I’ve had other roofers work on my roof as recent as last year and the fact that I needed a roofer this year says it all. Needless to say, I’ve been very skeptical about roofers. However, hiring American Brothers GC was the best roofing decision I’ve ever made. Give them a try – you can’t go wrong. I was very impressed by the roofing work they did for me. They were thorough, very professional and very accommodating. They went above and beyond to ensure the job was done right! I am so pleased that I’ve already decided to hire them for another job.

Fausto and his crew were extremely professional and courteous. They arrived when they said they would, and completed the job quickly and without complication. While servicing my gutters, Fausto identified some potential trouble areas in need of maintenance. He drove back to my home the next day with several estimates. Truly professional and obviously attempting to establish long term working relationships with his clients.

We could not be happier with the final result. We were super impressed with the professionalism, and extremely hard work ethic that Alex and his team posessed. The team is extremely skilled and I would highly recommend them for any and all projects for which they advertise. They constructed a masonry wall/fence for us and it came out far beyond our expectations. Coureous, trustworthy, and professional. Do no hesitate to call Alex.

Jeffery was absolutely excellent! I hired him to install my garage door openers. He recommended I get better garage door openers and offered to come the next day instead to do the job which shows he cares about the work he does since he could have just done the job and been on his way. He came back the next day, did a superior job and even put in additional steel reinforcements to hold up the garage door openers instead of the flimsy ones that come in the box. He was also reliable - came when he said he would, would text if he was going to be late and took his time doing the job. If you need a job done by him, hire him!

Melvin and his team did an excellent work in repairing the drywall cracks and reinstalling the baseboard. The baseboard I had was not long enough to cover, so his team member actually went to Home Depot to pick one for me, which really helped my time. Melvin is a very detail-oriented person. I expected he would do some touch-ups on the affected area only, but he actually painted the whole wall because he wanted it to be perfect. Also, the price he quoted was very reasonable. I would definitely work with him again and highly recommend to others.

Renovation to my kitchen was exceptional. The selection of new cabinets, flooring, appliances and the backsplash were guided by their professional experience. The workers were skilled and knowledgeable. Work was done in a timely manner and I look forward to using All Remodeling again in the near future when I renovate and update my master bath. My roof developed leaks around the 2 skylights. I had one company come evaluate things and was told I needed to replace my entire roof, which was only 10 years old. Didn't even go up there to take a look what was going on. Was given a long sales pitch. Needless to say, I wasn't all that impressed. Wisebuild Construction was recommended to me by a family friend and I decided to try them out. David was extremely responsive and offered to come right away to evaluate things. To my relief he told me I didn't need a new roof. He said, sure, that would be the easy thing to do and would be a way to make money but he didn't want to offer me something I definitely didn't need, especially since the cause of the leak is clear. That said, above all else, he was a super nice guy and a gentleman. I knew I found the right professional for the job. When it came time to do the work, he worked around my schedule and a few weeks of bad weather to fit me in. He re-inspected the problem areas, confirmed the problem and fixed it all up. VERY professional. Super nice guy. On top of that, he followed things up by contacting me several times when it rained to check up on the work. Impressive service. The leak has been stopped and I am an extremely happy owner! I've dealt with many construction related companies in the past. I can say with utmost confidence that dealing with David Wisebuild Construction has been the most pleasant one so far. I highly recommend them for all your roofing needs!

It's been a pleasure to work with Nick and his crew. We needed major exterior work done, new siding, roof repairs and more random work. I have worked with a lot of contractors, and so far Nick’s crew have been impressive. They have the experience and knowledge to give us good recommendations and helped us to save money by reducing the scope of unnecessary work. Their fee are also reasonable, we would have spent much more if not for their experienced inputs. Thank you, guys! Will definitely hire them again.

Sal, Luis and the rest of Jason's crew did a great job repairing the sagging roof and tilting walls of my detached garage as well as repairing the structural issues with - and staining/sealing - both my front porch and back deck. Their prep and cleanup were efficient and thoughtful. They even moved all the heavy furniture out of and back in my garage the day they repaired it! I will definitely use Liberty again for my future major home projects.

Kevin structurally fixed the framing in my 1925 farmhouse, reinsulated it (it had tarpaper insulation), raised the ceilings upstairs (his idea since there was only a small crawlspace there), re-roofed part of my house and several outbuildings, installed several vintage windows, rebuilt my interior stairs, structurally improved my basement, built several cedar closets, and improved my bathroom layout. He completed everything from demolition to framing to insulation and drywall/taping to painting. He also built a 4th stall in my horse barn in an atypical space. Kevin worked on my house/barn/outbuildings/roofs periodically over two years and improved/built/fixed everything wonderfully, from small details to new roofs to large framing corrections from what the original builders had done in 1925. He worked closely with me in the decision-making process, often providing me with ideas and improvements that had not occurred to me that resulted in a beautiful and functional living space far exceeding my expectations. Kevin was very cost-effective in his material choices – often re-using original 1925 materials that produced a period effect that also happened to be gorgeous. He was more than fair in his pricing, and I liked how he had me control the purchase/payment of materials directly so that I managed material costs and could transparently see what I was paying for without worrying about hidden costs or mark-ups. I have worked with several carpenters over time, and Kevin was far superior to any of them in his knowledge, experience, ideas and overall professionalism. He kept the job site very clean as I continued to live in my home while work went on, and he always made it as easy and comfortable as possible given the large scale of some remodel phases. Kevin has many sourcing resources - for example, I found a pair of vintage windows that were also energy efficient in a small store I hadn't heard of that really brought my dining room together. Kevin built a horse stall in my barn in the side section with a low, slanted roof. He made several adjustments to the ceiling before closing it in so that my horse had more head room. He had to create a 4th wall that was strong enough to stand up to a horse’s antics, which he partially did by creating a pocket door to add reinforcement. He was well versed with the safety requirements of horses, and my horse loves her new home. You can see several pictures of the stall on his website, hitthepin.com Kevin built several windows in the barn both for ventilation and so that my horses could see out, and he also fixed interior and exterior barn doors that were in need of facelifts to make them safe again. Kevin replaced the flat section of roof on my house (from an addition), thereby also fixing a leak around my chimney that four other roofing specialists had failed to correct. No more leak now! He also performed work on several of my farm outbuildings, from roofs, to gutters, to seating on an elevated deck. In summary, I found Kevin to be the ultimate professional and an innovative craftsman. His creativity and artistry add another dimension to his carpentry skills, which is a true benefit for his customers. I recommend Kevin and Hit the Pin to anyone who seeks a multi-faceted, talented artisan who works very hard, efficiently, courteously and cost-effectively.

It was a pleasure working with Bill. I was in a bit of a rush for a new roof and he was there immediately to give an estimate. He gave me a detailed description of everything that needed to be done including necessary repairs. His crew worked quickly and efficiently and finished the job in one day and only a few days after contracting the job. I am extremely satisfied and would highly recommend Lyndsey Roofing.

Fantastic roofing experience. We have a pretty big roof, Mark gave us a great quote, but I was really blown away by the professionalism of the whole crew. When halfway through the day the weather forecast for the next day started to turn, they brought a second crew in and I literally got a whole roof stripped, new boards where needed, new underlayment , and new shingles in a single day. They whole time Mark or his brother was always on site, and guys where constantly working to keep the whole yard clean. Cannot be happier and cannot rate them high enough.

My roof was destroyed by a storm. I called my insurance company (Allstate) and they were giving me $7k less then what I needed to fix the roof. A friend told me about Got to Remodel, I spoke with Rafael. Not only was he professional but after numerous calls and meetings with Allstate. My roof estimate was approved and Got to Remodel had it done 2 days later!! Highly recommend them. Thanks Ralph!

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What is a standing seam metal roof?

A standing seam metal roof may be a strong, durable, safe choice when you’re considering metal roofing installation options. A standing seam refers to the raised seam where the sheet metal roofing panels join. Traditionally, shingles and roof panels lie flush to the roof, making them more prone to rust or penetration by water at their seams. In a standing seam metal roof, the raised (or standing) seams run vertically from the roof ridge to the eaves, with no horizontal seams. In addition, the fasteners joining the metal panels together are concealed, providing even fewer opportunities for water or moisture to build up. The cost to install a standing seam metal roof will depend on the type of metal you select, the size of your roof, and the cost of roofing labor in your region. Materials will play a major role in your metal roofing installation costs. If you select standard galvanized steel, the cost per square (100 square feet) might be in the $150-$300 range, while a high-end choice such as copper or zinc could be between $1,000 and $1,500 per square. Here is one example of cost:

  • Standing seam metal roof: $300 per square to start, including materials and labor.
    • A 30-square roof could cost $9,000 or more.

Can a metal roof be installed over shingles?

Metal roofs are durable, environmentally friendly, safe and budget-friendly. If you’re considering an update, metal roofing installation doesn’t have to mean completely removing your old roof. In many cases, metal roofing can be installed over your existing shingles. Research building codes in your state, as many require that after two roofs have been installed, all roofing materials must be completely removed before a third roof can be put on. This protects your home’s structural integrity and your family’s safety. Carefully read contractor reviews and choose someone with extensive experience with metal roofing installation. One concern when installing metal over shingles is that over time, condensation can build on the shingles and cause the metal to rust. This will lead to rust around the panels, making them more likely to come loose in a storm. Nationally, the average cost for metal roofing installation ranges from $6,000 to $20,000. The wide price range represents different roof sizes, different types of metal, and the cost of labor in different parts of the country — and can also include the cost of removing an old shingle roof prior to installing the metal. As a line item, the average cost of removing an old roof to prepare for installing a new roof, plus adding new roof decking, costs on average about $45-$75 per square (the pro roofer’s term for 100 square feet), depending on the pitch of the roof. Always make sure you have a clearly written contract and a warranty on both the labor and the metal.

How much does it cost for a metal roof?

Metal roofing installation is an attractive option thanks to metal’s long lifespan, hardiness and fire-retardant properties. Nationally, the average cost for metal roofing installation ranges from $6,000 to $20,000.There are different types of metal roofs, each with their own installation needs and materials costs. Roof size also affects your metal roofing installation costs, as do regional labor rates. Roof size is measured in squares; one square equals 100 square feet. Here are some examples of the average cost for a metal roof:

  • Standard metal roof: $120-$150 per square to start, including materials and labor
    • A 30-square roof (a 3,000-square-foot roof) could cost between $3,600 and $4,500 for a typical three-bedroom home.
  • Snap-Loc metal roof: $200-$225 per square to start, including materials and labor.
    • A 30-square roof could cost $6,000-$6,750.
  • Standing seam metal roof: $300 per square to start, including materials and labor.
    • A 30-square roof could cost $9,000 or more.
  • Tuff-Rib metal roof: $250-$350 per square to start, including materials and labor.
    • A 30-square roof could cost $7,500-$10,500.
  • Mid-range metal roof package, including all accessories: $300-$500 per square.
    • A 30-square roof could cost $9,000-$15,000.
  • High-end metal roof package — such as zinc or copper — and all accessories: $1,000-$1,500 per square.
    • A 30-square roof could cost $30,000-$45,000.
