My name is Ms Tammy and I'm the founder of The Music Box NY, a small music school based on the Upper West Side of Manhattan. We are a small school with a big difference. Our goal is to make learning music and language a fun and enjoyable process. We understand the power of music in a person's life, and wish give the opportunity of learning to as many students as possible, regardless of age. We recognize that each student is different, so our instructors take time and effort to customize our private lessons based on each students' needs and goals. We teach the following types of private lessons: - Piano Lessons - Ukulele Lessons - Singing Lessons - Guitar Lessons - Harp Lessons - Bass Lessons - Music Theory Lessons - Music Composition or Songwriting Lessons We are able to teach in Mandarin, French, Japanese and Korean upon request. Tammy is the best! She is fun, personable and really knows her stuff. She's great with our 4-year-old girls - very patient and encouraging - and uses colorful workbooks and stickers to keep them interested. She even knows the entire repertoire of Frozen! On top of being a great teacher, Tammy is great at communicating with us. She responds to e-mails and texts almost immediately, and has been really helpful in advising what types of instruments we should get. All in all, Tammy is a wonderful teacher - highly recommend!

Tammy is an amazing teacher! Her online lessons are innovative and there is a playback of prior lessons if I need to go back to refresh my memory. She tailors the lessons based on your individual learning abilities/prior experiences. For me, I found the lesson pace to be ideal for my level — a bit of challenge and yet still manageable and a lot of fun. Really do look forward to my next lesson! Thanks Tammy!

I'm a young male adult professional drummer just starting to learn piano, and I felt completely at ease during my first lesson with Tammy. She takes the time and effort to understand my goals and is helping work towards them! For example when I request to learn a particular song, she goes back, learns the piece and comes back next week to teach me that very piece in a simplified way! She also explains the reason behind learning more technical skills like scales an arpeggios, and how that falls into my goals. Her explanations are clear, and she finds different ways of teaching or explaining things I don't get!! She's very approachable, friendly, and responds very quickly to texts and phone calls!!! I highly recommend her!!

I knew I had chosen the best piano teacher for my daughter when she said, "I don't want to leave!! I want to come back for another lesson tomorrow!!". Tammy Ying is a gem. Not only is she an incredibly talented musician, it's also apparent that she is great with young children. My 6 year old daughter left her first lesson excited and anxious to practice. After only the third lesson, she was able to play a song with both hands, which makes her feel very accomplished! Tammy uses age appropriate piano books and takes the time to jump to specific song lessons to fit my daughter's skill level. Tammy is very easy to communicate with via text for a quick response which is invaluable for parents on the go the timing of little ones to drop off/pick up... in my case a 6 year old and a 3 year old...(future student perhaps??). You will get everything you've hoped for in a piano teacher with Tammy!

All classes are billed on a monthly basis In-studio/Online 30min: $45/class 45min: $65/class 60min: $85/class In-home 30min: $55/class 45min: $75/class 60min: $100/class Rates may vary depending on location of students. Sibling discounts are available. Packages of 5, 10 and 20 are given 10% discounts
What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
We give one free 30min trial lesson per student in-studio!
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
All teachers all college graduates (or pursuing their bachelors) from accredited/well known Music Colleges
