Introduction: I'm glad you're thinking about taking piano lessons. You've come to the right place; at Harlem Piano Lessons on 153 St and on Skype, the first lesson is always free! Hi, name is Floris Boere and I am a Steinway endorsed teacher. I write songs, play in two bands in the city and compose minimalist piano music as well as contemporary jazz. Education: - Masters of Music in Jazz Piano (NYU) - Bachelor of Music in Jazz & Pop (Utrecht Conservatory) - Studied extensively with piano masters Jean-Michel Pilc and Bert van den Brink Experience: - Adjunct Faculty professor (NYU) - Music Specialist (Marte Valle High School) - 11 years private piano teacher. I play and teach every style except classical. I accept any student, whether they are a total beginner or at college level musically. My specialty is learning by ear and improvisation and I recommend making it a focus in our lessons, because it's fun! I am very flexible in scheduling and do not require a weekly or bi-weekly commitment, but I do recommend a regular schedule as it increases your progress substantially. I have been taking piano classes with Mr. Boere for around six months. The communication was easy since the first lesson. He has a relaxing while demanding teaching style: One has the opportunity to practice the lesson while he goes over what is right and wrong, including finger position and even sitting position but he also makes ahre that one gets the opportunity to improvise even after the initial lessons. I am a beginner and as such, there have been times when I have thought about quitting because the challenges are big; however, I have found that with Mr. Boere's classes, while the challenge still exist, he finds a way to build on one's strengths and work from there. I recommend Mr. Boere to anyone willing to learn piano.

Before I started I was a bit sceptical about Skypr lessons, but after my first lesson with Floris I was convinced. I'v been taking lessons with Floris for two years now. We usually meet once a week, but when I am not available he's really flexible about moving our lesson to another time or skipping a week without charge. I have learned so much from my lessons. I started as a total beginner and now I can comfortably read music and play chords. The thing I love most about Floris's lessons is that he really shows me how to learn on my own. For example, I wanted to learn a particular Adele song, and in stead of looking up the sheet music for it, he taught me how to learn it completely by ear. And now I have the tools to learn many more songs by ear!

$30 per 30-minute lesson (recommended for most) $45 per 45-minute lesson $60 per 60-minute lesson Most of my students take advantage of the 10-lesson pass I offer, which comes with a discount of 10%.
What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
In our first lesson we discuss if you have any specific goals (genre/songs/songwriting) and what they might be. Then we make a lesson plan on how to exactly reach (beyond) those goals and get to work. If you don't have any goals or don't know yet, no worries, we'll just learn all the basics and cycles through a bunch of stuff until you find something you'd like to sink your teeth into further.
What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?
Choose a teacher that explains things in a manner that you understand and has never-ending patience with you.
