Introduction: I'm a Personality Type expert in addition to a teacher/tutor, so I'm uniquely attuned to the different thinking, testtaking, and interpersonal styles of each student.
I have experience (and excellent reviews) teaching people both one-on-one and in small classes (2-6 people), mid-size and large classes (up to as many as 35 students in a room). I love the art and science of managing a fun but productive one-on-one or classroom-wide learning experience.
I thrive at explaining things simply (step - by step - by step - by step...), and doing so vividly. Patience comes easily to me, too.
I plan our work in depth, in advance: from short-term to mid-term and long-term goals, to going through your mock exams problem by problem to find the very specific errors you might be making, to sending you follow-up emails after each lesson so that you can be sure of exactly what we're accomplishing, when, and where that leaves us on track to our over-arching objective.
I also hone in on the "lowest hanging fruits" of each test - the easiest areas to boost your score - be they content knowledge like grammar or plane geometry, or specific strategies like how to approach a Reading passage - and I really focus on those parts, so your score can jump.
like to put these tests in a broader perspective: of learning how to learn, how to identify and admit to what you don't know, how to find specific ways of practicing those tangible skills, how to take a big scary problem and break it down into each of its tiniest component parts (doing each one, THEN worrying about what the next step will be), and how to make work a constant but not-oversized part of your life, so that achievement and pride and confidence become constants in your life.
Connecting with students; the thrill of progress; learning about learning; learning about teaching.
