Introduction: Hello math students! I'm a former test-prep teacher who now tutors for the math portions of the standardized school admissions tests, and K-12 or intro college math, statistics and economics courses. I'll work with you to make sure math clicks with you, and keep helping you with it until it does. In my experience people who've had trouble with math often have had teachers who weren't good at explaining how to do math, or went too fast; we'll go through it step-by-step to make sure you understand each step and why you're doing it, to go from the info you're given through to the answer you're looking for. I have a BA from Tufts in economics, attended Stuyvesant high school, and got an 800 on the SAT and perfect scores on the GRE math section and GMAT diagnostic exams I've taken. I've taught test-prep classes for the GRE, GMAT and SAT at Baruch College, and tutored many students in junior high through college level math and economics courses, and to prepare for the math portion of standardized tests. Ben has been my go-to math tutor for two years now. He is simply the best! I have worked with Ben on GMAT help (algebra, geometry, word problems, ect.) and Graduate-level school work (mainly statistics). Ben makes himself available all days of the week for tutor sessions. He is willing to meet in person or Skype with you. I do several sessions with Ben via Skype now because we live on separate sides of the coast. The reason I have continued to keep Ben as my tutor even after I relocated from NYC is because of how great of a math tutor he is and how well we get along. He has a very simple and relaxed way of breaking down problems and approaching them differently if you are struggling to understand the information. He can also help with a wide variety of mathematical subjects. My overall math grades and test scores have significantly improved thanks to Ben! He truly is a 5 star math tutor! Michelle

Ben was an excellent math tutor- attentive, supportive and patient. I worked with Ben to help get myself ready for the GMAT Quant section and I eventually scored a 710 on the test. During every tutoring session he was always able to clearly explain the concepts behind the (very!) complex problems and suggest the best way to tackle the problem (ie. applying a formula, picking numbers, plugging in answers, etc). The most valuable help he provided was teaching me how to "think like a GMAT test maker." He explained that the GMAT test has many logical "traps" where the language in the question tries to complicate or obfuscate the information. He was also great at helping me to understand the abstract reasoning needed for more theoretical Quant problems. Ben gave me the skills to identify and defuse these tricky Quant questions, a skill to which I would attribute my success. He was always able to explain the problems that had me stumped and gave me the confidence to fully conquer the GMAT.

Ben is smart, kind, and a great teacher. Math comes naturally to him; he truly enjoys the subject and wants others to like it as well. What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?
If you need a large number of lessons to prepare for your test or do well in your course I can lower my base rates to make it affordable for you to study the amount you need—when I work with a student I want to make sure you achieve your goals in the class or test you are taking and will try to make sure you can have enough lessons to do so!
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have a BA in economics from Tufts University and have tutored math and test prep for the past ten years (prior to which I taught test prep classes at Baruch college for three years), so I’m very familiar with the math subject or standardized test you’re working on!
What types of customers have you worked with?
I’ve worked with students from elementary through college level math, and tutor all math subjects from arithmetic through (pre)calculus and statistics; I also have tutored many students for standardized tests including the SAT, ACT, ISEE/SSAT, GRE and GMAT and have extensive knowledge of the tests and what students need to know to do well on them.
