Tim did a fall cleanup for me (Pendleton) which included leaf removal, gutters, and tree trimming. He was professional and worked really hard for several hours despite the drizzle of rain. I was completely satisfied with the quality of work and his prices were very fair. Highly recommend Tim.

Top notch in customer service, creativity and quality Rock Hard Fence provides one of the best contractor experiences we’ve ever enjoyed. Within minutes of placing our project on the internet, owner Eric Kolpack responded. Within a week, we had met with him and a plan was created composed of many of his professional suggestions and creative solutions. The project involved a 6-foot trellis topped fence, two gates – one trellis and one to house the air conditioners and a panel to place between garages. Each time we contacted Eric, he responded within minutes. And, he was always on time. The crew, brother Adam and their friend Dave, spent three days installing the fence and gates. They knew what they were doing and approached each step of the project with expertise and teamwork. The fence was installed board by board (no panels). In addition to the fence, we also wanted some creative items: an arbor over the main gate and cat perches in the crabapple tree. Enter Adam who has his own company, ABK Custom Exteriors. By fall, he will come on site and design and build these two items. Adam also preps and stains fences and will provide us with this service as well when the wood is ready. And we must mention Dave Amoia, a contractor in his own right, whose problem-solving abilities and wry humor totally compliment the brothers Kolpack.

My husband and I hired Adam and his crew to remove a massive black walnut tree in our backyard. We live right in the middle of two other houses where our yards are separated by fences with little accessibility to our backyard for equipment from out front. This job was going to be far from easy or convenient, but Adam and his crew did an outstanding job of coming in and removing the entire tree and it only took 2 days! Although 2 days seems like a long time for a tree removal, they had to work around a tough environment and a large tree, and we were very pleased with how quickly and how clean they did the job. Adam and his crew were always on time, communicated very well, and went above and beyond for us. We were very happy with the end result and how clean our yard looked when they left. We will definitely continue to hire him for other tree and landscape jobs. We can't thank him enough!

LTD was great. Jim was friendly and nice to work with. He provided some great suggestions for what to do in the yard to make it look nice. The work was completed in a timely manner. They removed weeds from the side of the house and behind the garage where it was overgrown. They trimmed a very tall bush. They put mulch down in several areas. They removed 3 tree stumps in the back yard and put grass seed down after. The yard work and the mulch they put down look great. I'm happy with the quality of the work and would recommend them to anyone.

This was my 1st experience with Thumbtack. I needed a contractor to replace 2 squares (blocks) of concrete in my front sidewalk. Since this is a very small job, most cement contractors do not want the job. T.C Powerwash was the only one who responded, and the job exceeded my expectations. Tyler gave an over the phone estimate, then followed up with a visit. Since I needed a load of gravel the estimate was a bit higher, but still $100 less than I was quoted a year ago by a contractor who never showed up. I was called several times to inform me when work would begin, and the weather did not cooperate. One day the old blocks were out, wooden frame in. A few days later (after a period of rain) concrete was poured. The next day after the concrete set, the frame was removed. This is the best part, the grass that was removed in plugs was replaced, extra top soil was added to fill in any cracks, and he added some grass seed. No one finishes with landscaping after concrete work. Job well done. I am satisfied & highly reccomend.

Our front yard was overgrown bushes, weeds, even some random "trees" that had sprouted up. It became overwhelming. And it was u g l y. Cody's team totally transformed the whole look of our house! They paid special attention to plant types, understanding that we needed low maintenance. All of their recommendations were spot-on. In just 3 days, it looked amazing! Reasonable prices, hard-working, respectful staff...I could not be any happier.

        Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How much does it cost to trim a tree?

The national price range for tree trimming is $270-$450. Tree trimming is often done by a professional arborist who is trained to safely trim and prune trees for both the health of the tree and the safety of the residents and their property. Trying to do your own tree trimming is not advisable unless you have the proper know-how. Tree trimming companies may charge an hourly rate for their services. The hourly rate may be higher or lower for different trees to reflect the relative safety measures, skill, equipment or people power needed to handle the job. For this reason, most tree services provide free estimates.

One example of an hourly rate for professional tree trimming services is $150 per hour. Costs may be under $100 or could be higher than $300 per hour, depending on variables such as proximity to buildings, health of the tree, height and diameter of the tree, and type of tree trimming desired. Geography and regional cost of living and regional costs to do business will also play a role in your tree removal costs.

How much does it cost to remove a tree stump?

Once you have a tree cut down, you’ll probably want to remove the tree stump as well. You may want the stump removed for aesthetics, the tree stump could be diseased, you might want to prevent regrowth, or you may find the roots are causing problems and need to be removed. Tree removal costs don’t always include the cost to grind out or dig out a tree stump after the tree has been felled and the trunk removed. The national average cost for stump removal ranges from $150 to $200. There are two main methods for dealing with tree stumps. In grinding, pros use a chipping machine to grind away the above-level tree stump until it sits just below the soil surface. Tree stump removal entails lifting the entire root ball of a tree out of the soil. Removing the stump will leave a hole in the ground and also take more time, labor and money than stump grinding. Here are some examples of average tree stump removal costs:

        • Stump grinding: $2-$4 per inch.
        • Tree stump removal: average of $60-$350.

The final price will depend on the stump’s size, condition, location and condition of the soil around it.

How much does it cost to remove a fallen tree?

If you need to have a tree cut down, have you planned what will happen next? Arborists often charge an additional fee to quarter and remove the fallen tree from your property, so anticipate this as part of your tree removal costs. You can elect to have the wood cut for use in your fireplace, or you may prefer to have it hauled away completely.

Tree removal costs may vary based on the height and the width of the felled tree. Size affects the labor required for removal, which will be reflected in the cost. For example, a tree service company may charge an additional $100-$120 to haul away the pieces of a felled tree. The service may cost as little as $75 in some regions and more than $150 in others. Regional labor rates, the cost of living and the cost to do business in your area will be reflected in your tree removal cost.

How much does it cost to cut a tree down?

When you’re ready to have a tree on your property come down, it’s time to call an arborist. The national average price range for tree-trimming costs is $270-$450. Tree removal costs can vary based on the height, diameter, location and health of the tree, and on whether you want to remove the stump. Height plays a major role in tree removal costs. Small trees, no more than 30 feet tall, are usually thinner in diameter and easier and safer for an arborist to manage. Removal of a small tree can cost anywhere from under $150 to over $450. Removal of medium-height trees, from 30 feet to 60 feet tall, could cost anywhere between $150 and $850 or more. Tall trees, typically 60 feet to 80 feet tall, may start at $500 or cost more than $1,000 to cut down. As the height and diameter increase, so does the cost.

Location is critical, too. Removing a tree in an open space is quicker and presents fewer obstacles than removing a tree that is growing flush to your house. Arborists can assess your tree and provide you with quotes based on the variables involved. For example, removing a medium-size hackberry tree that was growing too close to a home — the roots were damaging the home’s foundation — cost $1,500. This price included rope-down, house protection, tree quartering and stacking, and stump removal.

How much does it cost to cut down a massive tree?

If you have to remove a big, beautiful tree from your property, you’ll definitely need an arborist. Cutting down a massive tree without the proper tools or training can lead to major property damage or injury. A huge tree may need to be removed if it is diseased or dying and poses a safety risk, has suffered a blow from a storm and isn’t safe, or is growing into your home, your home’s foundation, your septic system, or your power lines. Removal costs for such large trees will depend on the tree’s height, diameter, and relative safety and accessibility, as well as whether you also need the felled tree and stump removed. The bare minimum for removal of a tree over 75 or 80 feet would be $1,000. This may not include tree quartering and removal or stump grinding. Stump grinding ranges on average from $2 to $4 per inch of the stump’s diameter. There is no set price as each situation is unique, so it’s always best to have an arborist give you a quote and detail exactly which services are included in the price.
