FAQs
- What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
During my master studies at Manhattan School of Music, I was introduced to very helpful teaching tools and methods such as "teach the student, not the subject". Having had a strong pedagogical education during my studies definitely changed the way I teach now. In addition, I think that it is very important as a teacher to stay active as a performer as well. Some of my students prepare for entrance auditions at conservatories so I have to be on top of my drumming to be able address all their questions properly.
- How did you get started doing this type of work?
It is the famous drummer story: I started banging on pots and pans before I could even walk. I had my first drum lessons at the age of 4. Finally after a workshop with famous drummer Jojo Mayer at the age of 14, I decided to become really serious about drumming. I had my first 3 students at the age of 16, when I took over the class from a retired drum teacher in my hometown. Ever since, I have been teaching continuously and have been enjoying every bit of it. My decision to become a professional musician happened after high school, when I attended a one year professional course at the Los Angeles Music Academy. I studied with some of the best drummers in the world including Mike Shapiro, Ralph Humphrey and Joe Porcaro. That experience gave me the confidence to pursue music as a career.
