"I was very satisfied with my massage from William. Being that this was my first time with him and I usually don't work with male therapists, out of safety concerns, I asked him if he could come to my place for the massage which he happily accepted (for an additional fee). He came in right on time, we chatted a bit and then he got right to my 60 min session which was a mix of Swedish and deep tissue per my request. My body feels more relaxed and I definitely recommend him as a massage therapist. Very easy going and as a woman, the most important for me was to feel safe with a male therapist which I did. Would def hire him again in the future!"

"Naceel gave us the best price! We couldn't believe it!! You have to contact him and request him to see for yourself! Naceel gave us the best massage. I always get massages but I have to say this was the best massage! Today was my first time having the massage done at the comfort of my home. I wasn't sure how it would be. But the experience was great and privacy of my home. I was so relaxed and even took a nap after. It felt great that I didn't have to travel home. I was already home. Me and my mom got the massage. I am going to refer him to everyone. Again, no one can beat his price! He care about the clients and not the money. I wanted the massage very often and he told me based on my weight that I didn't need as much as I wanted the massage. Naceel will work with you individually and let you know how many sessions you would need for optimal health. He cares about his clients. He is fantastic!"

"I am a 53 year old woman that for the past 8 years have been my disabled sons primary caregiver. My body has a lot of physical demand on it. Yury was quick to make me feel comfortable, he followed my lead on conversing at different times which was appreciated. I had a deep tissue massage, he read my body very well on what needed the greatest attention to get the most benefit. I would gladly have him back. Thank you very much."

"I had such a good massage here today. I tried the Thai combination massage and it was amazing- deep and firm but not painful. Kate has a unique talent in Thai therapy, trained in many authentic Thai massage styles, plenty of knowledge on anatomy and a sixth sense in finding the right touch. The place is nice very clean and good music. It really good price for the quality offered. I can't wait to come back to try the traditional Thai massage and foot massage. Highly recommend!"

"I finally found a therapist who works the whole body thoroughly with deep tissue massage! I really appreciate that she doesn't rush and just do body parts that ache or are not in alignment. Her organic approach works for me. I've been seeing her regularly and I've already referred her to a friend. Thank you!"

"As the daughter of 2 fitness junkies, you would think I would be destined to follow in their footsteps right? Not really. At 17 years of age I was that typical teenage girl happy with her skinny "perfect" body. Kobi, training my parents for 5+ years had been pushing to me to go to the gym for a year... I never understood why. I was happy with the way I looked. As soon as I started to train, I kept looking around seeing how good everyone was at training when I couldn't even do a simple push up. That's when I realized how frail my body AND my mind was. Kobi opened my eyes and made me realize how fitness isn't just about looks, it's about keeping your mind healthy. And when you feel good (you'll look good) your mind will be happy :) Stop the excuses. The "I can't do it" and "This is too hard for me" won't get you where you want to be. Trust Kobi, that's what I did. I'm confident that in 40 years I'll feel the same way as I do now after Kobi's workouts. As a I walk down those steps back into my car I feel like I'm on top of the world, like I could take down anything. I'm no expert yet but I can't wait to get there! Kobi, along with my parents give me the strength and confidence to keep going everyday. And I have Kobi to thank for, for everything."

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What is a deep tissue full body massage?

A deep tissue full body massage is a form of healing bodywork. At your first massage, your massage therapist will do a brief intake. They will ask you questions about the type of pressure you’d like to receive during your deep tissue massage, any previous massage experience you’ve had, and any injuries or sensitivities you have. You can remain clothed, or the massage therapist will provide draping so that even if you’re not wearing clothes you are always fully covered. Deep tissue massage may be a good option for people with chronic pain or muscle tension. The systematic deep tissue strokes will work to break down any scar tissue or stiff tissues and create ease in your body again. Massage therapists use their hands, forearms, fists and knuckles to knead and stroke your muscles and loosen adhesions. Although deep tissue massage work is intense, it should not be painful, so communicate clearly with your massage therapist so they know if you’re having any discomfort. The national average cost of a deep tissue massage is between $70 and $90.

Do deep tissue massages work?

Deep tissue massage not only feels fabulous, it can provide results. The massage technique targets deeper layers of muscle and your connective tissue. For its ability to stimulate those deeper muscles, deep tissue massage is commonly used during recuperation from sports-related and other injuries, according to the Mayo Clinic. Deep tissue massage has been proved to reduce high blood pressure and a range of other ailments. Deep tissue and other types of massage are frequently used for relieving stress, managing pain, breaking down scar tissue, relieving muscle tension and improving health. The National Center for Complementary and Integrative Health cites the following as health conditions for which that deep tissue massage can provide relief:

  • Chronic low back pain, chronic neck pain, and osteoarthritis of the knee
  • Labor pains
  • Depression and anxiety
  • Fibromyalgia pain and fatigue
  • Headaches
  • HIV/AIDS

The proper deep tissue massage may also benefit preterm infant health. Cancer patients may experience reduced pain, increased relaxation, and improved mood.

What is the purpose of a deep tissue massage?

There are many reasons to get a deep tissue massage. A deep tissue massage can release adhesions — also known as knots — that are causing painful tension in your muscles. Deep tissue massage can promote healing and ease discomfort related to illnesses such as cancer, chronic headaches, osteoarthritis of the knee, chronic neck or back pain, depression, and more, according to the National Center for Complementary and Integrative Health. If you have an old sports injury such as shin splints, or a bad back from an old car accident, deep tissue massage can promote healing in your traumatized and scarred soft tissues and get you on the road to recovery. The strokes and techniques used in deep tissue massage work to lengthen soft tissue structures that have stiffened and hardened into knotty adhesions that allow minimal movement. Deep tissue massage can loosen these adhesions so that long-standing scar tissue releases and you can gain more mobility and more freedom from stiffness and pain. And it just feels good. The national average cost of a deep tissue massage is between $70 and $90.

What is the difference between a deep tissue massage and a Swedish massage?

Deep tissue massage and Swedish massage are both forms of therapeutic bodywork. In both modalities, a licensed massage therapist uses strokes administered with their hands or forearms to loosen and relax your muscles and other soft tissue. These releases can promote relaxation, pain relief and wellness.

Deep tissue massage may be an excellent therapeutic choice for people with chronic pain or severe tension in their muscles. The deep tissue massage technique moves below the top layer of muscle and soft tissue to release adhesions in your core muscles. In comparison, the strokes used in Swedish massage focus on loosening and relaxing the top layer of your soft tissues. Swedish massage produces relaxation and well-being, but if you have a long-term injury or back pain that won’t seem to go away, deep tissue massage may be a better option for you. The systematic deep tissue strokes will work to break down any scar tissue or stiff tissues and create ease in your body again.
