Introduction: My work is not solely about dog training, or behavioral rehabilitation. My clients are typically people who need support with their animal companions, and benefit from assistance with how to integrate their pets more fully into their lives and communities. Whether it's finding the right pet or supporting pet-friendly, multifamily housing, it's about being mindful of human and animal needs within the community, as a whole. Often, pet parents are frustrated, embarrassed, and simply want to be able to enjoy walking their dogs without the drama of dog to dog aggression, anxiety, or concern about being injured because their dog is lunging at people, dogs or may jump on passersby. I enjoy the company of people and their pets. I am fortunate to be able to bring people and pets together. In animal welfare, we speak often of saving the lives of homeless animals, but it is immensely satisfying to see the bond that develops between pets and people. The human-animal bond saves lives, everyday.

Dennis was recommended to me by the Border Terrier Club of America -- their rescue operation. In a nutshell, he's brilliant. I have a Border Terrier pup who is the high end of high energy. I thought I knew Borders as I've had two, but they came to me as adults. The puppy experience and all it entails was new to me. I didn't have clue what to do. After a weekend of kamikaze attacks from this tiny creature with razor-sharp teeth, I called him. He's now advising me every step of the way. He's incredibly astute and understanding of the pup, Agnes, and, importantly, of me. I can't praise him enough. He's always available to help me and calm me down either in person or on the phone or via text messages, and he gives careful and clear instructions. I watch him closely and try to do as he does and don't always succeed, but I am learning. It's a fascinating process. I live in an apartment building in the middle of Manhattan, and we are currently training Agnes to use the street and not pads next to her crate. The street is always busy and noisy and would spook anyone, much less a pup. We are succeeding! The feeling of accomplishment is huge. He has also been helping me with Agnes's biting. She loves to feast on my arms and ankles. She is a serious biter. The usual methods don't work with her; they just make her attack with renewed vigor. Some pups have this inclination, I've discovered. Chomp, chomp! I used to be a patchwork of bandaids. Not any longer. Dennis has empathy, and he also has that extraordinary quality of stillness that the best trainers have. I would use any of his services in an instant, and I am recommending him to all my friends and acquaintances. Bravo, Dennis! I am so very grateful to have you in my life.

I first met Dennis in 1999 to help me resolve issues with my Rottweiler. Since then I have hired him several more times both for my own dogs and the rescues I work with. I have also recommended various people to him all with excellent results. If you want knowledgeable, attainable and cruelty free solutions either to resolve issues or just help you bond with your dog and have a better companion animal experience, then Dennis Owens is your guy!

Dennis understands dogs as well as their owners. He explained to me very clearly why my dog is afraid of people and other dogs from my dogs perspective and what I can do to help my dog be more confident. My dog is behaving better, because I am taking control of what is let into my dogs world and he is learning to feel safe through my actions. From the first day i met dennis he has made the difference in mine and my dogs life. I look forward to continuing my classes and encourage all who have dogs and feel frustated like i was to see Dennis Owens the dog trainer at 2nd ave & 110st in dr. Demerelles office at NY doggie daycare.

My dog has aggression problem toward others, shelter evaluation: nervous, growling, showing teeth, lundged while in cage.... Today Dennis meet my dog for the first time. Within 20 mins he already took over the leash from me, no treats no force ...... at the end of the secession my dog walk along next to him. I can't believe what I see. He take control the whole situation without saying a WORD to my dog. Simply Amazing.
