Elena at Le Fleuriste is everything you want in a florist. She is full of whimsy and charm, but also completely pragmatic and economical. We had a summer party for our office, and gave her free reign -- within a very tight budget. She came up with a Pimms Cup themed arrangement that included bright yellow peonies and springs of real blackberries and mint! I have since used her for two engagement parties and a wedding, and both brides were completely floored by how personal she made their arrangements. I have been completely spoiled by Le Fleuriste and can't buy flowers from anyone else!

Elena did the flowers for our wedding. The bridal bouquet was very nice and also the piece we used for our ceremony. She had the colour scheme spot on and was very flexible with last minute changes. Thanks for doing our flowers!

The bouquet for my wedding was lovely. I did expect more blues however it still was beautiful. It was such last minute that I was impressed with how well she was able fulfill my request. THANK YOU!

I hired Elena to do the flowers for my wedding in October, and I could not have been more pleased with the work that she did. The arrangements were everything I wanted them to be - beautiful, romantic, artistic, whimsical and luxurious. I love that she uses a lot of heirloom flowers and only things that grow locally, as well as a lot of unique greens, herbs and fruits. Elena was very easy to work with, she put together a great proposal after we discussed, was flexible and willing to work with me and my tight budget, and she executed flawlessly. Highly recommended!!

We hired Elena since it seemed that she could work with our tight budget, and she understood our vision. However, the back and forth process was painful as she provided a quote that was double our budget, and we were forced to keep finding ways to cut back. We still wound up paying a good $700-$800 over budget, and can't say that the result fully delivered. Yes, the flowers were beautiful, but there were other elements we had discussed - like having an ivy garland runner - that turned out to more like "hints" of ivy along the tables. We had also discussed having fabric function as a chuppah in the space. It seems neither Elena nor her team understood the point of a chuppah - which is a structure or tent that a couple stands under during the ceremony. So instead of hanging the fabric in a way that we could stand under it, it was hung like a curtain in front of a window - kinda defeating the purpose of having it. This could've been avoided if Elena had taken the time to discuss these details with us, but she stopped all communication after we paid her. This included any discussion of what my bouquet or the arrangements would actually look like. On top of that, our planner texted me the day before the wedding that Elena wanted to bring a film crew to film her setting up - a detail I wish she had asked me directly - and while I said yes, I didn't like being blindsided one day before the wedding. Finally, she was an hour late to a walk-through of our venue with the other vendors, and late the day of the wedding to set up - which meant certain elements would not have been there without the help of other people. Overall we were happy with how it turned out, but based on the lack of communication toward the end and not fully delivering what we paid for, we can't recommend her.

FAQs
- How did you get started doing this type of work?I have been writing a blog about flowers for many years, interviewing florists initially in Paris, then Montreal and Rome, and now NYC. I continue to do so, but have also re-trained to and now my own floral business.
- What types of customers have you worked with?Small to medium size events constitute the majority of our work. We also deliver bouquets and arrangements for special occasions, and do regular subscriptions ofr both homes and officies.
- What questions should customers think through before talking to professionals about their project?Seasonality is so important - wanting peonies in February only leads to very travelled blooms - and as with food. Constance Spry so rightfully said way back in the 50's "I am sure there are adequate though not good reasons for the fact that if one eats fish at the seaside, more often than not it has had a look at London before being served up in its home town - misguided travel which may have broadened its mind, but not improved the quality as food". The same can be said for New York blooms :)
