie"). His ingredients are always fresh and the pride he takes in the kitchen is enviable. He was extremely accomodating to whatever need or desire we had and is flexible in everything from the choice of food, to the amount of money we wanted to spend, to his presence in our home. I would not hesitate to highly recommend Oscar to anyone interested in having a private or personal chef or catering for an occasion. He is skillfull in cooking many different types of dishes and will often surprise you in how delicious and unique he can make ordinary dishes taste out-of-this-world. We will definitely have him back soon.

  • How did you get started doing this type of work?

    I was fifteen when I first started working as a bus boy at Papa Marc Bistro. Since then I never left the field. I moved up to waiter and then one day decided that I wanted to learn how to make pizza. My best friend Mario opened up Marra's restaurant and I worked my way up. Twice a week making pizza and four times a week in the Pantry station. Before you know it I was sauteing Gnocci pesto and making Chicken Sorrentino:) There was no turning back...I thank God I stuck to the restaurant industry. There's nothing I love more than making people happy through the dishes I put out.

  • Describe a recent project you are fond of. How long did it take?

    Well I recently did a catering job for a church out in Cheshire CT, called Calvary Life Worship Center. There was about 30 people from the church. All pastors and elders with wives. It was a blessing to serve people from the church who are not very familiar with gourmet cuisine. I served mixed greens with crumbled goat cheese, dried pomegranate, roasted walnuts, and diced red onion in a white balsamic reduction....Poached Chicken wrapped in prosciutto stuffed with Italian sausage(fresh herbs) than sliced into medallions...Overall everyone was happy and it was great to help out the church.

  • What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?

    I would suggest you figure out your budget and then decide what kind of food you would want your personal chef too cook for you. Some people have allergies and have personal diet restrictions such as vegan or gluten free. You would want a chef that specializes in those certain areas. I myself am a gourmet chef that specializes in Italian Cuisine. I would be perfect for a party of four or eight where you would want too really impress your guests.....or maybe even a romantic dinner:) You should definately do some research. And last you should see that they have their ServeSafe certificate which shows they know how too handle food properly.
